Can't believe Cork though they could just get him back on loan straight away. They've officially taken overr from pats as the worst club in ireland for registering players....

Its easy for other clubs to criticise as I don't see Premiership clubs queuing up to take their players away.
O'Donovan knew clubs queuing up so him so he would not sign a new contract.
Quinn & Keane talk a PR game about respecting eL clubs but they seem to be two faced & just looking out for number one. I am not surprised by this but they can't say in public that they won't be exploiting eL clubs & then in private do the opposite.
I don't believe O'Donovan will be sold if it cannot be guaranteed he can play for Cork City for the remainder of the season.
Pigheadedness and financial suicide all mixed into one.
Lennox appears to generally be quite level headed financially (getting rid of Dolan being the prime example) so I'd be surprised if he took this option.
Unless O'Donovan knows the location of buried treasure, selling him now is surely the best option?
PS Of course Keane and Quinn are looking out for themselves. Their barstool extraordinaire investors clearly don't care about the EL.
The way I see it Cork have two options now: Cash in on O'Donovan now or wait til the end of the seson and take the €240k.
It's pretty clear the whole loan thing can't work out.

All eL fans know this but the Dodgy-Duo were last week spinning the media the line that they not here to exploit the eL
I know rules are rules but I thought me signed up the FAI League so could remove such idiotic rules. Its very common for large clubs (e.g. Real Madrid) to buy young players but loan them back to their existing club for 12 months & they don't have to wait for 2 months.
I will reserve judgement on Sunderland saga for now but signs not good. Our chairman apparently had a public spat at Sunderland yesterday for speaking to O'Donovan before they received permission from CCFC. This may be legal as he in last 6 months of his contract (not sure about this as I thought was different for u-23 players) but again sharp practice after comments last week.

Besides all the squabbling, what is the latest.
ROD staying or going???
Going. Deal to be done in the next 24-48 hours apparently.......
And City score a total of 6 goals for the rest of the season
He's staying
Full story on Redfm shortly.
Screw Sunderland and the money.
Delighted!
Great stuff.
Rico still making out that it will be a transfer and not a pre-contract.![]()
City definetly have the best bands playing at half-time.
O'Bama - "Eerah yeah, I'd say we can alright!"
G.O'Mahoney Trapattoni'll sort ém out!!
Yes which is confusing. Was in the Echo that Roy would not be leaving as a free agent in November.
Also now a statement on official site saying negotiations are ongoing.
Way too confusing....but he better actually be staying this time. Theres only so much of this is he/isnt he I can take
Red FM saying we'll hang onto his registration, while he's under Sunderland contract til the end of the season.
I'd say there's some sort of deal with Red FM whereby when there's a story out about City, a new titbit of info comes out every hour on the radio.

if we cant get roy back on loan, they can always give us someone else. murphy would be an adequate replacement, probably.

Roy O donovan initially signed a 6 mths contract in Feb on the day Rico arrived with Liam Murphy( They played a preseason match that day in Garryduff). When the 6mths contract was up ,he signed a 2 year contract, that means his contract is up in September. So does that mean he will join Sunderland in September but City have said they will hold on to his registration ,until the end of the season. The maximum compensation will be approx 220,000 euro. Can the club hold on to his registration until the end of the season ?Can he play for city after Sept if he does not sign again for city.He can train with Sunderland from sept and play from them when we pass over the registration,is this correct?
