This part doesn't sound good:
“The advice that Richard has been given is that he will just have to battle through the problem."

Does that suggest some psychological battle, to soldier on?
A specialist suggesting that he must battle on sounds more than something just physical, certainly strange thing for a specialist to say.

Lambert gives lukewarm (in my opinion) reaffirmation that he still wants Dick:

There are mixed messages in that article but I think it's reasonably good news.
That full quote
“I am pretty sure that he will not require another operation. The advice that Richard has been given is that he will just have to battle through the problem."
The repair job has been completed but there's still some issue left and there was a question of another operation, the message back is that he will have to work through that and that it's doable to do that.
All depends on what he has to work through, a paralysed right arm or a twitchy toe?

Dunnies financially secure, so it's all about whether he has the desire to carry on playing with injuries.
Hope he plays on, top man.

'Dunne set to miss rest of season as hopes of new Aston Villa deal fade': http://www.independent.ie/sport/soccer/dunne-set-to-miss-rest-of-season-as-hopes-of-new-aston-villa-deal-fade-29175599.html
RICHARD DUNNE'S chances of playing any part in Aston Villa's season are fading with manager Paul Lambert admitting that the Dubliner is still short of full fitness.
The Ireland defender has not played a competitive match since Euro 2012 and has undergone three operations to cure hip and groin issues.
Dunne is out of contract at Villa Park in the summer and his chances of securing a new deal have been seriously damaged by his lay-off. He is one of the higher earners at the Birmingham club and Lambert is keen to cut the wage bill.
The 33-year-old's experience would be a huge asset to Villa in their relegation battle, but Dunne has not been able to shake off the recurring groin problem.
"He is still not ready to start playing again," said Lambert yesterday. "Richard's injury is one of the most frustrating I've seen.
"It's been stop and start for him. It's been most frustrating for Richard to get back. We just have to see how he progresses over the rest of the weeks this season."
MLS sides New York Red Bulls and LA Galaxy were monitoring Dunne's situation during the January transfer window, and there has also been interest from Stoke and La Liga side Malaga in the past 12 months.
However, the American opportunity was conditional on the Tallaght man demonstrating his well-being and he is running out of time to do so in a meaningful match.
Indeed, the experienced defender could view Ireland's end-of-season gathering as an opportunity to put himself in the shop window.
Giovanni Trapattoni's side play England at Wembley and then move onto a friendly with Georgia in Dublin before the World Cup qualifier with the Faroe Islands and a trip to the United States which may just consist of one game with Spain.
While the older players in the squad who are feeling the effects of a long season might seek reduced involvement in that particular window, Dunne is desperately keen to get matches under his belt.

The interesting bit there was: " Meanwhile, Mick McCarthy is said to be interested in bringing Irish internationals Kevin Doyle and Stephen Ward to Ipswich Town. McCarthy signed both players during his tenure at Molineux, and could be set to snap them up following Wolves' relegation from the Championship." Paper talk I wonder?
Charlie Darwin

I doubt it. Mick is a huge admirer, Ipswich have a bit of money and Wolves are in a very poor bargaining position.
Lambert is dead right with Dunne. He should under no circumstances be risked this summer.

According to The Telegraph, he will be released which unfortunately could be the end of him if he cannot gain fitness soon. As much as it pains me to admit, it looks like Charlie Darwin got this one right. Ireland and Given to possibly join him.

Never believe what you read in the Mirror! Both Given and Ireland on €3 million. Good money for warming the bench.
Where to now for the Honey Monster ? No place unless he gets fit I am afraid. Assuming he gets fit, some place like West Ham or one of the promoted sides? Don't see him dropping a division yet.

Very well aware of tabloid newspapers, but I lived in hope Dunne would survive at Villa. Quite pessimistic about his future, however, the Indo outlines some possible destinations for him.

Trap says he won't start unless he is 100% fit, not sure what to make of that.
Certainly his experience would be of great value even if he is not.
Also a bit about Stephen Quinn.
"Quinn has been nicknamed by fans as 'Quinniesta' due to Quinn's playing style that is similar to the Iniesta the Spain and Barcelona Star. Quinn's impressive first season with The Tigers was rewarded by an international call-up for Geovanni Trapottoni's Republic of Ireland squad on 27th May, 2013"
Not much about Quinn on this forum just one or two posts in his thread the rest off topic. (gonna dig it up).
That seems appropriate as he has been called up.

Dunne is to return to action for the Georgia game: http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/international/2013/0530/453700-dunne-set-for-georgia-return/
Republic of Ireland manager Giovanni Trapattoni has confirmed Richard Dunne will play some part in Sunday's friendly against Georgia.
The 33-year-old central defender has not made a single appearance for either his club Aston Villa or his country all season because of injury.
However, having trained with his international team-mates for the last few days, he is set to end his enforced exile at the Aviva Stadium.
Trapattoni said: "I have spoken with him and I have already said he will play some of the game on Sunday. Whether he will start or come on later, we have to decide, but it is possible for him to play."

I hope the dunneymonster gets a standing ovation if he comes on, or when he goes off.
I tried to start a chant of richie dunne a couple of times on Wednesday but i was on my own, probably cos most there don't know it, but I think for him it would have been nice and provided some much needed support. Hopefully it gets going on Sunday with the 10k plus supporters :)

Paul was one row behind me. I was about 700 yards above the pitch. There's a reason Paul's chant didn't catch on. My son would have joined in if he'd heard him. He was repeating everything he heard. At breakfast on Thursday he was asking my wife what a blind Scottish ******* was.
