ya ray massey is gone back into city league.askeaton had a few problems last season players going missing and others leaving country for work.but if im honest the two managers in askeaton did very well with what they had.

Akeaton have been really affected by immigration alright. Its an awful pity especially with the facilities that they have there.

Very sorry to see Old Mill pull their team. They havbeen around a good while now and have been in the premier division a few times in the past decade.
Good news though for Carrig and Kilcolman

Abbeyfeale proposed to start the league cups at the beginning of the season at last years agm. Clubs voted against it though, there arguement was that clubs who had no chance of winning the league would have nothing left to play for come the end of season. Personally I agree with previous comments that it should be played at the start of the season, if a team is'nt going well near the end of season there not going to get to excited about the league cup. Dont always blame the fixtures sec. for these decisions he can only go on what the clubs pass at the agm.

Well done to the Old Mill for keeping it going, nice club, nice people there and good luck to them, even if they take a few hidings, hang in there and regroup in better times hopefully.

Drink driving ban ruined the desmond league.
It used to be all about a match in the morning, back to the home teams chosen pub for soup, sandwiches and a few pints. That craic is gone now and is sorely missed. It was a great for building camradarie between teams.

Ballingarry used to do a great spread in Barretts. Sausages, black pudding and buttered bread.
Broadford used to do a great feed of soup and sandwiches
Askeaton used to do sandwiches and chicken legs
Carrig Celtic always had a great spread too.

Fair play to the Old Mill is right hopefully they will put together a good enough team to stay up in Div 1. Although i did hear Anthony Molyneaux and Ray Cahill have deafinately joined Carrig Celtic, if this is true will make for an interesting match when the 2 teams meet in the league!
FunTimes you do make a good point, not sure about the drinking ban but the spread a home team used to put out let all teams have a good post match 'chat'!! The spread is only done for teams in inter county competitions i.e. munster senior/junior and FAI, that is if it is done at all!

No worries boywonder, but isnt it a pity that their isnt a cup competition involving teams just from ldmc premier and desmond premier, both leagues have floodlight facilities so midweek games in the winter wouldnt be a problem, have to say broadford where very good when we played them, anyway just an idea.

I thought you wud have said Keith Hartnett was the best thing to come out of this league...in my opinion the best thing that came out of this league would be the oscar traynor trophy that the Desmond League won few years ago

a couple of years ago i would have said that pike boro balla or fairview would have given the senior side a run for their money.not anymore.

The biggest club in Limerick City is probarbly Angel Lane or the Icon, no?!!
Fixtures are usually more or less the same as the previous year. Hopefully the idea of playing 4 games over the first 2 weekends wont be a problem for teams!

I dont think the Icon can hold 20,000
Newcastle against Kildimo and Abbey againt Ballingarry the pick of next Fridays Fixtures. Newcastle to go into the season as favourites with Abbey to finish second

I think Shannoside v Broadford game is the pick of the games.... think NCW and Abbey to win comfortably and Broadford to beat Shannonside:ball:

Where are the years fixtures?did they forget to put them in or what the youths and u19 are in?? no Newcastlewest team at u19????

Not for teams with lads away. I know this was discussed before but im my opinion starting off with the League Cups will have to be looked at again. Its a good preseason for the lads who couldnt do one because of GAA and the pressure would be off teams with regards to starting their best teams on Friday nights. I wouldnt be suprised if each Premier League team were missing at least 1 player from their starting 11 next week because of the rush trying to get home

sexyfootball
17/08/2011, 3:04 PM
I Agree with you 100% Leon, if players are away and rushing to get home, then making these matches and not going in fully warmed up, increases their chances of getting injured. I'd have to go with Newcastle West to win the Premier, with Abbeyfeale Glin & Broadford behind, (hopefully the GAA wont affect these teams too much)!!
