I seen you mention this a few times, I think you just have a bad attitude tbh. Belgium is a great country. I should know I born and lived there.

Hi IrishUltra

I have a big long post to answer that. But unfortunatly I dont want to get kicked off this message board :D

Just one thing though: Belgium is a great what? 'Country' - Are you sure about that?

You didnt think would you escape did you??? :D

In summary - what have we learned.

Well.............. ....... ..... wait now...............................feck it.
Oh its not unanimous that we re-unite the two FAs then:p

There was me thinking that we could with a little difficulty we could pull it off;)

Belgium manager Advocaat rejects N. Ireland friendly
6 January 2010

Belgium manager Dick Advocaat (GSM) - Belgium manager Dick Advocaat has rejected the possibility of playing a friendly with Northern Ireland as the Dutchman supposedly wants tougher opposition.

The Belgian FA (KBVB) and Northern Ireland had been discussing a friendly while Advocaat was reportedly under the impression that it concerned Ireland Republic, rather than their northern neighbours.

"We spoke with Northern Ireland and there was the possibility to play a friendly," said KBVB Chairman Jean-Marie Philips.

"Our coach was then brought up to date, but communication went wrong. Advocaat thought we meant Ireland. When in an e-mail he read that it concerned Northern Ireland, he informed us that he preferred stronger opponents."

According to media reports, Belgium have already found a replacement and face Croatia in a March 3 encounter.

Perhaps you were thinking about the NKVD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NKVD)?

Wouldn't it be more apt if NEU played the NYPD.....

The ever loyal Belfast Telegraph kept a stolid demeanour while reporting the IFA account

cough cough

Irish FA president Raymond Kennedy said the Belgium plans collapsed because it wasn’t “financially viable” for the association

more coughing

“We pulled out of the Belgium friendly because the game was not financially viable for us. We were not happy with the conditions being offered,” said Kennedy.

The newspaper did add

however reports in the host country suggest Belgium boss Dick Advocaat pulled the plug on the fixture because he believed Republic of Ireland were the opponents!

Well, I certainly laughed at the back page headline in the Sunday Life (Biggest "local" Sunday paper in Northern Ireland) at the weekend.

"What a Dick!":D

Anyway, I hope we draw Belgium in the Euros - they're in the pot BELOW us.:)

Dick may well prove to be just the manager that the Belgians need.
Undoubtedly his ambition is certainly exemplified by his judicial preferred choice for better quality friendly opponents:)

In the UEFA 4th pot, they could well realise enough of their potential as a team to be a serious nuisance for the ambition of others.

Indeed, contrary to might you read from me, I would like them to do well. Dick is a top manager but I think he is already under a lot of strain.

Did you know that he is currently the manager of another team as well as being the manager of Belgium. Something like Gus Hiddink did with the Russian team and Chelsh!te

Not a good move IMO

Sounds a bit like the North team fielded by the great Lawrie McMenemy  in 1999

Maik Taylor (Born Germany)
Iain Jenkins (Born lancashire)
Jim Whitley (Born Zambia)
Kevin Horlock (Born Kent)
Mark Williams (Born Cheshire)
Jon McCarthy (Born Hartlepool)
Danny Sonner ( Born wigan)
James Quinn (Born Coventry)
Jeff Whitley (Born Zambia)
Ian Dowie (Born Hertfordshire)

Beggars !! ;)

And they're all completely useless with the exception of the German, Maik Taylor
