Maybe Doyle could be heading for Manure? Old red nose is having problems finding a striker that he knows is capable of scoring at that level. Time is runing out for the Berba deal, Saha is injured again, other potential targets like Silva and Huntelaar look like dead deals. Young lads like Fraizer Campbell and Danny Welbeck are too unexperienced. A 7 or 8 million quid gamble on Doyle might not be a bad idea, especailly since he's come out and said that both he and Reading are ready for him to move.
I love Kevin Doyle. I hate Man United. Kevin Doyle is not good enough to play for Man United.

Agree, way off the class Man U would be looking to bring in.

Think he would do alright actally, but not on any planet will Doyle join Man Utd.

Villa would be a decent move for Doyle, im not sure he would start every game but he would certainly be on a par with Carew and maybe Agbonlahor too. there has been alot of talk of this transfer on this site but its the first Ive seen anything concrete from either party.
He will be bought as back up, just isn't as good as those two.
If Villa is his only option I think he would be better off playing at Reading than warming the bench. If he does well in the Championship (get 10-15 goals by Christmas) there'll be a good few Premiership teams after him.

His all-round game is far superior to Agbonlahor, but he has a standout attribute pace, whereas Doyle has none really.
However Carew is a good bit better than Doyle in everthing bar mobility.

That may be right, but pace really tells in the top flight. I'd not noticed so much before, but he looked terribly slow in the game against Columbia. Defenders were able to make up amazing ground to beat him to the ball, when initially it looked like there was no risk of him losing the race.

Hmm... I don't think he lacks too much in pace... I think he is getting stronger and better at holding the ball up and creating space for others... I was impressed with him yesterday and on Wednesday. I actually think he would start for Villa in the majority of games, with Agbonlahor.

I think Agbollahor's technical ability and finishing is superior to Doyle's.
Anyway, if he goes to Villa he would more than likely be competing with Carew as he is more like him than Agbonlahor.

in the post match interview on Sky Sports News, the Blackburn assistant coach said they hope to have Keith Andrews at the club by the end of the week

Steven Gerrard's cousin Anthony(Walsall), apparently set for Birmingham, played for the Ireland Under-18's, thought he was found to be ineligible.

He was, to the best of my knowledge. He thought his grandfather was from Ireland, and played a few friendly games for the U-18s but when he went to claim the passport, it turned out to be his great-grandfather

I hope for Ireland's and Cork's sake he gets a big money move to the premiership. I don't think he'd get into the Villa first team though.

I don't get why he needs to play in the EPL to benefit Ireland. Ireland play like how many games a year? 5....its more for personal reasons I want him to move.
I would much prefer Doyle to be playing for Ireland on the back of a hat-trick for Reading than on the bench coming on 'to change a game' for Aston Villa.

Not sure Doyle is up to it at the Premiership level. Just a personal observation as he lacks pace. Will be delighted to be proved wrong. A good season in the Championship might do him the world of good.

Ah Jesus..'lacks pace'...he's not Ronaldo circa 1998, but he's no slouch. His accelleration isn't so good, but he can definetly run. He has good intelligence...all be it he's no Riquelme...:D
He's easily...EASILY Premier League standard. 6 goals in a team that was struggling with really only Hunt and Shorey(he's overrated) creating with no penos...that is ok.

I agree, Im not convinced with Doyle, would like nothing more than to say he is a top premiership striker but im not sure. He is however capable of great goals like the one away in slovakia but not on a consistent basis and he has been on a downward spiral the last 12 months or so.

But he's not a 'top' English League striker, but he wouldn't look out of place at an Everton, Blackburn or Newcastle IMO.

Rumours today:
Doyle to Villa
Espanyol to make a bid for Finnan
I'm starting to think the Doyle to Villa move is on. He stated today that he didn't know whether he would be still at Reading after the deadline has passed which tells me that someone has been in contact and his agent and the two clubs are probably trying to iron out a last minute deal that suits all parties. Whether they will manage to do so before midnight tonight is another matter but I personally think Coppell should offload him if more than 7 million is being offered.
There's never this much smoke without a bit of fire but we'll see.

Walters to Stoke still being touted as a possibility on BBC gossip column. Would be interesting to see how he performs in the Premiership. Looked a quality player at Ipswich last season.

John O'Flynn to Barnet. On a free. With all due respect to Cork City, and their current financial problems, that really is disgraceful.

Up to the examiner to accept or reject. With the wage bill badly needing to be cut the whole squad is basically available on a free transfer.

Nothing got to do with examiner. He was a free agent (as were all their players) , and went for the wages.
Best of luck to him

Spurs rang Reading on Monday night regarding Doyle. But got no answer!! according to the Daily Mail. Smacks of desperation as they also tried to sign Heskey and Carlton Cole.

Fagan is with Glen Hoddle's Academy
I think Synott is still with Ipswich, but he was put on the transfer list, and had a trial at York City last season

Christy Fagan and James Simmonds are with the Glenn Hoddle academy.
Andrew Callaghan is playing with the Exeter City reserves.
Michael Synnott is training with Bohemians.
Lorcan Fitzgerald, Paul Cahillane, no idea, seem to have disapeared off the footballing radar.
I've never even heard of Eric Foley or Michael Daly.

Ipswich Town are keen to land Rebublic of Ireland international Darren O'Dea and rescue the 21-year-old from his Celtic nightmare. (The Scottish Daily Express)

The Celtic nightmare is Lee Naylor.
O'Dea's nightmare is to be regarded as an understudy to Naylor.

Watford are also interested in him apparently. The Star say he'll be allowed out on loan now. Interesting that Glenn Roeder said John Kennedy is the best centre half he has ever worked with. And Strachan loaned him out. He obviously rates Caldwell and McManus very highly so I don't think O'Dea not getting his game ahead of McManus means Strachan doesn't rate him much.

Interesting that O'Dea played beside Alex Bruce for the Forest game, and now he could be replacing him at Ipswich

He's back in Portlaoise playing gaelic football. But I also heard something linking him with UCD.
