No announcement yet. They dont have to announce until three months before the game, so January at the latest. Probably Rome or Milan but they've played home games in other cities too so its hard to call.
Trap's from Milan, so that's unlikely, they'd give him a hero's welcome, you'd figure they would want a more intimidating atmosphere

It could be played in any one of Milan, Bari, Genoa, Palermo, Naples, Rome.
Milan or Bari are probably most likely.

Most Irish fans are betting on the tie being staged in Rome. Judging from the way all the Ibis Hotels there are already fully booked up for the 1st of April.

That's a bit of an outside bet IMO.

Niether Aer Lingus nor Ryanair have released their summer 2009 flights yet for Europe. So there is no way to book direct flights to italy unless you fly on the day of the Bulgaria game or before.

You can book through various carriers via various indirect routes - Lufthansa, BA, Czech airlines, Malev Swissair, al Italia to name a few. Seems to be just over €200 incl taxes and charges.

Cheers for the info. My only problem is I'm the one who books for 3 of us & at least if i get a return trip(as long as its Italian soil we'll make the match somehow) sorted no one will pull out due to indesicion of where the match is.

Then again it could be the same feeling that the Germany game was to be in Munich/Dortmund/Berlin - nobody saw Stuttgart on the horizon.

Having said that will probably book Rome one way and wait to see when venue is confirmed - it being a Wed game will only be out onTues, back onThur

I'm old enough to remember we were guaranteed to be playing in Milan/Turin for the 1990 WC and Boston was a nailed on cert for 1994.

It may well be Rome but I doubt if these guys know anymore than the rest of us.

The one plausible argument I've ehard for Rome is a dry run for the champions league final however they moved Scotland to Bari probably to discourage travelling support.

Rome is a good location to fly to irrespective of where it is in Italy, it's 4-5 hours by high speed train to Milan, Bari, less to Florence, Parma, Napoli, Genoa. Unless they move it to Palermo or Udine then flying into Rome should be ok if you allow yourself enough time.

Personally I'm going to wait and book it via Ryanair once the venue is confirmed. If it's Rome I'll book a flight to Pisa, Napoli or Ancona / Pescara if the Rome flights have sold out.

Am I right in saying you cannot even book a flight to Italy for those dates at the moment going direct at the moment. Ryanair and Aer Lingus have them blocked.

Doesn't make you very old - I remember that too!

Remember when the draw was definitely going to be changed if we were drawn with the North in the 94 qualifiers? And when we were definitely getting into Euro 92 after Yugoslavia were banned?

Not quite Ryanair only load up thier fares from Dublin generally 7 - 8 months ahead, they seem to laod up from uk further ahead for some unknow reason.

You can book Milan up to 31st March via UK, so April will probably be released in August.

Aerlingus are 300 days ahead, but they priced all German cities for the Euros at €250 + taxes for the week around the match, so expect the same from them.

Where did you get this?

Aer Lingus have not loaded up their summer schedules for mainland Europe. You cannot fly anywhere in mainland Europe at the time of the game.

You can fly to Frankfurt with Aer Lingus for 42 euro on March 28th but not afterwards yet.

Same story for Ryanair.

For the match in Stuttgart, when the Germans did not announce the venue after the fixtures meeting, same as Italy now.

Aer Lingus
Flights may be booked a maximum of 330 days from today (latest date Thu 04 Jun 2009)

Ba I think are 364 days ahead.

Ryanair are between 7 and 9 months depending on the mood they are in:D

For the German game Aer Lingus had fares to all German cities quoted at €250 plus for the week of the match until the venue was announced.

Aer Lingus do not have any flights after March 28th 2009 for sale though. You cannot book continental europe after that date.

The flights went up for Germany because Ray Treacy was outside the fixtures meeting and immediately block booked seats on the Aer Lingus flights. The prices then went up automatically as the cheaper seats were sold. I got Ryanair to Baden Baden that day for €120 incl t&c and got very lucky with the venue then.

I can't see the Italian flights going too mad (well maybe Rome) until the venue is confirmed.

I saw that, they only seem to have uk flights even though they say 330 days before, For Germany we booked Frankfurt hahn with ryanair and then changed to Baden Baden when the venue was announced, was about €140 inc change fees etc so not too bad.

You can also get a ferry from Montenegro to Italy for those who want to go back to Montenegro:D, Ryanair fly from Ilan to loads of bvenues within Italy, so will probably book that if we still dont know the venue when they are available.

Reminds me of watching the Yugoslavia game in 99 in Malta, when Starskey or was it Hutch:D scored a cracker of a winner. The game had been rearranged and we were already due to travel to malta and croatia for the double header, but in them days no way of geting back on a cheap flight.

More likely the cheap seats have all been bought up.

No not confirmed. However it does seem a good bet particularly the reckoning that they will use the Irish game as a dry run for the champions league final a month later.

You can get return flights from Dublin to Rome (Fiumicino) (fly out on the 31st March, return on the 2nd April) with SwissAir.com for 153.73.
There's a stopover in Zurich for a few hours with both flights, but it's a good deal.

Aye but the return leaves at 06.30 which is a bit early especially if the match isnt in Rome. Try booking it one way it only costs E909

Will probably wait until the venue is announced and should be able to get there in 2 flights

Hi guys,
I regularly go to home games but have not yet been on an away trip (bar going to the Nigeria friendly game at The Valley in 2004).
Am just wondering how are the tickets for away fans distributed?
Do you apply to the FAI for tickets or how does it work?
Cheers
