I mean, so is the other one?

But votes don't have to be reasoned to count, so in it goes!

.

Not sure what I was trying to say there Stu tbh...:)

2011, I usually like retro but the 83 is like a crap GAA jersey

Indignation! The 2011 literally is a crap GAA jersey, go find Nemo!

To be fair you're not wrong, it was a poor choice between both ;)

I really like that jersey. The colours are the same as Nemo obviously but the location of the green makes it very different I think. The Nemo one is a standard GAA hoop, which are rarely nice.

Nemo would be nicer if, like the 2011 number, it had black shorts

Right - week 2 so.

Two very retro kits first. An away kit from 78-83 on display in Lansdowne Road v the North, against an away kit from 92-93 on display in Windsor Park v the North.

78-83 is quite snazzy looking, I'll go for that.

That 92/93 Adidas shirt is one of my favourite designs. I picked up a Swedish shirt from the same era and I loved it.

92-93 for me also.

Always remember Brolin and Dahlin in the Swedish blue and yellow equivalent and of course Liverpool as well as other teams had that kit design as well.

I like the 78-83 kit but it's hard to beat the 92/93, peak nostalgia era. So 92/93 gets the vote.

Fixer82

Gotta be 92-93.
I like a lot of O'Neill's efforts but there's no contest here

On a sidenote, these retro jersey debates are the most enjoyable thing about being an ROI fan these days

78 / 83

The other one wouldn't get half the love but for the era it featured in. Its about the kit supposedly, not the games the kits were worn in ?

i like the retro kits generally, particularly the early Ireland 80s kits, but the 78 kit yellow is dreadful

This is the toughest choice for me to date. Ill go with the 78-83 as it is a classic look. You'd wear it today with a pair of jeans but the 92/93, youd wear with your boxers eating cereal on the couch on a Saturday morning.

That'd spoil the fun! :)

Historicalkits.co.uk or the Irish football kits museum are your best bets - though the former is drawings of them, not actual kits.

Well, that's an indelible image burned on my retina today. Memo to self: if SkStu ever invites me round to Saskatchewan on a Saturday morning, don't overdress. Bring cereal.;)

My vote goes the same way as it happens - 78-83 for me.

A twitter image again - so that's the issue. I might put up the link with it in future. Or the easier way to fix it would be to vote it out :p

Two more to mull over while the retro battle runs its course.. The first a never-worn away kit from 1998-00, and the second the most recent away kit, here seen in an annoying set-up where the home team wore their away kit to avoid a clash of colours.

Loved that jersey but it was never worn. Cos it was never needed unfortunately. Think we nearly always wore green in that period due to our opponents

Windsor away beats Lansdowne away 8-5 and progresses. Lansdowne away may have a chance in Friday's repechage by the sound of comments though. As yet, no kit has received fewer than 4 votes; no losing kit got more than 4 votes in the home jersey competition, so definitely a tighter contest this one.

As proof of that, it's dead level between the never worn and most recently worn away kits. Votes taken all day, as we move on to two vertical stripes worn at major finals. It's Euro 2012 v USA 94

2012 - a tragic tournament but a very nice jersey. I remember my friend bringing it to Poland, brand new, tags still on it - then gets a big blob of ketchup down the front of it about an hour into day one. :)

2012 is nice. 94 has aged abysmally. I think I liked it at 13 but not so much 5 days after I turned 40!

USA 94 away is an underrated gem.
also, wtf was James E Cornette (Jim to some of us) doing at USA 94? One can only assume he thought Aldo looked like Vince Russo. Yo, bro.

Ah yeah, should go deep into the competition, classy shirt, but will the occasion / nostalgia side of things, 94 v 2012 take it down at the first hurdle ? :)

One of these will get a second chance on Friday of course - exactly for the chance of two quality kits being drawn together in the first round. Of course, if it gets knocked out a second time later on, then it's definitely not the best kit :)

It's making a bit of a comeback, keep the faith. Nothing too nostalgic about getting our arses handed to us in Orlando anyway.

Two mistakes cost us that Holland match really though. And McGrath's goal should've counted

I was actually thinking of the Mexico game, and an exaggeration there too - but Orlando not a happy hunting ground. We did secure qualification to the last 16 in that jersey too though I guess, however unmemorable it was.

We were very much second-best on the day though. Holland really should have scored one or two of their own rather than us gifting them goals.

1994 is the nicest jersey we have ever had, home or away.
