That looked like it was going to be carnage for a while, but 2016 fought back to regain some respectability, only losing 10-5.
That's our four semi-finalists decided so - and they're all consecutive. Euro 88 kit, Italia 90 kit, WC 94 qualifying kit, and WC 94 kit. The Macedonia kit one of the most popular kits not to make it. Nostalgia bias, or an accurate reflection?
The first semi will go up on Monday morning, Tuesday then will be the second semi, Wednesday will be the third-fourth placed play-off, Thursday will be the final, and Friday will be wondering what the next tournament will be!

Open draw for semi or seeding? 90 and 94 probably the favourites with Alan McLoughlin a dark horse, 88 the outsider? Hard to see past 1990 really if there's any justice in the world.

Open draw all the way (except when I had to twice redo the round 2 draw to stop the reprieved Euro 2012 kit from again facing the kit that had beaten it in round 1)

Beat home performance, best away performance? We’ve had best goal right?
Maybe best goal scored against us- couple of contenders stick out

Best goal scored against us might have had its own thread at one stage? Or something similar.
Best performances would be awkward with the different age groups, unless we kept it to last 10/20 years or whatever.

There was a thread about best goal, but I think it was aimed at complete out of the blue wonder strikes. It could work here.
Best performance mightn't be so clean because I can show a picture of the kit or a video of the goal, but the whole match is something different people would remember differently - just look at how people saw the goalkeeping performances in the past week!
Then something random and non-Irish - like best international kit - might be a bit of craic too, albeit harder to source nominations.
I was thinking best goalkeeper kit would be the obvious next stop for this; lots of interesting variations, though keepers' kits have gotten very bland in the past few years.

Yes I think best GK kit would be good.

Looks like you missed it (https://foot.ie/threads/257368-Foot-ie-decides-Ireland-s-best-goal!)!
Knocked out by McAteer's goal away to the Dutch in the last 16. And was runner-up in its group behind Houghton against Italy in 94.

Going back over old ground here but the problem with Kennedy's goal was the replay angle behind the goal. It looked for all the world a top corner screamer on first viewing but actually it went in very centrally and should have been saved really.

Hit too hard to be saved. It was a rocket.
Best Irish goal I’ve ever seen I think.
Even better than Whelan V Russians or Robbie away to Holland in friendly under Kerr

Agree. I was at that game, parallel to where he shot from and it absolutely flew in. Robbie’s goal was a lovely finish in that game too actually.

Stupid fake Monday mornings! Almost forgot about the first semi-final...
Here we go so. Four days to decide it all. First up - Italia 90 v the 94 qualifying kit. Which means ye now know what tomorrow's semi is too

Italia '90.
Agreee with Eirambler on Kennedy's goal, if the keeper tips that over it's not even considered a particularly good save imo. But then again it was knocked out to a 'team goal' where a tackle from the opposition was the assist, and a jammy shinner won the whole thing :o

This would have been a good final actually, two really nice kits. I think though, on balance, the 1990 kit is the slightly nicer of the two.

Not really the competitive bout we were hoping for in a semi-final! An 11-1 thrashing from the Italia 90 kit and it romps into the final
It'll be joined by either the Euro 88 kit or the WC94 kit - your choice until this time tomorrow

Euro 88. The 94 kit is like a turd amongst pizzas in this company. And would I be right in saying that we never won a game and only ever scored one goal in that 94 kit? It doesn't even deserve a positive nostalgia vote. :)

94, nice mix of green and orange in there. something a bit different design wise, very 90s without being too out there.

USA94 qualifying kit.
It was a tough one though. But the memories of that night in Belfast swing it for me. I loved almost every part of that campaign. Even the Spanish lows were a learning experience for my impressionable young self.
EDIT: not that it matters.

In the other semi I will have to take the Euro 88 kit. Probably our finest away strip of all.

Second semi final is another tough one for me. I think the 88 kit has aged better, but I remember how much I liked the 94 kit at the time, when I was 12 I really thought it was the best Ireland kit I had seen, home or away. It definitely hasn't aged as well as others but, taking it as a kit that is of it's time, it gets my vote.
So USA 94 for me.

USA 94 for me.
The creative use of the Adidas three stripes and the fact that it is a unique kit to us (as opposed to the 1993 qualifying Alan McLoughlin jersey), nice dashes of orange in the stripes, collar and chest number, and nice bit of green too (as opposed to some of the plain white efforts we've had in the past) make this one a winner!
