Yeah but Roy has already been over to England and failed to make the grade. Doyle had a completely different footballing development (much better, in my opinion).

Different player but Doyle was better.

Doyle was a more intelligent all round footballer. O'Donovan is a striker with pace.

Doyles attitude was much better, Roy has a nasty side to him that could hamper him, Doyle could be aggressive but never nasty.

Sunderland have many poor forwards but also have lots of them. I think he should have gone to Fulham I think a lot of City fans agree.

How long before he makes the Ireland squad?

I agree with what you say about Fulham. I reckon he would have had a better chance at nailing downa spot at Fulham moreso than Sunderland.
I think I should the parachute, because I'm great.

In fact, I think I should get both parachutes, in case one doesn't work.

Great forward in his time. Very difficult to mark as he used to make great runs. He still makes some of the runs but the confidence to shoot & score seems to have gone...

very true, pre injuries O'Flynn was magic

IMO Doyle has a far more balanced personality compared to O'Donovan (anyone thats read his Mirror colum would know) plus he has that nasty streak in him (I remember a very late and high challenge on Dan Connor last year)

That said I wish him the best of luck, hope he makes it, would be great pulicity for the league

btw expect him to be in the next ireland squad without question

In the Sunderland Echo that O'Donovan has signed. Keane has stated he'll go straight into the squad & ruled out any hope of him ruturning to Cork City.

BTW O'Donovan is better than Daryl Murphy and he seemed to be doing OK for himself over at Sunderland.

Either way good luck to the lad

Not official but being reported as around 500k up front rising to nearly 1 million with add ons i.e. international cap and 15 appearances.

Presume theres a sell on clause too

When was the last time an eL side transferred 2 players into Premiership first teams squads in 6 months?

Its s slow process but transfer fees rising gradually. If O'Donovan has even half the impact of Doyle the league will be flooded by Premiership scouts.

Come on pete. Bennett hasn't quite "made it" at Reading now, has he? Yes it takes time but he didn't go straight into the first team. Come to think of it, has he even played a senior game for them?
