51 | Goal for Galway from Trialist 3.
Kerry FC 0-2 Galway United
64 | Goal for Galway. Ed McCarthy’s strike took a big deflection.
Kerry FC 0-3 Galway United
Full Time - Another 90 minutes in the legs on a bitter cold evening in Killarney
Best of luck to Galway United for the season ahead!
Daire McCarthy for Sean McGrath was the only change from Friday's win over Avondale. Tuta came on for his debut in the second half.

Dundalk played some really nice stuff first half, Brady made a number of top class saves.
Second half a bit of a non event given number of changes but Longford struck early and dug deep to hold on, sub keeper Harrington with an incredible save from a Benson FK. Great run out for Longford and playing under a bit of pressure can only be good for them.
Oriel in an awful state tonight. Place was filthy dirty, no concessions on sale and bar closed. Owner has a lot to do besides his broken seat which was funny. He took it well..

Both him and McCarthy have been very impressive even in just those two games so far, so Healy in particular looks like being one of the first names on the team sheet every week for the new season.

I was very impressed with him in the few sub appearances he made last season. A big future ahead of him

Any idea on who our trialists were last night?

Kerry FC 0-3 Galway United
I thought we (Kerry FC), did very well and made the game very competitive for Galway. Two excellent finishes and a big deflection from Galway was probably justified, as they were probably 3-4 goals superior on the night. The big thing for me was that Defensively, Kerry seemed to have plug big holes that gave up so many late goals last year when under any type of pressure from opponents. Last year it was men vs boys, but I am optimistic if we can pick up some more artillery in the attacking half, then Kerry will be more than capable of getting a half dozen wins at least this year!
Any Galway fans at the game who may have a different view?

Sounds very 2023 season, can play nice football but not get a result, lots of chances but their keeper had one of those days or our attack had...

It will be 2 panels with development players and possible trialists. The time difference is to allow the management team to see both sets of players.

What are the two competitions? I assume the LSC is one? Surely you can't play trialists in competitive fixtures

Pats play Cork tomorrow at 2pm, unsure of the venue though. I’d imagine it’s one of AUL, Blanch IT or Abbotstown. Can anyone confirm?

5-4 to us against Derry today. Derry had a penalty saved as well. Ellis Chapman with a hat trick in his first appearance which he’ll never be able to live up to.

Finished 4-1 in the end. Keating, Lennon, Forrester and an OG for Pats, not sure who got the Cork goal.
That's a cracking friendly scoreline in that Sligo-Derry game.

Is he coaching now.
The Bowler
20/01/2024, 6:10 PM
Finner was very clear in his post signing interview. He's not coaching and has no aspirations to that career direction. He's in UCD as a mature student to do a masters. This is an interesting result. When the LOI teams play LSL teams in July August in FAI Cup, the LSL lads are always in the middle of two mths holidays, and the LSL teams are on the beer. But play them in January the other way round, different story. Didn't Rovers only beat Lucan 2-0 last week ? The first division is not much better if better at all than the LSL, maybe the likes of Cork are potentially better, but the rest are dross.

Yeah Finner will go into the business side of football, not coaching. He's talked about it a bit.
Wouldn't read too much into our friendly v Lucan. Sure we lost to Cobh today.

Don’t put much stock in pre season tbh. It’s nice to win of course but it’s more important to get new signings to gel and get the fitness back up to match level.

Handy 3-1 for us over Malahide, would been more only for their keeper pulling off some great saves
Coldest I've been at a game in a long time and that includes a freezing Oriel on Thursday just gone where the club hadn't even the facilities to offer a cup of tea to anyone

Agreed, results mean very little. You do always hope to see some improvements in weak areas from last year but it's so hard to tell if there is any improvement because it may not be your starting 11 come day 1 of the season, the team your playing could be considerably worse than you and a multitude of other things.

In addition, the head coach may have his own perspective on weaknesses and strengths. Sometimes I think it is easier to change the head coach to fix the weaknesses in a team.

agreed. it's about minutes in the legs. we play a mix of kids and first teamers and there's no real cohesion to the play. just a run out and a chance for a few fringe players to get noticed.
The LSC now.....that's the real deal.

Dundalk had 12 players 20 and over in their squad yesterday, there are no age limitations in the competition

Most LOI clubs will play a good few under U19s (now U20s) along with first team players which may make some LSC games appear like an underage competition

Pats playing a mixed team tonight. We have several young players but also a few first team players aswell.
Edit: The game v Usher finished 3-3. Our scorers were Forester , Cian Kavanagh & Mason Melia.

Which, donning my Kerry cap for a second, suggests Cian Barrett will at least get some few minutes off the bench this season, if he's being spared LSC duty.
