Drumcondra 69er
01/08/2008, 2:25 PM
Are you "in the know" D69 or are you speculating????
I'm itching for him to step up, if only to get more exposure to him. I worry that I may have built him up too much in me head cos I've not seen that much of him.
But I do think at this stage given the amount of games he's played at that level that he's gotten all he's ever gonna get in terms of development, from Ipswich in the Championship.
He's from Drumcondra , I'd be good mates with his brother so have kept a close eye on his career since he went over to Ipswich but I wouldn't say I'm in the know as such! At present a lot of the whispers regarding Newcastle (where his Uncle Mick Martin is a scout), West Ham and Everton would appear to be just speculation. But I wouldn't expect to be the first person told if a move was in the offing! People forget he's still only 20, I think he's capable of the step up now but don't think another year at Ipswich would do his development any harm, he has plenty of time.

Yeah, it involves conquering a native people, and occupation by a foreign power
BTW you missed out on India, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa (among others) in your list
What does that have to do with his original point? English-speaking countries do have a lot in common well beyond a shared language. There is a shared culture there and I do think countries like England or Australia are less foreign to me than counteis like Japan or Chad.
And Garvan having another year at Ipswich seems sound enough to me.

Charlton interested in McShane according to eleven-a-side. I'd say that would be a good move for him at this stage, assuming they'd play him at centre-half and not right full.

Billy Dennehy is training with cork, clinton morrison was with coventry vut got injured so i'm not sure what the story is there and Kevin o'connor is injured but is being allowed train with wolves. You can add james simmonds, formerly off chelsea to that list.

reports on sunday morning linked Newcastle with a £10m move for Senderos, or £7m plus Shay Given.
Wenger has said he's not for sale, and he has heard nothing about a move to Newcastle: http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,11661_3906963,00.html
£3m for Given is a steal, considering he's probably got at least 5 years left in top flight football.

Keegan is a joke as a manager. How he keeps getting work I'll never know. He still hasn't a clue how to distinguish between a good defender and a donkey.

HAHA that would be the crime of the century if Wenger pulled that off, replacing a donkey with a quality keeper and 7mill on top of that for good measure, even Keegan isn't thick enough to go for that, shenanigans I say

Doyle is being targeted by Sunderland for a transfer before the beginning of the Premiership season according to some of today's tabloids. Roy Keane in link to Irish player shock.
In fairness it would be a good move for him and Ireland. He might get some good service from the likes of Reid as opposed to the scraps he had to feed off last season.

That's been doing the rounds since the start of the summer. With Jones out until late September/October I reckon it's just a case of tabloids putting 2 and 2 together and coming up with a space filler. Keane's already signed Diouf, and has Murphy, Chopra, Prica, O'Donovan, Connolly and Stokes on the books. He doesn't need another striker.

Think Prica was released.

Yep Prica was loaned back to his old club in Denmark. Sunderland do need another striker, of that list none are proven at permiership level. Murphy did OK but he's not going to hit double digits, neither is Chopra.

It's not about quantity, it's about quality. Doyle has had more success than any of Sunderland's current strikers. Obviously he had a poor season last year, but I think he'd walk into the starting lineup at Sunderland, and those are the players Roy is looking for.
That said, I agree that this could just be tabloid BS.
Roy O'Donovan has gone to Dundee United on loan for the season.

Ireland was late for the Man City v AC Milan game at the weekend. When he did arrive he was brought on in the 2nd half.
One piece of local rumour is that Ireland said he was told by one of the backroom staff (I forget his name) not to turn up as he had been sold to Sunderland. Hughes got on the blower to him and said "where the fcuk are you? get yer ar$e to the ground now!"

There's a few rumours going around message boards, another is that Hughes told the players on friday that if they were going to play, they'd get a text message. Ireland never got one so he never showed up. It was Joe Hart who rang him to tell him to show up

I thought Cork had negotiated a 30% sell on-clause, and that's why his initial fee was so low...

I remember Keith Andrews captaining Wolves as a 19-20 year old and Don Givens refused to pick him for the Irish U21 team because years earlier he had decllined an offer to join Arsenal whom Givens was Youth Team coach at the time. Injuries set this lad back years, would be delighted to see him get a big move.

I dont see what these english clubs see in cisse. He was a failure when he was last in england. If an irish player cannot at least contest a first team place with cisse then maybe they are not good enough.

Not a complete failure. He was there for 2 seasons and had that broken leg. Benitez played him on the wing a lot in the 2nd season and he still scored a few.
UEFA Super Cup: App. 0 (1) Gl 2
Premier League: App. 19 (14) Gl 9
English FA Cup: App. 3 (3) Gl 2
UEFA Champions League: App. 6 (7) Gl 6
Cisse has 40 odd caps for France. I don't think our 3rd or 4th choice striker needs to be better than him.

If your figures are correct they are better than I expected.
Mind you liverpool worked hard a moving him on and his present french club are trying to get him off the wage list.He was a speed merchant and not a good finisher(goals per chance). Is he still as fast after his injuries? How many goals has he scored for france.I will be shocked if he is a sucess at sunderland.Good luck to him but better luck to the Irish lads.

Diouf, Cisse and Healy added to the squad in the last few days how many strikers do they need and where will that leave Stokes and Murphy? At least Murphy can play on the left. Looks like Stokes should be loaned out to the Championship or the SPL again.

As did all day sessions down Wolverhampton's Emerald Club every Sunday.
Great potential, strong in the tackle with a good range of long & short passing but after becoming Wolves youngest ever captain let it all slip. Would be great to see him make it, but reckon that blooding Garvan, O Toole or McCarthy would be more beneficial.

Diouf was signed as an attacking right side player like he played at Bolton.
Still though, it doesn't bode well for Stoke?

Not sure it would be such a good move for Doyle. Who would he be replacing in the squad, Maloney? who has just gone back to Celtic. Carew and Agbonlahur (sp) are almost certain to start up front, IMO.

A few Irish lads play for them :)
It may be bad news for Stokes but tbh he's way too far down the pecking order for it to be a big concern to any Ireland fan.
Stokes really needs to go on loan to a championship to kick start his career again, it really hasnt happened for him at Sunderland.
Villa would be a decent move for Doyle, im not sure he would start every game but he would certainly be on a par with Carew and maybe Agbonlahor too. there has been alot of talk of this transfer on this site but its the first Ive seen anything concrete from either party.

Maybe Doyle could be heading for Manure? Old red nose is having problems finding a striker that he knows is capable of scoring at that level. Time is runing out for the Berba deal, Saha is injured again, other potential targets like Silva and Huntelaar look like dead deals. Young lads like Fraizer Campbell and Danny Welbeck are too unexperienced. A 7 or 8 million quid gamble on Doyle might not be a bad idea, especailly since he's come out and said that both he and Reading are ready for him to move.
