Shannonside 2-1 Kileaney any report from this game? Shannonside still looking solid at the top of the League

Rathkeale V Abbeyfeale in the munster Junior Cup should be a cracker this weekend

Heard Shannonside were lucky enough to win yesterday but a win is a win. Abbey and Newcastle will push them all the way. Looks like it will be a 3 way fight to the finish.
Very hard to call promotion in the other 4 divisions at the moment. Only Ballingarry in Div 1 look certs. Good to see the leagues being so competitive

Ya I agree with u there..when the football starts again I can see shannonside falling away a bit..they will find it hard when they play Newcastle west and abbeyfeale and rathkeale again...going by the Desmond league website they haven't played Newcastle west yet..think it's going to be a very tight division this year

have to say ray massey played very well againts four players in ncw back line and got alot more chances than that 1 on 1 on. the ground massey had yer centre halfs and wing backs in his pocket.....ncw played well but yes all you could hear was ref ref ref ref ref ref ref..........askeaton should have got a point from the game fair play to askeaton never gave up

Shannonside have played Rathkeale twice and beaten them i think at this point with nine games played and 27 points there will be no beating them to the league this season.

Although Shannonside have the points in the bag, cannot see them lasting the pace. GAA season is upon us, & no doubt this will negatively affect Shannonside as it does every year. People forget we're still only at the half way mark. My money is on NCW, with Abbey pushing them all the way. With the quality players they've got back NCW are the team to beat. Shannonside have to play NCW twice yet remember, hard to see them getting any points there when you compare players on both sides. Just my opinion.

Lads in my opinion most of ye are not looking at this year specifically and are only going by what happened in years past. The way Im looking at the leaders at the moment is that they have a good few players who have to be said have a lot of it played and will not get a better chance to win something before they hang up their boots. They are not going to throw away all their effort and hard work so far this year very easy even if they play Gaelic Football aswell.
Its theirs to lose at the moment and all the other teams have a lot of work to do to catch them.It will be an interesting finish to the season with the games coming thick and fast. Shannonside are not used to being in this position whereas Abbey and NCW have been in more recent years. Interesting finish in store.

Interesting finish it will be have shannonside not played Abbeyfeale or NCW yet or have they beaten abbey. If they have it will be tough for the chasing pack. It's true for el nino once the intensity picks up and there are two games a week the resolve of shannonside will be tested. Best of luck to three teams in contention it's a while since there has been such competition in the race for the title.

Shannonside inflicted Abbyfeale's only league defeat according to the paper.

I've heard a rumour Abbey B have pulled out of Div 1. It's only an unconfirmed rumour and there may be absolutely no truth in it whatsoever. Can anyone confirm/deny this ?

limkdesmond
20/01/2011, 11:59 AM
I think the title will be very close this year..shannonside will def be there towards the end but I can see Newcastle west pushing them all the way..I think Newcastle west will pip them for the league, especially when they have to play each other twice and I think ncw will win both games with the players they brought back..abbeyfeale will be there also and they have to play shannonside once more..I think abbeyfeale have to play Newcastle twice in the league but I'm not sure though...other teams could take points off shannonside, abbey and ncw like ncw rovers, broadford and rathkeale..they are no bad teams like...

What bout delegation this year?? Who do ye think will go down this year? I think glin and adare will go down this year.both teams haven't played well this year but adare got 3points at home to adare last weekend

It seems I was mis-informed about Abbey. Apologies. I would have to go for Newcastle to win the league, with Shannonside runners up. Adare and Glin look favourites to go down although if Adare get a run going on the back of last weeks win they have a chance. Ballingarry and any one of about 5 teams to come up

limkdesmond
20/01/2011, 2:12 PM
Don't mind who comes up as long as they have a good field and dressing rooms

Can anybody explain the rapid decline of Glin Rovers ?? Maybe theres somebody on here from Glin.

I predict them to stay up but only just.

Adare will not stay up. Hope Ballingarry come back up.Nice pitch and dressing rooms.

limkdesmond
20/01/2011, 4:28 PM
Yup I agree with el nińo. Ballingarry have one of the best set ups in the league.great dressing rooms and beautiful field and astro turf also..st itas have poor field and dressing rooms, pallaskenry have poor enough field and dressing rooms, kildimo have dreadful field and dressing rooms..wouldn't mind seeing carrig come back up..good enough field and good dressing rooms...

Dunno what happened to glin..runners up in the league few years back and won Desmond cup..they are at the wrong side of the table..maybe they r not used to the field in tarbet

'El Nino'
20/01/2011, 9:36 PM
Have Kildimo dressing rooms? I think myself there are maybe a few too many teams in certain areas of the desmond league. The likes of Kilcornan and Kildimo could combine and make one good team that challenges annually instead of once in a few years.I am only using those 2 clubs as an example.I just wonder is the catcment area large enough at all.
As for Glin I think the field in Tarbert wouldnt entice you to play soccer but with the players they have/had at their disposal I think they should still get results down there.

limkdesmond
20/01/2011, 10:03 PM
Sorry my apologies.last I heard kildimo don't have dressing rooms..had to change in the car on the side of the road..and a bad field with that..with the players glin have they shud be getting results no matter what kind of field they play on but they might get outta trouble towards the end of the season if teams above them stop getting points

Couple of good games tomorrow NCW Rovers v NCW & Munster junior Abbey V Rathkeale. Any predictions lads? I think Rathkeale will go through V Abbey. Big test of where NCW are now, I don't think the Askeaton team last Sunday was the strongest, NCW Rovers will definately be a tougher game, Draw!

I agree with El Nino that clubs in low populated areas join up together. There is far to many clubs in the desmond league at the moment and this affects the overall standard.Every crossroad seems to have a team now. Also bring on summer soccer looks like we could have a lot of cancelations again tomorrow with frozen pitchs. How can any team expect to put a run of form together with all this stop start soccer,it surely dosnt give a true reflection of a team at the end of the season

Not a lot to get excited about with that draw. I suppose that both Kildimo Utd. and Athea Utd. would have to be a bit worried as St. Bens are flying in div 4 and Rockill Rovers are very good cup fighters. Newcastlewest B v Knockaderry could be interesting.
