it is a little unfair to make a comparison with soccer to gaa, but renovator is correct in stating that soccer and its facilities has improved radically over the years, and is becoming a huge sport in mayo even though not quite to the extreme of huge supporter attendance at games. i would say there are many pro's doing an excellent job in promoting their club, many local district notes would contain a piece on their club whether it be lotto winners, fundraisers, etc. however, it would be nice to see a page or half a page dedicated to all clubs so all club information could be published in one location.everything relating to gaa and media is and always has been 'in your face' so its time we did the same.
happy st patricks' day to all and best of luck to all teams playing this weekend

have to agree with thunderblaster, if pro's don't send in stuff, then nobody can really complain. I was PRO of a club for a year and anything that was sent in usually made it into all three papers.
I think shinabhuil's point about comparing numbers in GAA v soccer is an invalid one. Look at the amount of people you will get watching a County senior GAA final (often well over 5000) and compare that to soccer attendances (the biggest I know was Westport United's junior cup final where there was 1200).
Also how many people are at regular league games in soccer? Few enough really.
You have to allow for how well supported GAA is in Mayo.
Soccer is on the way up, definitely and in a few years could have as much support. It's not there yet though.
Fair comments. No harm having the debate. I also am a big supporter of the GAA. Great organisation doing a lot of good in the country.
The likes of this forum can do good for genuine soccer supporters. A lot of the political stuff on here is nonsense though. Should foot.ie advertise in the local papers. Get a more broader readership.

Question for everyone who posts - How did you find this website?
There were a few references made to it in local papers last year, was that what drove everyone to 'have a look'?
I don't think the people running this site are desperado enough to advertise for more Mayo soccer enthusiasts to join the site. Thats just ridiculous and goes against everything a WEB FORUM is supposed to be. Digital media, cyberspace - it is replacing the printed fourth estate.
Can you imagine if they did - how many more renovaters do you want to join? We'd be buried under bad syntax and ungrammatical posts for ever.

Right. You claim to appreciate people talking "sence" (sic), but yet seem strangely bereft of it yourself. Fahy Rovers do not lack quality in their side and certainly don't rely on being physical to win matches. We are good at working hard to win back possession but we are neither a big team nor a dirty one. We had one of the lowest fines rates of any teams in Mayo last year for yellow cards and suspensions and are amongst the teams in our division who at least TRY to play football. Swinford, Ballinrobe and Westport B will also be trying to keep the ball on the floor and pass it about a bit. When you look at some of the other teams it makes me wonder if you have seen anyone in our division play at all recently. Do you think Milebush all-weather pitch is suitable for physical football? It's huge, level and impossible to slide tackle on. Surely that would suit a footballing side? And no matter what style we play, why are YOU pulling an angry face? How does it affect you?
I have no idea whether we will go up or not this year but I take exception to someone singling us out for that kind of comment when there are plenty of teams who consider hoofing a form of religion. It's never been our style and hopefully never will be.
Chilly willy man  Thats only my opinon. And ya i cant spell to good but i never was the lick arse in school. Anyhow you will play good football on milebush cos thats the surface that creates the play but admit it ye needed to get the hell outa that "field" . I havent seen ye in the astro so maybe its brought out the best in ye but before that do you not agree that ye relyed alot on physical strengnt and i dont mean being dirty. If ye go up will ye be allowed to play there cause i doubt ye'd have a pitch ready in time . Fill me in ;)

Great result for the Heane yesterday. Looks like old habits die hard however, played so well yesterday and last week could not string two passes together. Looks like another year of if only we beat..........
Well Don how right you are. A great display yesterday following on from that drivel last week. Mind you the Port played some great football too and seems to have solved their goalkeeping problem as well, One marvelous save yesterday and could not be blamed for any of the goals. Nice crowd too but a lot of the fair weather fans seem to have deserted already.
Muinteoir Watch: Seems to be getting to know the players better and not as fussy as a result, like when Joe Lawless F***ed him over a throw- in, he just shrugged his shoulders whereas before he would have went for his pocket. Then again Lawless is a Mayo League star so maybe he gets away with more!!!. Still unfortunately Too many silly cards and the old maxim stays in Mayo that "EASIER GET CARD FOR MOUTHING THAN DIRTY PLAY "

I think that you should analyse all the referees at the games you are at and note all bookings and sending offs and record their offences. Then at the end of the season, give us a statistical breakdown of yellows/reds in the county and then open up a proper debate on bookings.

