It was a good run out and result. A few younglads got a game and a few of the back up lads a run. The chap on loan from Hull at CB Taylor did well as did Pitaluga in goal. I’d run Freeman straight out if I was Kenny the chap looks like he doesn’t give a toss.

I saw some of the game. Lots of young lads in for Pats. The lad Oyenuga (sp?) looked useful and took his goal well. Pitiluga made some decent saves, but I still don’t think I’d trust him in a “real” game. Freeman will be gone sooner rather than later I think. Problem is our two other right backs are so injury prone.

Pats are at home to Maynooth in the semi final with the date TBC. That means the other semi will be Drogheda vs St Mochtas but I haven’t seen anything on who the home team is for that, or the date of it either

Derry played Crusaders at Seaview yesterday for Stephen Baxter's testimonial, won 2-0.
Couple of trialists played, and one scored. One of them was D'Mani Mellor, who is a forward at Rochdale at present.

Huge day for Kerry tomorrow - Tuta still absent after travelling home for family weddings, but other than that, should have a full squad available. Remains to be seen what kind of XI Waterford will field, but whether it's the U20s, or some of the Premier squad are added to the mix, the Kingdom will treat them with the fullest respect, much like the Treaty semi. The club are taking an official supporters bus to Turners Cross, and the final will be live on Radio Kerry.

No major surprises in the Kerry starting XI: O'Sullivan - Kos, Spain, Williams, O'Connell - McCarthy, McGrath, Gleeson, Teahan - Kelliher, Okwute.

Harps drew 1-1 in a friendly with Cliftonville in Finn Park today. Mostly a chance to give players returning from injury, and a load of the under-20s game time.

Galway Utd lost one nil to Linfield yesterday in Windsor Park. A testimonial for some lad, only about 250 bothered turning up for it. A mixture of trialists, squad players and players returning from injury.

Pats played 2 behind closed doors friendlies in Richmond over the weekend, beating Ballymena United 1-0 on Saturday with Brandon Kavanagh scoring and then beat Cliftonville 3-1 on Sunday with Mason Melia scoring a hattrick. Supposedly a couple of Trialists played in both games
About 1700 at TC for the home friendly Cork City v Stoke City last night.

UCD 2-2 Salford on Sunday as well. 7 triallists in the Salford squad. No sign of any of the Salford owners sadly...

And Sligo started with only 1 regular starter too, it’s mainly their u20s team playing!
3-3 now through 85th and 86th minute goals for Everton

Bit of a mad one alright. Coleman started for Everton - is that the first time he's been back to Sligo since signing for Everton?

He was back for a previous Everton friendly maybe around 2010 season.

Young lad from my home town played and scored for Sligo. Funny one as he hadn't played much football in years before Sligo signed him. All GAA. Some good scouting tbf and great to see him do well

Successful day all round Id say for the Everton game. A nice wee earner. Very entertaining game, fiesty for a friendly too. No first team regulars played which I was fine with, but the underage players were brilliant and more than held their own. Weather stayed pretty good.

The LSC semi-finals are yet to be played. Stephen Kenny might yet claim some silverware! What the general opinion on the LSC? Is it well run or amateur hour?
I think the five Munster clubs are better off arranging a Munster League Cup than enter the MSC amateur hour.

Well most clubs are treating the LSC as an u20 tournament. So in that way it's valuable. Can't say whether it's well run or not

Think about 250
Was good business in retrospect considering Coleman's loyalty to Everton and no activation of the potential windfall of a sell on. There may have been appearances and internation caps clauses but a sell on would bound to be the biggest cost to Everton and for all the big money moves that were touted they enver hapened of course. There were a multi million £ move to Old Trafford and The Emirates at one time that would have netted 7 figures at 10% for Sligo which would have been a sickener and selling the clauses vilified ala Cork City years back to plug short term finaces

Ironically both the Alan Browne and Sean Maguire clauses that Cork sold back to Preston for a quick cash injection turned out to be a great decision as both left Preston for free!

I like that they're playing a team from a Silk Road city destroyed and abandoned centuries ago. But then I've a bit of fascination with the Silk Road route and some of the great names in and around it - Kyzylkum, Samarkand, Khiva.
I acknowledge I may be slightly in a minority in that regard...!

Merv was razed to the ground more than once - the Mongols and the Iranians both at it. It's a barren desert wasteland at this stage, twinned with Baghdad, Aleppo and Karbala.
So yeah, as desolation goes, it does sound it's still behind Mervue alright...
Though wiki has a quote (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Merv_(1221)) "It was a memorable day for shrieking and weeping and wailing. Then Genghis Khan ordered that the dead should be counted and there were around 700,000 corpses", and that sounds one level of nastiness up from Cromwell in fairness.

Nope. Uzbekistan is on the list though. Tashkent (the metro stations are amazing), Samarkand, Bukhara, Khiva, maybe Moynaq where the boats are rusting miles away from the Aral Sea. In fact, most of the Stans look amazing, possibly excepting Tajikistan, which I think has a relatively high incidence of Islamic fundamentalism.

For a brief moment Id visions of Stu on the dark web trading ....rare UCD AFC programmes. Not quite as rustic or remote as places metioned above but I spent 4 weeks in Azerbaijan teaching airline pilots English back in 2000 which looking back is pretty mad in itself. Wasnt as sparkling and new then as it would be now with all that oil money. But did get to see it kind of unspoilt by tourism especiallly on the coast, but cant say the same for the Soviet influence of unspoilt - only worth a wrecking ball. We were treated ridiculously well, paid a small fortune to young a graduate and never experienced humidity like it. I didnt appreciate it then tbh, would love to do it again and make better use of the time in the region.

I think alot of clubs do these type games. Dundalk play Warrenpoint or Newry in behind closed doors games a good few times at start and end of season (obvs due to them being off mid summer)

We do them too, but often you'd get a bit more news out of them. Presume there were some trialists that wanted to keep things quiet too.

They’ve had loads of ex LOI players though. Cathal O’Connor was with them recently. Darren Meegan too. Colin Hawkins has been involved in running the club for a long time.
