Crusaders Vs. Rovers
Shams Vs. Derry

Doire should be a good tie. Not sure how good Crusaders are since beating Bohs with a clean sheet seems to just be the done thing these days.

Seems the Linfield fans were fairly charming in Brandywell tonight...some interesting chants by reports.

It was difficult to make out the chants on the TV, but the chorus of God Save the Queen didn't go down well when they were 1-0 up. Molloy shut them up fairly quickly, mind.

Supposedly a load of Hunger Strike chants and such. Friend was up at the game and said basically they were a disgrace. Riot police outside the ground afterwards too.

Pretty sure I heard a refrain of the "Billy Boys" too. "Up to Our Necks in Fenian Blood" etc. Nice! Decent game though. I enjoyed it at any rate. Linfield bossed the first half, Derry the second. Great first goal by Derry, superb cross by Madden and great header from Molloy. Won't see too many better than that this season I wouldn't think. Actually all the goals were good moves and very well taken. Was in two minds to be honest. Didn't really want Linfield to win, and yet, the competition badly needs the northern teams (and probably particularly Linfield, as they have the best support) to be getting to the Final on a regular basis. If it continues to be dominated by LOI clubs then the northern teams could lose interest.

I think it must be all a misunderstanding. The nice chaps from Linfield were just offering to take their friend Bobby out to dinner, and reminiscing about a day out when they were "up to their necks in fields of mud".
Was all good clean fun!

Unfortunately this seems to be the norm these days.

If people get wound up by chats from the opposition they are bigger idiots then the idiots singing the songs in the first place. Why were Linfield fans not allowed into the ground until the game was about to kick off? That is going to **** off any football fan.*

Cruesaders are having a decent enough season especially in knock out competitions. They've already won one trophy and into the semi finals of the Irish cup, only 5th in the league but their cup credentials will make them hard to beat next round.

Sadly the Derry match will be remembered for all the wrong reasons. One Linfield fan(who incidentially is actually from Derry) will be regretting going on bakebook due to this comment:

For what was a football match, very few of the chants I heard at the game were even remotely football related. Feckin' wasters.

... Indeed, Mr. Middleton; sectarian individuals will suffer lapses of judgment from time to time, especially when on the drink.
If such opinions were significant or widespread rather than "anecdotal", it would be a cause for concern. I don't think they are though. At least, I'd hope they aren't. The "lashback" wasn't much better than Middleton's original comment either. I encountered a few idiots on my Bakebook feed condoning retaliatory violence and intimidation of Middleton...

It'll be interesting to see if the PSNI do anything over this. They've brought others before the courts for "incitement to hatred" and considering the backlash he's caused by that one comment, shouldn't he face charges? Anyway this isn't Current Affairs. Roll on Shams!

Heard a few and saw a couple of OAP cheerleaders. Official attendance is 750. The very rough estimate of 1,000 turned out to be slightly exaggerated.

Full-time in Tallaght. Derry win 3-0. Ryan McBride rounded the scoring off with a header. Can't see Rovers overturning that in the Brandywell.

Rovers didn't really put up a challenge at any point. Finn found a lot of room in midfield but Twigg was too isolated to really make the best of it.
The sending off was an awful decision - even if it hadn't been a dive, he had lost control of the ball and was moving away from goal. Rovers probably should have had a couple of penalties too.

Wow, surprised by both results. Shamrock have a lot to do, Sligo can still turn it around. Hats off to Derry, fair play!

Think the challenge justified the penalty. Laws say kick or attempt to kick and he game rishing out studs showing. However Derry man went left - ball went right - unless a player was coming in wide off camera and could have scored it wasnt denying a goal scoring opportuntity. Dont think it was serious foul play so a yellow probably enough.
However a great result for Derry - wish I had taken the 14/1 double on Derry / Crues wins.

Biggest possible crowd for a final now would be Crues V Derry city at Windsor.
I would estimate 12,000 at least on a Sat afternoon in May!

I would expect sligo to turn around the result against crues next week.cup specialists and all.
As for Rovers- christ only knows what will happen, tho evidently our new manager does not rate the competition very highly if he's picking colin hawkins to play in a semi final..

This competition is dead from an attendance perspective, if Rovers can't even get 1000 at a semi-final.

Being 3-0 down and with a long trip to Derry on a Monday night - I predict another travel "boycott" by Shams fans. ;)

We shouldn't consider turning to your fans for help getting out of the brandywell if this is the general attitude.

What are you talkin about?
There was NO contact by Pieterse whatsoever, so no penalty should have been awarded. McDaid is a diving c**t and Kelly never gave Rovers an ounce last night, two possibly three handballs in the area by derry players, one of them 5 feet from the cork numpty and he just waived it away smiling.
If he is regarded as our best ref, god help us.