Well the new season is a couple of weeks old in two divisions and one week old in the 1st division. Has anyone seen any shocks or suprises about the season start?
For me the biggest surprise is Achill's positive start. I tipped them to struggle this season, but as they say it's a long season and it may be a false dawn. I am also surprised by Claremorris's struggle at the start. Are they finding the step up hard or are there other reasons.

Not sure if this is the reason but Achill have had some very good underage teams in the last couple of years. Are these now feeding through?

Achill bet us one nil at the weekend but we could have scored six. We missed a load of sitters. They are an average enough team, but Mc Namara at the back organises them well. They dont seem to be a very young team so not sure about the story with underage. They dont look like a team who will go down though.

Mcnamara this the same fella that played Oscar Traynor with Mayo few Years ago?Achill are hard to beat at home but struggle away from home, can't see them pushing Swinford,Ballinrobe or Fahy for the two promotion places but we'll have to wait and see!!!is it true Eamonn Crean and Dara Ainsworth have signed with the C'bar Celtic B team this year too???

Achill is a town that seems to have a few dual stars in it's ranks. Alot seems to depend on the timing of GAA matches on Sundays. Have played against them several times in both codes and it is very hard to get a result away but they travel very poorly and I reckon much of that is due to GAA matches clashing.
On the subject of Celtic's "B" team. Can a Club have an "A" & "B" team in the same division??

You know us country folk we don't get too excited. Big kick off Sunday at 2.30 in Cross v Urlaur. Whatever happens, happens. Credit for helping us goes to Ballinrobe, Castlebar Utd (Town), Partry, Moyne Villa (Headford), Kilshanvey (Kilconly) and Crumlin Utd (Turloughmore). A soccer family surely.
Looking forward to the cup match vrs Ballinrobe B.

I thought so. You would wonder what the incentive is for the players who were playing Super League and have now signed for the "B" team knowing that even if they win the league, they will not be promoted and will not play Super League again. Surely they would be better signing for another team and at least challenging themselves to playing in the top flight.

You are away to Glenhest Rovers @ 11.30 with M. Walsh as ref. Give John Durkan an email(johndurkanmafl@eircom.net.) We get an email every Monday with results and fixtures. Good service.

Regards to question can you have two teams in the one division is not true to say you can't.
It all depends what rules apply for example in the Galway league it is aloud.
However in the Mayo League you would need a rule change.
But a club such as Celtic could at the begining of the season could affiated the B team with a new committee and then it could take its place in the super league.
that would simply mean the Ateam would not have the use of those players which Registered as Bteam

No need to be too upset Sinabhuil, Urlaur were in the Premier not long ago and probably still have a lot of those players. What did you think was your weaknesses? How was ye're fitness? Having a really fit team will take you a long way in the Second Division.

Wouldn't the incentive be to get into the A team?
As you point out about signing for another team, if a b team is that good and does win promotion to the Super league, it would then be up to that club to decide on whether in should split into two separate clubs.
This obviously has a lot of implications, pitch, money, committee, etc, etc

It was an interesting weekend. The first division provided some high scoring games. Early days yet but does anyone see any trends developing. The obvious thing to me is that Crossmolina are fiinding the going tough in the Super league. Will they do a Sunderland?
What has happened to Conn Rangers?
The biggest shock I think was Hollisters draw with Moyvilla. Is this a resurgent Hollister or Moyvilla having an off day? Running that close was Ballinrobe B's draw with Valley Rovers.
Ballinrobe's loss to Westport B looked like it was a cracker. Jaun Pablo was it the game it seems to be by the scoreline?
I was at the Ballyvary/Partry game myself and it was a good game despite the desperate weather. Partry were well worth their win and finished it off with an absolute peach of a free kick by Jaime Wall that Ronaldinho would have been proud of.:ball:

Two different teams out on the first two days so competition in the team is good but long way to go yet. Good win against Killala, they very physical side and can play football as well, they fitness is good too but we just held on there for a win - we caught them on the break for a last minute goal to win 3-1.
Against Castlebar B, we fell behind but got a pen in the second half and its was nip and tuck for the rest of game. Draw fair result.

the anwser to your question is no other than the super league games due to U-21 work out
remember the differants between Clare and Mayo is our grounds.
And you can thank the Mayo League for that.this is one of the postives that Mayo are proud of.
One must not forget the hard working club officals for making it happen and the goverment for making Lotto money available.
