You've got to hand it to him, the lad knew 4 months ago that England would have a stinker and that there'd be talk of youth and overhauling in the aftermath. Precognition is a valuble asset in a footballer. Is there anyone who believes this guy would swap a solitary England cap for a career with Ireland?

How times have changed.
Imagine Jack Charlton reminising about how he approached a player to play for Ireland and he got his drip feed response via regular updates on twitter. OMG, LOL , Etc.
This lad could create a dangerous precedent if we're not careful and just leaves us open to plain ridicule as well.

I'm not generally too fussy about who plays for Ireland as long as they give their all, but it would be disgraceful if this guy declared for Ireland. I really can't see it happening though, it looks like he made up his mind who he wanted to play for a long time ago.

When talking of players in the aftermath of their collapse against Germany, Capello mentions Dawson, Zamora, Adam Johnson, Gibbs, Rodwell, Phil Jones, Wilshere, Walcott, Agbonlahor & Hargreaves as players he plans to look at if he continues in his job (which is likely). No mention of O'Hara or Cahill. He obviously doesn't rate either.

Whatever is happening to the two or three players Trap mentioned who are awaiting to swap their allegience to us, apparently awaitinig their irish passports, this seems to be going on for quite a few months, it has suddenly all gone quiet, anyone got any news or is it just plain nonsense...

I'd be interested to know myself. My bet (if any were to switch) would be Cox, O'Hara & Naughton.
I wouldnt expect any to sign up, think they wouldve been included in the Argie squad if they were.

Gary Cahill was the only outfield player not to be brought on tonight against Hungary.

An appearance tonight wouldn't have tied Cahill to England anyway as it wasn't a competitive fixture, but it doesn't really look likely that he'll ever set his attention on lining out for us, does it?

The influential Davies has also turned down Scotland. Bolton boss Owen Coyle said: 'It's the same with Gary Cahill. He could have 30 caps now for the Republic of Ireland because he's eligible to play for them and probably other home countries as well.
Cahill was in Capello's last squad but once again missed out on winning his first cap - something Coyle feels will come eventually.
'Gary Cahill believes and I believe that he is good enough to play for England.
'I am sure it will come and when it does he'll show everybody. He's just an outstanding player and I'm delighted to have him.'

“Kevin had the chance to play for Scotland but he always wanted to play for his country, England,” said Coyle.
“It’s the same with Gary Cahill. He could have 30 caps just now for the Republic of Ireland but he just wants to play for England, nothing else.
You have to respect Cahill for that, as opposed to certain others who are trying to keep all options open for themselves.
When i saw this thread had new posts, I thought someone was going to advocate the calling up of Kevin Nolan (not again!) after yesterdays performance.

from the mls: danny o rourke ciran o brian leighton o brian there are quite a few players in america that qualify for eire the fai should look over here i would say 15% of the mls can play for ireland thats a lot of players. the mls playes decent football not the hoofball played in the loi. and withthe success of the us national team in the wc it can sustain the national team. i feel the us are better than ireland now. let the mls develop the players for us then we approach them about playing for ireland. how bad can they be anyway>>

The US aren't so much better than us that their fringe players would be good enough for us. Besides, the US play a lot more games than we do so they tend to cap a lot more of their players. In any case, I don't think many Irish-Americans would choose us over the US, Joe Lapira being the truly bizarre exception.

Pity this guy isn't eligible for us. Decided not to represent Australia because he can't be arsed with the flying. He'll be very happy at a side like Scotland who never qualify for anything.
THE Socceroos appear certain to lose one of their brightest hopes - because no one from Football Federation Australia has bothered to contact him.
Only days after Australia's embarrassing 1-0 loss to Kuwait, the Socceroos face another bungle with Adelaide 17-year-old Bradden Inman revealing he is poised to choose Scotland as his national team.
The gun Newcastle United midfielder, a substitute for the Magpies' Premier League clash with Manchester City last month, is torn between loyalty to Australia and the opportunity to play with either Scotland or England.
His mother, Lorraine, was born in Scotland while the parents of his father were born in England, so he qualifies for all three nations.
Inman lived in Adelaide until he was 14 before shifting overseas on an under-15s scholarship with Newcastle.
He was called up to play for Scotland's under-19s national team 10 days ago ago and says while his childhood dream was to represent Australia, he had yet to hear anything from Socceroos scouts or officials.
"I did think if I can come over to Newcastle then the next step is to try to play for Australia," Inman said.
"But no one's been in contact with me or anything.
"My goals are playing for Newcastle's first team, and either playing for Scotland or Australia, maybe in a World Cup.
"At the minute playing for Scotland, it's a lot better.
"If you travel to Australia you've got to sit on a plane for 24 hours and you don't play matches that are as good.
"So, at the minute, it's Scotland."
Should Scotland select him as an under-21, it would lock Inman out of the Socceroos system.

In regards to these 'group of nobodies', many on the list would be an asset now - O' Hara is a class midfielder, while Clark and Cadogan are possible stars of the future. With a population of about 4 million, we need players who can add to our depth.

The fact that some have already played for other countries, others have declared they never want to play for us and some have shown nothing but contempt for the jersey wouldnt bother you?
