Alan Lee has scored more than Connolly in the Campeonato this season but where's all the trumpet blowers for him.

We have Keane, Doyle, Lee and two promising young lads, Long and Stokes. I think that's enough for now. If two pull out, by all means, call him up. Hope he won't turn down his country again.

It's just down to his recent run of form. It was a while before he started scoring but now he has 11 goals in 18 games (16 starts).

Lee has been a regular in the squad lately, Connolly hasn't.

Well according to football manager 07 he can score 31 premiership goals in a season so......:)

One word proves it - Excelsior !

Heh, that's because the threw his shirt at Beenhakker in the Feyenoord dressing room, so Beenhakker farmed him out to Excelsior, where Connolly scored a ridiculous amount of goals to become an Excelsior legend. :)

He came back to Feyenoord under Van Marwijk and was very good (including a match where he got two goals and an assist against Ajax in the Arena), but didn't accept their new contract. He then was going to AZ Alkmaar (good decision) but decided at the last minute to go to Wimbledon (foolish decision). If he had stayed at Feyenoord he could have won the UEFA Cup, but Wimbledon were offering more money.

He is scoring goals, that's enough for me.He obviously impresses Roy Keane and that's good enough for me too.He should be in the squad for sure.

Connolly had the assist on the 1st goal, should have had another 1 a minute later to Hysen, some ****ty defense by Sunderland is why they are down (and a terrible keeping mistake)
Ledbitter, Hysen, and Wallace have all been absolutely horrible for Sunderland, Connolly, John, and Murphy have had no service since Dwight Yorke left...they're really missing Carlos Edwards
Daryl Murphy scored, he looked very good since he came on, Connolly never really had much of a chance

ball just didnt fall for connolly tonight thought leadbitter was very good first half and hysen caused problems just final ball was poor .. Murphy put himself about well happy with a point in the end with the away the other results went.

I think Connolly deserves a place in the squad, if Keane isn't available I'd replace with Connolly. Don't see him as a starter if keane is available.

It took 10 minutes before Connolly got his first touch of the ball last night  He was pretty anonymous for most of the game and I certainly didn't see anything that would change my mind about him. In fact of the two, Murphy was more impressive, albeit only just coming on as a sub, and scored a good goal.

Haven't seen him play Stoke yet  And he certainly has managed to show for a pass in the first 10 minutes of a game.

Robbie Keane was far more effective / dangerous when playing off Quinn.

Our set pieces have certainly suffered since Quinn retired also. The set pieces against San Marino were appallingly bad.

I don't think we have anyone ready / playing effectively within that role at Club level at the minute. Would Alan Lee be classed as a target man? Daryl Murphy?

I though Morrison could have developed into a decent target man. I was wrong.

I've mentioned this before, but from what I've seen of Andy Keogh, he certainly could become a target man

looked for the ball but just did not fall for him last night .. you should not base your opinion on one game that you have seen this season. Our best player this season and this thread should not be a slag off robbie keane thread its just about saying connolly should be in the squad which he obviously should .

Saw some of the second half of Sunderland v Stoke. Did not realise Connolly was still on the pitch. Did not know 31,000 people could make so little noise - great fans me arse. The football was horrific standard with complete inability to pass the ball & retain possession.

good to see you can make your opinion of sunderlands and connollys season in one game . good man. I suppose the fact we took 8000 down to barnsley the previous week means nothing and connolly has been in terrific form this season yet stokes still gets in the squad ahead of him ..

As I've said all season Connolly will more than likely be sold by Keane either before the Premiership kicks off or early in the campaign. Some supported me but for all those who laughed I dedicate this to you. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.

Hardly a revelation, Connolly is a good Championship player but not good enough for the top level. Stevie Wonder could see that.

Btw, you're quoting gossip rather than fact so I wouldn't be gloating just yet (even though it's almost certain that he will be sold).

Far from much and the offer that Sunderland have made to Preston was firstly with Stephen Elliott as part exchange which elliott rejected and then Stern John was offered with preston rejecting this. Sunderland have now gone back to Preston with a offer without players exchanged.

You'll all see, especially you youngirish, and I'll laugh my ass off at you when he isn't sold and starts opening day.

Nugent's Goals per game in the CCC: .34
Connolly's = .36
(if you couldn't tell, Connolly's is better)

Ha ha. I never claimed Nugent was any use either. The sort of overrated and overhyped English mediocrity that I'm far too familar with. He is better than Connolly though.

I'd be amazed if Connolly wasn't sold before the transfer window ends irrespective of him playing on opening day or not. If there's any truth in Elliot being offered instead in part exchange and he rejected it then he's a very foolish boy as he won't be getting a look in for Sunderland this year and Preston would be a great move for him to resurrect his career.

I thought at the time that Connolly was foolish to leave Wigan last year. With a small squad, he would have got a run in the team and proved one way or the other whether he was good enough for that level. I dont think Keane expected to get promotion last season and thought he would get a couple of years from proven championship players like Connolly and Kavanagh. i wouldnt expect either of them to get a game next season.
