Peep peep peeeeep!
A great start for the Euro 88 kit, but then the US kit got up a head of steam and it proved unstoppable. 11-6 the final score to the US94 kit. Have to admit to a sneaking liking for it myself as well.
No rest for the Euro 88 kit as it dusts itself down to go straight back into action for the third-fourth place play-off against the WC94 qualifying kit -

That's a really close call, but if I had to wear one tomorrow it would probably be the 88 one so that gets the vote.

Euro 88 for me too. The vertical stripes are my only gripe with the other one. They're difficult to see which is a plus but they are there which is not!

****ing into the wind a bit here but I'll go for the McLoughlin 1993 kit. Yes it was a generic design that was used by a number of clubs and national teams, but I always liked it in white and green, thought it worked really well.

Despite the USA qualifying campaign being my favourite campaign and the most memorable, I will have to plump for the perfection that is Euro88.
That being said, I'm gonna go look at Alan's goal again.

No contest there really - 13-4 in favour of the Euro 88 kit. Would have been interesting to see how it fared against the Italia 90 kit actually as they're virtually identical.
But we'll never know, because the final is between the US94 kit and the Italia 90 kit. A quick recap of how they got here -
USA 1994
Bt Euro 2012 7-5
Bt 1998-00 9-4
Bt WC 2002 11-5
Bt Euro 88 11-6
Italia 90
Bt 2004 11-6
Bt 2021 13-1
Bt 2005 12-2
Bt 1992-94 11-1

The Italia 90 shirt is a classic no doubt, but there's something about the 1994 shirt that keeps dragging me back. Maybe 11 year old me was more impressed than 7 year old me! Vote has to go to the three amigos and 1994.

Italia 90.
Running so far ahead of the other that not even a relay team of Kevin Moran and Mick McCarthy versus Terry Phelan on a cocktail of crack cocaine and speed could threaten its supremacy.

If it came to it I would have plumped for 88 over 90. As it stands, I'm having a crisis of conscience with 90 over 94.
1990... Just about.

I vote for 90, because it's 90, and perfection, as the Fassbender meme states.
However...the 94 kit is an absolute peach in my eyes, and for me is miles ahead of all others. It's so different, and also isn't a reverse of the 'home' tournament jersey, and has no real similarities to the other Adidas jerseys of that competition. I'd go so far as to say it's the underrated gem of our away jerseys despite reaching the final.

the 94 shirt has grown on me as the competition went on but 1990 gets my vote.
cant help feeling that the tournament kits do better simply because they involve special memories.

I'd say there's an element of that alright. Also, there's a nostalgia thing too as I think most of us here would remember the 88/90/94 tournaments.
But objectively, the home and the away kits have being using a progressively darker green over the years, and I don't think it works as well. I don't like the newer jerseys as a result.
I'll lob in a vote for USA 94 here. I like it - and the home kit was great too - and it doesn't deserve to be hammered quite this badly. It's a consolation goal at 6-1 down, sure, but it's a consolation goal it deserves.

Damn, that's a toughie. Subjectively, '90 is such an iconic and classic design, and associated with such an important time in our modern history. But the child in me remembers the 1994 tournament rather better, and nostalgia has a such powerful bearing over these things. And let's face it, '94 is a pretty darn great-looking kit too. We also scored one of our best ever team goals whilst wearing it.
Anyway, I know I'm onto a loser with this one, but it has to be '94 for me - at a squeak.

A tiny comeback at the end makes the score a bit respectable, but the result was never in doubt. On a score of 11-5, the Italia 90 kit completes the double and is crowned foot.ie's best ever Ireland away kit!

Fixed that for you, PS - let's keep the expectations modest!
Thanks for organising this and the fun of the last few weeks. Looking forward to the next instalment - it'll be interesting to test the nostalgia theory on the Italy 90 keeper kit...

Thanks Stu, very well run as always! :ball:
The only question remains - which would win between the two Italia '90 kits? :)

It's unusual that we had a kit for the majority of that 2002 campaign that was the same kit we used in the 2002 World Cup.
I think the kit we had for the first game, away to Holland, we only had for a year maybe?
Usually when we qualify for a tournament, the manufacturer release a new kit for the tournament to cash in (1994, 2012, 2016)

A Super Cup between the home and the away?
Home for me, no question. It was a lovely shade of green (at the risk of repeating myself!) and I don't know why we've moved away from it.

Home kit.
The rugby moved to a darker green a few years ago too.
At the moment, the rugby jersey is even worse than the soccer jersey, with all weird crap going on all over it.

I suspect you'd be hard pressed to find any team in the world whose fans wouldn't choose a home kit as their favourite?! There's an affinity to that colour that almost has to manifest as an unconscious bias surely?
Feel free to inundate me with exceptions to my barely thought out theory!
