"when we get to Rome" in his post match interview, probably means sfa, but he did say it.IMO it can only be Rome,Milan Naples or Turin.Given that Trap is our manager, and that we will bring the biggest support, one of Italys 4 largest Stadia will surely host.Of the 4 mentioned,I would make Rome hot favourite.1st of January, is the latest they can inform FAI.

Rome flights are now on sale with Aer Lingus. Not worth the gamble though as they are over €400.

I hope it's not in Rome.....never been to Milan or Naples so I'm hoping the Italians decide to give it to one of those cities, despite the fact that they have Champions League final a weeks later.

The Scots could equally claim that. They were sent to Bari.
Nobody knows yet.
I tried to book Rome but wasn't paying €500 incl T&C. I got Milan for €150 instead. Milan would be perfect. Turin would also do nicely.
If it's Rome or worse still further south then it'll be back to the drawing board.

Turin. It Will NOT be Turin. Come on, Mate.

The fact Scotland were sent to Bari is what worries me. I reckon it could be somewhere godawful like Palermo

NI played a friendly in Palermo about 10 years ago. I don't think the Italian FA expected or got thousands of away fans, mind...

Palermo was great in 1990 however I don't want to go back there next April. It would be a nightmare trip.
So far in this campaign Italy have used Udine in the northeast and confirmed Lecce (Montenegro) in the southeast for games.
It is all guesswork at this stage.

It is all guesswork at this stage. That leaves us, Cyprus and Bulgaria. They're bound to use at least one big city and probably two. I'd say there's a high probability we'll be in Milan or Rome.

My thinking too (jinx included!).
Surely cant go too far wrong by booking milan now for relatively cheap, approx 150. Surely an internal flight could be got, for an overall cheaper price than direct to say Rome, if thats where it is confirmed.

Internal flights are far from cheap. We took an each way bet by booking flights to Bologna, roughly equidistant between Rome and Milan, 125 euro return.Train to Milan every 22 minutes, 28 euro single, 1 hour 45 mins.Turin is now ruled out ,as Del alpi is under reconstruction, Naples ain't gonna get it,so take your pick SAN SIRO or OLIMPICO.Given Milans greater capacity, 85000, as against 72000 in Rome,we would be entitled to 1300 extra tickets. Both Stadiums are fantastic, but for football, its hard to touch San Siro, no running track, and incredibly steep stands.Imagine, much smaller pitch than Croker, but 16000 more seats!:ball:

Italian trains are/were relatively cheap if that helps. Look on http://www.seat61.com for links to their website.
And by the time we play them, will Alitalia even still exist?
PS.Everyone's who's been says Milan's a kip. Especially for football!

Trains can be slow though. 8 hours it took me to get from Rimini to Rome last year, with the connecting train two hours late and losing another hour or so on the trip.

two cheap options: 1)ryanair via stansted or some other european airport (they fly all over italy)
or 2)fly anywhere in italy and take the train.... usually fast and reliable, especially between major cities.

ill be looking at flying to bologna on the monday, then getting the train to rome on the tuesday..as sub of the day said it is nice and central, so in the event it is in milan its just as easy to get a train!

I was in San Siro early last year for an Inter game and the atmosphere was incredible. Its quite an old stadium but i think its been refurbished somewhat since the recent trouble they had there. Upper tier is crazy steep and italians dont seem to believe in taking the 'seat' (very old style tubs) you're allocated, it was free for all. Would recommend it and wont mind going back there, great views from all parts of the stadium. Good transport links from the city centre as well so very easy to get to.

I think i have read here it is by the end of this year, however it is likely that it will be annouced earlier.
I wonder would it help if someone who could type Italian emails the Italian Football federation?

There is the email address of the press and public relations officer of the Italian Football Federation.
If you could email them and ask them when the venue for the Ireland game is to be announced, and relay the response here that would be great.
Thanks

Surely they will deal with an E-mail written in English (even by you stiffler) . Now Irish might present more problems for them

Ah yes but if you mention going to Rome/Paris other halfs immediately imagine romantic strolls in spring/summer/autumn (delete as necessary) sunshine and sitting in open air cafe enjoying the warm weather and a nice meal. Rather than sit in your hotel room and watch the rain pelting down a la Friday in Bratislava.

Never bring another half to a football match. Disaster, what happens if they get a taste for it and want to come all the time or even worse you break up and she likes it so much she goes independently of you and you see her at every Ireland match getting off with some lecherous Irish overweight drunk like me. Its not worth it I tell ya.

I think this one will be a good trip. I am delighted its a midweek fixture as that will cut down on the Sc*m that was in bratislavia. The crowd that was in mainz and Podgorica were well behaved and a pleasure to be with so maybe thats a good to thing to come out of the recession. :)

People actually asked me for photo's with them because they thought i looked like Rooney, They sang that to me to!!

When you say "We're going to Italy", approach the subject to pinky gently, and em tell her we don't know whereabouts yet.
Stonewall game for Milan/Rome, so might be a good idea to fly to Florence, (or in Ryanair speak, "Pisa") and travel on the train to the venue on the day. Pinky'll even see some of Italy on the way!! :D

Anyone know how long in advance do ryanair put their flights up for sale? Nothing yet up for the Italy game dates. Thinking i might take a chance on milan with Aer Lingus. 150 return.
