Can any Pats fans confirm the Rutherford to Pats rumour?

Having completed the signing of winger Mark Rutherford yesterday, St Patrick’s Athletic have slipped down the pecking order in the hunt for Drogheda United’s Cup-wining skipper Declan O’Brien.
...
Meanwhile, Rutherford’s arrival at Richmond Park means he will have played for all four of Dublin’s top clubs.

“I have signed Mark for a year with the option of a second year,” confirmed St Pat’s boss John McDonnell.

Birmingham born Rutherford, 33, has won titles with Shelbourne and Bohemians and is one of six players to leave relegated Shamrock Rovers this week.

Dublin City FC would like to announce the signing of FAI Cup Winner Mark Rooney from Drogheda United.

The 22 year old has been a full time professional with Drogheda for the last two seasons, where he joined from a season long spell at UCD.

Mark also gained international experience for the eircom League Under-21 selection in Wales in 2003

Dublin City would like to thank Paul Doolin and all at Drogheda United for their co-operation in this signing.

What about the post on your website, Maynard? Is that list of released players likely to be confirmed and correct?

They're not confirmed yet, but I imagine if Vaughan, Scully, Lynch ( ), Williamson, A Kelly, B Kelly, Kennedy and Mulcahy aren't resigned by Monday then that's them gone. I heard that Brendan Kennedy is going back to Kildare (was offered a deal by us though apparently) other than that the only two that warrant any further speculation are Aidan Lynch (I think it's maddness if we don't keep him) and Ray Scully (who is being romanced by the vultures at Monaghan.

DROGHEDA UNITED manager Paul Doolin began building towards continued success next season by resigning Declan 'Fabio' O'Brien and cup hero Gavin Whelan and also drafting Glen Fitzpatrick into his squad.

Fitzpatrick had endured a frustrating year at Shelbourne and will look to rebuild his career with a move away from Tolka Park.

Doolin will now attempt to sort out terms with Stephen Bradley who is also out of contract. The midfielder was linked with a move to Fulham last week, but his current manager insisted no contact had been made.

Drogheda United agree new two-year deals with O'Brien and Whelan
12/12/2005 - 17:59:13

FAI Cup winners Drogheda United have sign new two-year deal with skipper Declan O'Brien and Gavin Whelan, both of whom scored in the final at Lansdowne Road.

Paul Doolin has also signed Glenn Fitzpatrick from Shelbourne and James Keddy has agreed terms to move from Bohs following the release of the Dutch winger Jermaine Sandvliet .

All those stars will be watching the draw for the Setanta Cup when it's made later tonight.

The FAI Cup holders join Champions Cork City and League Cup winners Derry and Shelbourne, while the northern quartet are League Champions Glentoran, CIS Cup winners Linfield, IFA Cup winners Portadown and Dungannon Swifts.

A step down from Sandvliet imo, why with all of Drogheda money does Doolin insist on signing such average players? Lynch was the same.

Lynch was one of our best players this season - very solid and turned out to be a great signing.

Jermaine is better than keddy on the left side of midfield imo but keddy (despite the criticism bohs fans give him) is a better squad player ie can play in more positions than jermaine. Jermiane can play left mid and thats it. I've always thought keddy played well when I've seen him (mostly as a neutral btw)

A toss up between him and jermaine on the left side of midfield, jermiane would win every time. Thought he did more than enough to earn another contract tbh.

So did I, I'm baffled as to why he wasn't kept on. But my point is, Drogheda have money and ultimately title winning aspirations, no? I don't think players like Keddy are what a club with ambition should be looking at.

Had my doubts when I first heard it (as i did with lynch and look how he turned out for us!!). A bit of experience will do us the world of good as we've a young squad and as I said ye know what ye get from him and might've only been bought as a utility player.

Would be disappointed if he bought as a straight swap for jermaine - dont think he was tbh

Everyone went on about Hawkins,Crowe and Ryan leaving last year
but IMO Webb and particularly Lynch were as big if not bigger a loss
Damo had a cracking season for us the one before last and was super for Droggs this year, Webb is consistantly solid

I rate Webb, but Lynch was an absolute disaster area for Bohs every time I saw him anyway. Worst example being the time he literally just decided to hand Shels a penalty for no reason in Dalymount Park under no pressure at all (Then had the cheek to just claim a goal that wasn't even close to his later on to try and make up for it :D ).

I thought he was better when in central mid field but at right back he was consistently awful.

pete
13/12/2005, 10:34 AM
Anytime i saw Lynch at Bohs he looked good going forward but a terrible defender. Doolin is wasting good money on fullbacks as its the easiest position on the pitch & they rarely win you games.

Keddy is poor signing for team that spent huge money last season for 4th place.

Drogs might be dangerous next season with their transfer funds but not as long as Doolin making the purchases.
