Limerick Desmond League 2010/11

League Cup div 4. I think that Athea Utd will win this one. Nothing between the teams in the league but Athea did beat Carrig fairly comfortably in their last meeting having lost to Carrig in the first meeting. For Div 4 both, these sides play pretty good football and I would expect a decent game. The youths match on Sat. will be a tight affair and I expect Abbeyfeale to prevail eventually. Having said that Broadford have some nice young players and it could go all the way. Best of luck to all concerned and please go and support all your teams.

Heard there was a massive crowd in askeaton for the carrig b versus athea b in the league cup..heard there was hundreds at it.. Went watching the Newcastle v shannonside game.. Good entertaining game. Draw probably fair result..Gary Shanahan scored twice for ncw and Hanlon and o Connor scored for shannonside..great second goal by shanahan..league is in abbeyfeales hands to lose now..5 points behind with 2 games in hand. Other premier game between rathkeale and ncw rovers finished 1-1 I think

Athea were probably the better team overall on the night, first half was poor but after half time athea had three great chances but didnt take them, carrig winner came from a corner that the keeper dropped, a great time to score

Things will be looking much clearer after this weekend so.
Abbey will have there two games in hand on Shannonside played and could be top of the league come Sunday evening.
Askeaton V Kileaney is the crunch match in terms of relegation. Whoever wins that should stay up.
I think everyone will have 16 games played.

Is it true there is talk of a couple of teams pulling out of the league for financial reasons and also with players heading abroad that clubs will struggle for players.
Question!!
Why has the Desmond League season to be so long,there will be serious problems if they do not address this issue as next year due to the shortage of players and the usual GAA season overlap.it's crazy to have a season that starts the end of August and will not be finished until the end of May.
Let's hope they wake up and address this problem before it becomes a serious issue.

its an absolute joke they should have far more teams playing on Friday nights to try and finish up the season....

Looks like Abbeyfeale will pip Shannonside for the league after Shannonside leading for the majority of the season....kileaney will prob go down after that heavy defeat to Ncw thaught they would have got a result being at home.... I wouldn't say that abbeyfeale will pip shannonside to the title..they are playing rathkeale on Sunday and Newcastle west next friday..two very hard games..yes kildimo promoted but what terrible field and don't have dressing rooms either..it wud be sad to see killeaney go down with their facilities..great field and dressing rooms

Looking interesting at the top and bottom of the table..abbeyfeale going top and playing home to Newcastle west on Friday and away to killeaney on Sunday..anyone from the bottom 4 or 5 teams can be relegated to the 1st division..I think abbeyfeale will win both games next weekend and win the league..

i was at the Abbey V Rathkeale game the weekend and could not believe what i saw.. A desmond league ref standing in the Abbey dug out and cheering them on.. is it just me or was that OTT.. Also i heard that a member of the Desmond league committee was a total disgrace at a game on sunday regarding the ref. The desmond league really need to have a serious look at the way the league is going IMO.

its a total disgrace that this ref was in the abbey dugout,well to be honest he did do them a huge favour in the league by helping shannonside lose two points against glin,does every one remember the big debate on this bout standard of referees ,well its that same ref.those two points are the reason abbey are on top now and will prob win the league,and ref s are suppose to be neutral,well its an absolute disgrace and he should never b allowed ref a desmond league match again even if they are short of referees,fair play my arse,fellows like him looking for respect then he should show a bit of it,now if abbey win there last two games after winning there two last weekend then they prob deserve to win league.could be a very interesting weekend,best of luck to all teams involved

Maybe it would be more in Rathkeales line to be putting out full teams instead of rubbish for title deciding matches rather than concentrating on who was in the Abbey dugout

I thought that the reason that Abbeyfeale United were top was down to the fact that they beat Shannonside 2-1 in Shanagolden, but then again what do I know? Shannonside also drew 2 other games apart from Glin Rovers match but I suppose that wouldn't have any relevance to the league table either!!!!!!
