what club are u associated with "seee it" or u do u just make comments about everyone else maybe a bit harsh to quinny
have you to be with a club to have an opinion? his a player that Wembley carry and if you want promotion you cant afford to do that with so many players............

well your entitled to your opinion so pal no bother just thought 3a maybe a bit harsh. you must be a decent soccer player so u should be on the premier site or the eircom league instead of wasting your time with the likes of wembley in 1a (we were in a shout for promotion on last day of season last 3 years and have had the same team so have been close enough so dont think were carrying players as much as u think)

Don't know what football ye are watching but the standard in 1A is attrocious,
some of the teams in 3A not to mind lower would beat some of the one in 1A and i'm just talking about Abbey and Croom, so get off your high horses.

Thats true but some of the teams on top of 1A could take on some of the very poor teams in premier.

You are indeed correct,
however all that says is that there are five or maybe six teams in Limerick capable of doing anything in the premier the rest, unfortunately, just make up the numbers.

ya totally agree with standard of limerick soccer being poor and in 1a never said it was of any good standard, but the top few teams in 1a aint that bad, they would be similar to bottom 4 or 5 in premier look at ul beaten on pens in fai quarter final and are 3rd from bottom in premier but in fairness agree again that only a few clubs can do anything major in fai.

How can ye be saying that when aisling were only a 1a team last year but yet they got to the last 8 in the fai.... I know there league record isn't the best but i don't think there is much difference between them for example and one of the top teams....If the top teams didn't rob or poach players from the TEAMS MAKING UP NUMBERS(as u put it) then maybe there would be a lot more competition!!!!

Tere seems to b a nice difference between ul and top teams. Are they not third or fourth from bottom in premier and they needed to get in a nice few players into tere squad from last season to acheive even that. including 2 experienced players from wembly and one from the boro. Tere fai cup run was fantastic and they need to b congratulated but doing well in tere own league is the most important surely

Ask the Boro (who drew with Pike 0-0 in the Lawson) about the standard in Div 1A and Corbally in particular.

I have to agree with 3 Heroes on this one. The standard in 1A this year is very poor. Ok Corbally beat Boro thats fair enough. But from past years the standard has really dropped. This year there are maybe 2 or 3 teams that could hold their own in the premier. But in the past few seaseons there would have been more. I still think ye (Star) will have to strengthen a lot to stay up next year. Cant see staying up with the team ye have at the moment.

Just reading your post and your comment on UL. They players you were talking about.
2 from Wembley - Both ex Vereker players.. hardly from Wembley.
1 from Boro. - Originally from UL.
By the way I am not UL/ Aishling. I cant understand your point. The likes of UL/Aishling aspire to playing in the premier. If you do not apspire you never achieve. The premier is hard to make you mark in and it cant be done in a season or two it takes time. UL/Aishling are an excellent Schooboy club along with the like of Corbally etc etc.
Another point with regard to the modern player. Loyalty to a club is a thing of the past. Players jump from club to club without a thought and this is what makes it even harder to make your mark as a club in the premier. So the likes of UL/Aishling and Granville etc etc what should they do they do just give up and not bother with trying to make into the premier....
Just making a point. Would have thought as a Wembley man you would understand this point as its a club who in the past few years was badly let down by its own players who jumped ship when they were struggling. Considering the work that Jimmy Collins and others have done to put them back up where they should be. I hope they do manage to do it because they are also an excellent schoolboy club.
Final point with regard to Premier Clubs and schoolboy Clubs.... There are a few clubs in the division who do not have any underage sides.... so are doing nothing to promote the game....
Trying to make a point and to ensure they debate is balanced.

Good points (twinkle toes) and ill take that into consideration next time i post. its good to c someone with a properly taught out opinion. But just one question, how long do u have to b involved wit a club before u are considered a club member, cause jason and anthony were with wembly just as long as they were wit vereker, if not longer.

Fair point also. Not sure how long you have to play with a club to be considered a clubman...
Actually played against both of the lads for both clubs.

The discussion goes around and around....good players will leave the "lesser" clubs to go to clubs that may offer them a chance to win something, weakening the teams and divisions just below the "big" clubs, in turn meaning that the standard is perceived as being worse than past years. All the more reason why clubs like ULAA should be applauded for getting to premier and giving such a good performance in their first season....hopefully other clubs will follow....we shouldn't be putting down the up and coming clubs but figuring out ways, be it coaching, facilities, etc, to make them compete with the big boys, it will make for a more competitive league with a higher standard of football....

Hi Bishop. Agree with all you have said. The deabte is good and thats why foot is should a good place to do it.
Clubs like UL have always been good at facilities and coaching etc. Clubs have to try to raise the bar in all these areas....
As for players leaving so called smaller clubs. Why do we play football ? to win or because we love the game?
Let the debate continue

well if thats the case u wont find too many real clubmen playing the game at the moment. One springs to mind is eddie o'donovan, i know he played a season away from pike but he's the only one i can think of at moment, thats if he is still playing.

I think balla A have a few that fall into that category. Most the team is made up of players that came up through their schoolboys. they have been with balla most of their lives.

Great point, teams like carew and balla would b exception to rule. Not many players go to those clubs and stay for a long time. Those teams are made up of players who indeed came up true the ranks and stayed. clannish teams(not meant in a bad way)

TT, I think there is a mix of player types, the lads who are good and want to keep improving and so keep changing club, the lads who play because they love the game and the lads who play because it gets them out with their mates and they stay with a particular club....or get away from the missus !

True in what you say. All clubs have a few that came through the ranks and stay but that is not often the case today.
You can look around every year at players who move from club to club with out a thought.
I think I may have sidetracked a lot of people today. After all its Limerick Division 1A Thread.
I bet all the clubs would love to be up the premier trying to make an impression but its easier said then done to get out of the Division.
Best of luck to those who are close.....

D.Fitz, Played early football with pike schoolboy,Joined boro at 14yrs old all his family played for boro
B.Culhane 1st year with boro
A.sheehan, HAS SPENT THE LAST 28 YEARS PLAYING WITH BORO
B.Conway, Started playing football at 18yrs old with boro, has spent the last 10 years playing with boro
A.carrol and N.Carrol Corbally men 1st year with club

Div 1A Fixtures
Tues 28/03/06
Star Rvs v Abbey Rvs
Balla v Corbally
Dines v Wembley
Coonagh v Caherdavin
Lads
One result from the weekend was Star 8-0 Croom, ref blew this game up 10mins into the second half.
In all fairness as the leader stated today, that even though they are a very poor outfit Croom must be congratulated for turning up for their league fixtures when it would be just as easy to give walk overs.

You cant throw a team out of the league just because they are a poor team. Although bringing on 14 year olds is a bit dangerous. A young player like that could easily get injured at junior level.

If anyone tackles the lad then, all you'll here is "For f**k sake, he's only a youngfella". One thing that always made me laugh about junior clubs brining on young lads.

i didnt explain myself properly so, i didnt want them out of league cause they were bad, if u play bad all year u will b relegated, but fielding 8 or 9 players consistinly and other players running the risk of hurting young players(14) or hurting themselves for a match u know u are going to win even before u kick a ball, isnt good enough

its a disgrace.i know they lost players to bruff and st.pats oh ya and prison but not being able to get a team together all season is a joke.total lack of interest and nothing else theres always guys who'll play just get out and find them.Geraldines are the lucky 1s this season cos they would of went down only for Abbey and Croom been so bad......whose going for promotion from 1B?
