Still to hard to call.... anybody could still win it!

Well in the strict sense of the word obviously. As for the characteristics of a home game, large home following, no traveling to a game, familiar surroundings, small away crowd, this game will have all those.

Still an away game. :D

Waterford have a great chance to catch up now with their two games in hand. You'd swear no-one wanted to get promoted the way things have been going recently but if the Blaahs get their act together they are in with a real shout.

I still fancy Shels though.

Great game tonight, I can assure you that both teams wanted to win! Fingal dropping points in Monaghan leaves them needing to win all the rest of their games I'd say. Waterford have a decent chance but need to win tomorrow and get something out of their game against Shels on Tuesday.

A win tonight and a win on Tuesday see us joint top with UCD a Shels.

I think the ball would be in our court then because realistically we play all teams which we should be beating until UCD in the final game of the season.

Personally I think that game on November 7th will between UCD and ourselves decides who wins the league.

Getting exciting now though.

This is still anyone's title race. The four teams involved can all quite conceivably win it. It's always special when more than two teams can win a league coming into the final stretch, let alone four. I think it will take five successive wins to give us the title, anything less and I think it'll be someone else.

Im just hoping waterford dont take advantage of the slip ups today.

Anything other than a win against shels next week and its curtains for us I feel:(

Im guessing shels will bring about 1000 over, so it might be the biggest crowd of the first division this year. (Hopefully)

UCD V Waterford last match?

Both teams might need the win for the title come that day but i say it might be a draw so that might leave the door open for shels or Fingal to win it on the last day if all goes to plan before that. Exciting times :D

Waterford could be out of it by then and may even have a cup final to look forward. It's a great game for UCD.

Looks a fascinating finish to the season. After this week Shels should win their last 3 games, likewise Fingal should win the rest of their games after Friday. It seems to me that UCD are playing the best of the teams up there but need Shels to drop some points this week. It's also amazing how close goal difference is between the teams. As UCD have shown in recent weeks a couple of hammerings of teams and you can gain a lot.

Hopefully I'll make my first Division 1 game of the season on Friday night in Santry.

Aswell as the league table I've being looking at what teams can gain control of First place.
For a long time if Shelbourne win the rest of their games they win the Division.
Before Friday's 2-2 result at Tolka UCD could have won on goal difference if they won the rest of their matches.
And because of the Tolka result Waterford, for a short time, could have finished first on goal difference if they won their last seven games.
Its back again with Shelbourne in control and the three other clubs needing 'favours'.

Will be happy to see Shels back in the Prem next season, there fans and board have worked very hard with limited resources since 2007.

Tolka's the better of all the grounds in that Division aswell so will be most welcome back in Prem as far as im concerned.

After tonight its very clear cut for us. 5 wins and we go up. Unfortunatly I just cant see us getting that so I think we will need some help from elsewhere. Cant see Fingal winning it after tonight to be honest.

I think we have 12 points left to play for and need every one so no more draws or losses. We could still win it if ucd drop points but that a big if, and with waterford losing tonight we may have secured a play off spot against shels more likely which im sure we will win that one.

I think it's down to either us or Shels now. Can't see us not picking up nine points from our next three games which would mean Fingal and Waterford can not catch us. With Waterford having to play ourselves and Shels they could end up having a large say in who wins the division.

Us or shels? We are only 3 points behind shels with them having the waterford game to play still. If they dont get a result there then its a case of who drops how many points and ucd have to play waterford in the last game so its not over yet.

I doubt it will bring many fans back but it would be great for us considering the callibre of the teams in the top 4, to finish just outside it would be an achievement.

We have been steadily building from our Kildare County/Mervue positioned days a few years ago to knocking on play off spot doors. Hope it can continue!

Going by that table, waterford are very much in the race for a play off spot with us needing to not to drop any points if they dont for us not to lose out on a play off spot.

Talking to one of your player while out on the **** just before last Christmas and he was very confident that you lot would be a dark horse this season. After the poor start I thought it might have been a biased view but Mons have started performing to the level they expected to now and would be quite close to Waterford if it wasn't for the slow start. I hope you can push on next season as I like Monaghan as a club who do things the right way. :)

I can't see Fingal or Waterford challenging to win the division now. We need 8 points to guarantee second which we should manage and even if we don't, Waterford and Fingal look like dropping more points. Hopefully Waterford will have nothing to play for in the last game too.

Unfortunately I find this hard to argue against. Our result tonight felt like a loss. Personally I think it will be UCD to win it with us having to play Shels at tolka, in the playoff.

The run in looks like this now:

TBA:
Waterford v Shelbourne

Series 30:
Shelbourne v Athlone
Mervue v UCD

Series 31:
Finn Harps v Shelbourne
UCD v Longford

Series 32:
Shelbourne v Longford
Athlone v UCD

Series 33:
Kildare v Shelbourne
UCD v Waterford

I think Shels have a marginally tougher run in. Harps and Kildare are totally erratic, they could crumble or put up a good fight at home. I don't think Shels midweek game against Waterford will be tough as the Blues seem to have run out of steam and still have the cup to play in.

I'm going to tip Shels to win it. They should be able to negotiate their run in, they have the experience from last year and as it stands its in their hands. I'm at least pleased its become very likely we'll at least make the playoffs.

Looking at the remaining fixtures I like UCDs chances now . Shels were woeful last night and Quigley presented them with two goals .

Can't see why anyone wouldn't fancy Shels to be honest. We've both got a bunch of games against the lower teams in the league which we'd both be fancied to win. And we've both a game against Waterford which could go either way. Thankfully we can afford to drop a point more than UCD can from those. I know our game against Waterford is away but the RSC has never really been a fortress to us. Last night was the big one for us and we came out of it with a heroic result. Could go either way now but Shels have to be narrow favourites. Fingal and Waterford 99% out of it. Fancy Fingal to nick 3rd.

For me anyway the annoying thing is that its only provisional date set again. This is the second time it has been set for a date pending the result of other fixtures. It means we are still not sure of when we will be playing. The Harps thing shouldn't come into it.

Schumi
10/10/2009, 12:11 PM
Yeah, it's a bit strange that the date depends on Waterford's cup game not going to a replay. Maybe the thinking is that if it was on the next week and was postponed again, it wouldn't get played before the end of the season which would be really ridiculous.

We are down to ten men and our keeper gifts you s two goals and you call it heroic.:D Dude please.

A draw was a fair result in the end but there was nothing heroic about it.

I'm sure if yous had come from 2 nil down with 20 minutes left in a game as massive as that you'd be the exact same.

Id be delighted and relieved alright but i wouldnt be describing it as heroic if the other team was down to ten men and the keeper gifted us the goals. Lucky, fortuitist would be more like it.

Anyway as I said, the draw was probably a fair result, taking the game as a whole.

+1. Limerick in the second half of last season would have been challenging for the title if they had that level of performance all season.
