thats actually a harsh criticism of kelly. i find him to be quite informed and enthusiastic about the game.
the other two i mentioned are far too negative
He offers more insight into the actual football than Whelan or Houghton, I agree.
But he still sounds like an excited child

I'd have thought most pundits have higher pitched voices in general. It doesn't really bother me - just glad to have someone who does his research and knows what he's talking about.

T'would be a lovely little RTE Panel, if only Brady would retire. One game in and I'm already sick of him, the negativity, the sweeping generalisations, the attitude that makes it seem like he would rather be anywhere else. I don't even like Sadlier that much, but he always seems educated about the teams he's watching at least.

Duff, Cunningham, Roy Keane and on occasion Damien Delaney are the only former Ireland internationals of the past 30 years who come across well in punditry for me

Not sure about that. He nominated Qatar as the team to watch. Hadn't he seen them play us ?

Enjoying Richie Sadlier and Kevin Doyle partnership this morning. Both positive and well-briefed and interesting and they are riffing well off each other in a way that doesn't occur with cranky Brady or more awkward Cunningham sitting beside either of Doyle or Sadlier or one another.

I like Sadlier. I don't share the enthusiasm for Doyle though. The things he says are generally cogent and well informed, but he has a voice that would be ideal for conveying a message to shoppers over a department store intercom system in the event that a group of priests were trying to escape from the largest lingerie section in Ireland.

Don't think Doyle is great on his own or with a lesser pundit. I think he's being dragged up to a better level by Sadlier. You can tell he is engaged and enthused when Sadlier speaks and he generally supports or counters with a decent point that is delivered in a better manner than normal (i.e. and I don't completely disagree with your description there, although the Wexford accent is a flat one in general).

OK that made me laugh - there is definitely a touch of a Fr. Ted character about his voice.
I like him though!

One concurs on Doyle. I would like to add Gary Breen to my list of former Irish internationals who are worthwhile pundits

I thought RTE announced Duffer was on their pundit panel for the World Cup. Either I'm wrong or I have missed him or he hasn't been on yet. Could be the very latter as he might have taken a little break post cup final. He is another that is like Doyle in that he can be energized by his partners or more that his partners can impact his tone like wet blankets.
Another thing about Doyle is that sometimes he looks a tad hungover or something. Not cast aspersions on his professionalism - I think he owns and runs a bar and works with horses and none of that work is conducive to standard office hours.
He's a likeable fella and knows and loves his football and his knowledge is current.
Himself and Sadlier would have been a good strike partnership too if things went a different way!

He also almost made the Euro 2016 squad. He would’ve been handy to have to replace the injured Jonathan Walters (V Sweden).
IIRC he got a nasty injury in the final Dublin friendly before the euros (can’t remember who we were playing?). And he was having a stormer of a game before getting his leg sliced open

Things seemed a little frosty between Peter Collins and Kenny Cunningham. Collins didn't appreciate Kenny's little jibes I think. Uncomfortable viewing really.
I have on several occasions already during this World Cup (and during the Norway friendly) thought Kenny Cunningham has to be ****ed here. Obviously he isn’t but he says some bizarre things and goes way off on random tangents.
I like Doyle/Kelly/Sadlier/Hamann and thin the panel is very good in general.

I think Kelly is too much like a schoolboy getting transition year experience for my liking. The rest are all grand but probably a bit too much Dublin going on. Especially on co commentator.

Cunningham was on with Given one night and the host (Collins I think) brought up Given getting into the FAI hall of Fame. Cunningham was asked about 3 times to say something positive about Given and his admission but he just kept making woeful jokes about Given not deserving. It was cringe and everyone knows Given was a quality keeper (don't they?) So it did nothing only frustrate viewers I would imagine.

A few of the older panellists/co-commentators could do with being quietly let go. Ronnie Whelan sounds so genuinely miserable whenever he opens his mouth, it's clear he just despises modern football and is desperate to whinge. That's his prerogative, but it makes for aggravating listening. And Cawley I generally have a bit of time for, but he's one of the worst for Mark Lawrenson-esque "There wasn't much in that" sentiment.

From watching the bit of coverage,Des Curran and Pat Fenlon are my favourite commentary duo,Whelan and Brady need binned,Kenny Cunningham is better in the studio than on commentary and Tony ODonoghue is not a great presenter…

I think Des Curran deserves to be RTEs no 1 commentator at this stage. I get the impression that only George Hamilton, Darragh Moloney, Ray Houghton and Ronnie Whelan have travelled and the rest are doing the commentary from the studio.

Brady calls time on it, the last chapter closes on that era crew.
Hours after he said what he said about our current team also, a pity to go out like that & possibly connected ?

He's seemed pretty miserable in that job for a while now. It's past time.

I think Brady's frustration just got the better of him, a father Jack moment.
There's little argument that it's the worst performing managerial period since 1972, but it's very questionable about the current bunch of players being the worst ever to choose from.

Maybe he was hoping for a call-up for tonight's game... could be an upgrade after Greece!

Does anyone remember Eamon Dunphy doing an ad circa 1990 for cheesy sausages?
I can’t find it online anywhere and I need to prove it happened and that I’m not losing my mind

None of the above. It may have been champion cheese sausages.
The main question is, do any of you remember it?
And the tagline was Eamon saying something like ‘they’re not just good, they’re great!’
