It seems to be just a jumble of vaguely accurate and inaccurate opinions with little evidence to back them up.

I was just going to post that it is very similar to a lot of the posts on here but you got there ahead of me!

Yeah, that would be my only gripe with that article too.

I think the parts above are contradictory considering Robbie scored against Russia in that game. Also, to play the "big teams" card deliberately ignores his contribution to Ireland in the past year — he has scored quite a few important goals for us recently — his two goals versus Macedonia away, his goal versus Macedonia at home and his general performance versus Estonia in the play-off were all more recent than the Russia game, and were all critical to our Euro 2012 qualification.

He doesn't have any goals in 2012 admittedly, but virtually no-one does for Ireland at the minute (St. Ledger, Long and Cox have 1 each in 2012). His form for Ireland has been excellent up until 2012 (8 in 10 games in 2011, 4 in 8 in 2010) and he's scoring goals in the MLS at the moment, whatever that means. I'd still rather have him in the team than Long for the minute.
I assume the author meant the away game in Russia, which was a year ago yesterday, since he refers to the past year. You have to say, one goal from four games mentioned is not good going.

Cox to do far better than anticipated with McCarthy running midfield.

*braces self for being proven horrifically wrong*

I have backed Cox to get on the scoresheet.

Good shot from McCarthy, tried to bend it in the corner but a good save from the keeper. O'Shea and Walters both should have done better.

For those of us in the US, the game is on GolTV

On GolTV in Canada too

Set-pieces might come in handy here. The Kazakhs defended all 3 of those early corners terribly.

Dam I paid for a stream and now I find there are a few free ones, it's really top quality though
pretty much as good as broadcast TV so I can't grumble. Not sure if the aspect ratio is correct though
players looking a little squat. (edit think I have sorted it out but I think maybe the TV in Kazakhstan maybe 4:3)

Half the fans that went to Poland aren't even watching this. FACT.

It's been all Kazakh without any real threats. They've cut through us a few times. I think patience is going to be the key here.

Pitch looks very quick, playing a bit of havoc with some of the passing.

Good play between the Cox and Walters there.

Also nice to see the Kazakh fans enjoying themselves!

In trouble now. Can't say the Kazakhs aren't worth it either, they've been playing decent enough.

Oh cripes. Another set piece. Ward gave away the free kick, but no replays so can't really evaluate what happened. It looked a very good header. Disaster.

Had a feeling this campaign would go the way of the McCarthy Euro 2004 one. Players look like they are suffering a hangover from the previous tournament.

The sooner we get knocked out in Qualifying the sooner we can get Trap out. I'd take McCarthy again at this stage.

Ronnie Whelan savaging the team right now. "Long ball and hope".

In fairness to Trap, this long ball thing works even though it is dire stuff to watch. The ball has broken for us a few times, the law of average says keep it up and we'll get a couple here in the second half.

Which Messiah should we bring on now, McClean or Long? Coleman?

Noelys Guitar
07/09/2012, 4:55 PM
Total shambles. And it didn't just come out of the blue. We can still save this game but I have a horrible feeling Keogh is going to come on instead of Long. I would get Whelan off immediately and bring on Meyler. Keane off immediately and bring on Long. Oh and drop the two chancers off in Rome on the way back.

I'll support anyone in a green shirt but Ward is so limited it's unreal. He genuinely seems frightened to have the ball. All he's done is hoof. What is it with Trap's insistance in playing strikers on the wing? Cox has barely seen the ball and when he has, has not been able to do anything with it.

McGeady is doing quite well I think, he's double marked every time he gets the ball at this feet, and he's still creating down the left wing. Reminds me of Duff circa 2004 when he was in his prime for us. He just needs to put in one or two low crosses and have a striker give it a little tappy-tap into the back of the ol' onion bag.

In fairness to Irish football this clueless old buffer should stop swindling the FAI out of a fortune and get his coat now.

Relax, they scored from a set piece, it happens!

Mr Trapattoni knows what he's doing, so get off his back.

In Trapp we trust!
