Lads i dont know what all the fuss is about the soccer and the gaa season interlapping it has always been the same, i remember playing a west senior football final in December back in 85 or 86 so grow up and get on with it and applaud the players of both codes who keep the flags flying at both ends of the soccer and gaa seasons.

I see that there was no referee available for Kildimo-v-Glin on Sunday! :interesting:
Very Interesting that the referee assigned to the game had booked the week end off to celebrate his 40th wedding anniversary (Not something that you would forget to book a week end off for). Yet this same referee is then conveniently assigned to the one game that involves a team looking for their game to be cancelled as they have a GAA game on the same day and will not have a team. What are the chances eh?
What makes this story more intriguing is that Kildimo found themselves in the exact same situation only last week end, when they had a GAA game that clashed with their soccer match. But they were not allowed to get the game called-off, forcing them into the embarrassing situation of having to give a walk over and pay a hefty fine. And now to top it off the exact same fixture (Kildimo vs Glin) is fixed for next week-end when Kildimo will be out in the Munster football championship and most likely missing half a team. And the same ref is assigned, so lets hope for Kildimo's sake that it's his birthday or something this week-end!!
You wouldn't have to be the greatest conspiracy theorist in the world to work out what happened last week. The Desmond league following in the footsteps of FIFA.....although less money was probably involved and more likely a few pints were paid for!!!

I assume Paudie Manning was the ref in question and he couldn't do it cause he got injured at the Abbey B/Rockhill game the night before ?

Could be the case Johnnie all I saw was the note on fixture on the website, That would be some serious piece of luck for Glin although they are out again on the weekend of the 23rd so will prob be in a similar situation again
How many more fixtures are scheduled before the Christmas break does anyone know?

going by last year langerdan007 the fixture went up2 the week before christmas.... if weather permits i dont see any reason why this wouldnt happen again....

11/11/2014, 3:26 PM
If we get lucky with weather that'd be about 6 games - that'd be some dent in the league for that time of year - we'll have half the league campaign finished this Sunday
Lot of rain of late though - I thought myself Sunday that it was the first game where you could say it was really soft

i think there is both good and bad points if another 5-6 league games got played.... the bad points are really haven to wait sometimes 3-4 weeks for a game inbetween cup games and other teams catching up but i think the league should try to aim to have all teams at level pegging this side of xmas so teams do not amass a backlog of fixtures. if all teams havd just say 12 league games played (if possible) it would really make for a exciting end of season especially if there are 3-4 teams still in contention.
Langerdan007
12/11/2014, 8:17 AM
I'd agree twotouch - if weather holds they should try and get things even as possible before the break, teams going deep in the cups makes it difficult at times though - the teams that have a lot of league games played are always going to end up with 2/3 week breaks

Lads, anyone know how division 3 is operating? 13 teams in that division and I'm wondering is it home and away giving 24 games which seems a lot while if teams play eachother once it gives 12 games which may be too little. Colm Dalton injured? Doing what? Running?

Also lads on the Kildimo - Glin game if I recall it was the injured referee who was supposed to do that game and had to be replaced by another referee who was not available. It was the same as a few posts ago about a Pallaskenry match, there is no need to mention any refs names, if we want we can check website or paper to see who it was and what was said a few posts ago about a ref was ridiculous, try not to make every match decision or fixture into topic of a mad conspiracy or personal vendetta.
I agree completly as to not mentioning names, but infairness to the poster in this case i don't think he was labelling any blame at the foot of the referee, of course refs are entitled to weekends off.
The dirty weather is coming over the hills at the moment, could be in for a rough couple of weeks fixturewise now. Hopefully we can get to the half way stage of all leauges for Christmas.

Correct I didn't mention any names and I was not laying ANY blame at the referee in question. He is one of the better and fairer referee's in the league and I don't for one second doubt that he genuinely had booked the week-end off.
I was just suggesting that it was strange that he was still assigned a game by the league, when he obviously had the week end booked off.......and the game he was assigned to just happened to be the Kildimo vs Glin game!!!

