Drogs won 2-1 tonight V Dundalk. Late peno.

Poor game in Oriel. Dundalk dominated the ball first half without creating that much, Horgan with a miss of the season contender already aside.

Young Kenny gave them more threat second half than Elliott did, you'd have to wonder what the thought process was in keeping Elliott and letting the likes of Martin move on. Kenny took his goal well.

Then Dundalk fell into their old habits of *****ing around at the back, new keeper Munroe who looked shaky all night was caught with the ball at his feet for the equaliser.

Drogheda finished the game the stronger and got a soft penalty at the end which the keeper did save but beaten by rebound.

Drogheda look like they'll be even more direct this season with Pierrot up top, wasn't overly impressed with them. They'll miss Keeley massively.

Dundalk look like a team that will take a long time to gel. Bradley was watching on, he will have went home a happy man. Nothing to worry about in a few weeks time.

Good run out with some nice passages of play. It’s early days for Turner but he had a mare on his debut.

2-2 v St Mochtas. Went went two up but new lad Petifter gave away a peno and got a straight red. It was Cian Kavanagh with both our goals.

We were almost in line at the challenge, def no pen for me, that said not sure Dundalk did enough to win the game, but I never read much into any pre season for any club. All about building your fitness and working on shape.

Still, would appear a bit o work required for the big ko, playing UCD this week behind closed doors.

Big surprise in Tralee this afternoon is that Ryan Kelliher isn't in the match-day squad (presumably injured), but rather than Amechi, it's the new signing Udeze who partners Okwute up front.

Kerry's first home win over LoI opposition, as they prevail 1-0, Daniel Okwute missed a penalty early in the second half, but made up for it by setting up Udeze for what ultimately proved the winner - I'll go out on a limb and suggest we should pick up more than one victory in the League this season!

Maynooth beat what looks like a near full strength Longford tonight. Really not sure about the 1st Div this year at all. In pre season Mochtas, Usher, Maynooth from LSL have all had very strong results against 1st Div teams. I'm actually way more hopeful for the students than zi was a few months back, look like 1st Division has no depth whatsoever. Bray went strong today against Shels u20s and really struggled to break them down at all after two excellent individual goals early in the game. Yep, feeling like the Students might unexpectedly challenge this season

It has been a productive preseason. Kerry should have beaten Cobh on the Friday of the August Bank Holiday weekend, squandered a 2 goal lead. Winning is a good habit to get into. Hopefully positive signs that Kerry will convert performances into results this season. I'll go out on a limb and will suggest that Kerry should get at least 36 points this season, an average of a point per game.

No where near a full strength Longford town side but still should be doing better than that. A bit worried about what I've seen so far in pre season. Really need to start strong this season or it could turn into another slog

Munster Senior Cup Semi-Final Draw:

Kerry FC v Treaty United
Waterford FC v Rockmount FC

Fixtures to be played w/e Mar 18th - seems Treaty are away to Longford on the Saturday, so even with the Patrick's Day Bank Holiday in lieu on the Monday, would be a tight turnaround!

A final would be a great achievement/occasion for Kerry should they make it.

Seems to me like the provincial senior cups are the way forward hopefully there's something set up in Connaught/Ulster by next year.

Given that the non-LOI clubs are actually mid-season, it means that they can actually build their season around it and give it a proper go. Not like the nonsense we're server up every summer in the initial round(s) of the FAI Cup.

It would be massive for Kerry to win this, or even have a home final.

Winning a senior trophy in their second season would be a great achievement

I'd have thought the final would always have to be in Turners Cross, when that's the Munster FA HQ? If Rockmount are eliminated, however, would make sense for the eventual finalists to have a draw for home venue alright.

Do clubs split the gate receipts for this? 8,500 sellout = circa €120,000

Both ourselves and Treaty are evidently up for the cup, as the semi has been brought forward a fortnight to March 4th, and in a strange quirk, the neighbours also visit Mounthawk Park in the league on the previous Friday!

Thought that would be the preference alright. Both have the same recovery time from the previous Friday. Treaty are chasing their first silverware as well. Cork and Cobh have been the only winners of the MSC in recent years.

Attendances are listed here, though some appear to be unofficial. 5,462 for Rovers/Pats in 2022 was the record before tonight. 2018 is down as 3,000 and was in Oriel so couldn’t have been 6k

Kevin Williams did fine when he filled in last year, but by all accounts Spain showed leadership qualities pretty much from the first training session, so as long as the team displays are decent, and the current balance of locals to new signings still applies, I can't see it being an issue.

Let me guess - 80% to the FAI and 10% each to the clubs.

Haven't a clue but it looks like they missed the second penalty as the player who took it was never mentioned. Not a great first impression haha.

Nice link TYC, I was way off then re one of the finals held in Turners X, obv got mixed up with one of the league meetings with Dundalk that (2018) season with the 7k.

The 2018 PC final in Oriel Park was played during the day time, blue sky for first half and a blizzard of snow for all of the second. Johnny Ward famously changed his LOI title prediction from Dundalk to Cork City after their 4-2 win that day. Dundalk would go on to win it by 10 points.