Oldman once again you seem ill informed, Glin won the county final last Saturday,I couldn't see them giving a walkover regardless, they'll find away.
In terms of matches league are right to proceed as normal, I think the players should be pushing for Saturday matches with their gaa clubs.
I think desmond league soccer clubs know they are nothing without there gaa players so they have to try and accomadate them, its what a community is all about.
The last I heard most soccer clubs are community clubs, and I for one would like to see it kept that way.
Rathkeale, Broadford , Abbeyfeale , Glantine, Breska ,Foynes, Shanagolden Kilcornan , Ballysteen all had to deal with it in the past Glin and Kildimo no different this year.
Just a pity County board can't have the fixtures over going in to the second week in November.
Ill informed. Did the match go ahead.enough said

Kildimo asked for the game Sunday to be called off cos there GAA players have a quarter final at the same time and the league refused. As for the 11 v 12 . Pallaskenry are playing rockhill in a semi final.ill let ye figure that out

Lot of anger at the league there old man!!! TBF Glin didn't officially get their game/weekend off either on account of a GAA game, at least there's consistency which isn't often the case
Interested to see how Pallas get on - Rockhill tough year last year but are always one to watch in the cups

Must have been a different game. Pallas had about 3 shots on target if that. Shocking tactics. Hoofing long ball against a team that will eat them up all day. Should have used the wings more. Rockhill always looked comfortable down the middle.

To be fair to pallas it was a bad game. Pallaskenry midfielders were very poor they couldn't put 2 passes together. Pallaskenry manger was telling them to keep the ball on the deck to be fair.i think rockhill only had 2 shots on target. But rockhill are a great cup team.but did the GAA match affect Pallaskenry. Did they have any lads playing in the quarter-final

Maybe one or two but a lot of the Pallas lads on the GAA team play with Kildimo AFAIK
Think the GAA finished 5-12 to 4 points - The other team had a soccer match on :p

All banter aside. Disappointing loss for Pallaskenry. But I'd imagine league is priority.

Looks terribly tight at the top of that division - Glin/Abbey B with games in hand - Pallas with one game in hand could be 5 points between 1st and 5th at the halfway point!!

Rovers 2:1 NCW

Was at the game, not a great spectatcle with regards to quality... but it was very tense. Wasn't a dirty game by any stretch of the imagination a few hard tackles alright ... one or 2 late but nothing too serious.
Rovers played very well in the first half & led 2-0 at halftime, although NCW AFC had 2 decent opportunities to score.
NCW AFC began the second half brightly and scored about 10mins in.. kept pressing for the equaliser but didn't create a whole pile... one Sean Cronin chance apart. Rovers subdued enough in the second half almost like they were afraid to lose... will have to improve to be involved at the business end of the season.
Fair play to NCW AFC for turning things around... hopefully they get more points on the board & stay up... who knows what might have happened had they Tony Quaid & Donnachadh Woods yesterday!

Big game sunday in Abbeyfeale. Abbey will look to bounce back after the defeat when they met last time in the league. Heard rathkeale are missing a few gone to the limerick senior footballers although this will effect abbey with Mike Sheehan too. I think rathkeale could be suspect at the back with there lack of height, especially on of there center halfs who is very small altogether.

I'd have to agree with you there Sexyfootball! Thought NCW deserved a draw at least. Had two great chances in the first half and about 3 within the last 20 mins of the game. Rovers seem to be a good ball playing team but seem like they lack quality and to create chances when they need them the most. Iv seen them in their last 3 games and have been very lucky not to have lost at least two of the games. Hopefully they can push on and challenge Rathkeale and Broadford for the league because I do think they have a good enough team to do it

Important to keep in mind pallas have only lost 1 game all season. So if there is 1 or 7 managers it's working lol.
