Anyone interested in playing a game against Italian fans for a local charity on Tuesday evening or Wednesday lunchtime pm me. Marco out of Joys Bar is interested in setting this up. He seems sound and is really looking forward to the weekend.

Got my letter about tickets.
Seeing as there not guaranteed would you advise booking flights as soon as possible or will I wait for ticket confirmation?

Always book flights first, tickets should be the last thing you ever worry about when it comes to away matches. Accomodation is going to be your hardest thing to find I rekcon. I usually go flights, hotel, tickets in that order and I think most experienced people would be the same.

What happens if I don't get my required tickets??

What happens if I don't get my required tickets??The FAI got a big allocation for this one. I'd be surprised if you were left short.

You will get a ticket. I think more experienced lads lik G Spain will tell you more but I can only think of Switzerland away 2003 and Belgium 97 was there problem getting tickets for an away match in recent memory.

For those wishing to travel from Rome to Bari with the train on the day of the match I have checked with the rail company here and they said it will cost 88 euro return for 1 person. If you can get a group to travel together then itll work out a bit cheaper (not a lot though but still worth a couple of beers to you). I checked it out for us and it costs 238 euro each way for a group of 6.

If you book through Trenitalia.com online and choose the Amica rather than the standard ticket you can save 20%. One way 2nd class Rome to Bari is €33.40. You can choose the ticketless option where they will send you conformation and a booking reference by e-mail. Amica tickets have certain restrictions but are ideal if you are booking a specific train. A limited number of Amica tickets are on sale each day. You will first need need to register with Trenitalia. They will then issue a password which will allow you to make the booking.

I booked very cheap flights from Dublin Airport to Pisa and then from Pisa to Bari all with Ryanair and found a lovely hotel 15km from the ground.
Here's hoping I get the tickets now!:D

Anybody going to Bari via Frankfurt Hahn on the 31st has been screwed by Ryanair. The 7 hour wait in the delightful airport became a -30 minute turnaround when they moved both flights. My delight at reading the first e-mail turned to horror on seeing their 2nd one.

My only real option now is to go to Hahn on the Monday and spend 24 hours there. Hopefully I'll find a German 2nd or 3rd division game in the Frankfurt region on the 30th.

you have to laugh at that. they can change their timetable at will but god forbid they would ever let the punter make changes to their flights without large cost

If you can get a refund Aer Lingus can get you into main frankfurt airport for 10.00

I was supposed to be flying from Dublin to Rome on Sunday 29th at 1230 and they changed the flight to 0655 which is a bit rough after a night out in Dublin after the Bulgaria match. Anyway because the flight change was more than a 2 hour difference I think they are obliged to offer a full refund...

"f you do not wish to accept your flight time change.

As your flight times have changed significantly (more than 2 hours before or after the original scheduled departure times), you may apply either for a Travel Credit for the unused flight sector(s) on your booking or a full refund of all monies paid."

Got stung on that aswell, booked the Aer Lingus flight for €5 + taxes. Might either rent a car or get a taxi between the two airports rather than relying on that Hahn bus service.

You're questioning the reliability of a German bus service? :D

They do things differently in Germany compared to Ireland!!

We got stung with that too. Flight change from 12.30pm to 6.55am. on the 29th of march. We are staying until saturday the 4th of april and our return flight was put back from 5pm until 9.30pm

We have cancelled our flights with ryanair and are getting a full refund. We have rebooked with Aer lingus and are travelling at a more civilised hour and the flights are cheaper too.:)

Lads in Stuttgart and Brat I camped and it was grand. I'm a straggler for this trip (as usual) and as four walls and a roof looks hard to come by (i've been searching last couple of hours) does anyone intend to camp it cos I can't find a campsite located within Bari?

I have a few mates camper vanning it down from Rome. Anywhere to park the thing safely? Anyone been there before?

A cheapish B&B would do either.....

I'm pretty sure we camped in Bari in 1990 during the WC. It was out in the countryside though and you needed a car. I will ask my partner in crime if he can remember.

With the way this credit crunch is going it may not be my last away trip in a tent.

Yeah, took me a while to find it.
Its at 00.15 but its only visible when you search for trains departing on 1/4/09.
It lists the train saying that departure is "next day", but for some reason it
doesnt appear when you search for trains departing on 2/4/09.
Ticket has the departure date correct though

Not sure how far stadium is from the station though!

Hopefully its all in order or else I'll be quite the fool !!!!

I saw that too but thought it would be tight with the match not over till 11. After reading the Tartan Army forum it seemed a nightmare getting back to the city centre after the match.

we were thinking of the boat to cherbourg and then all the way down...lmao

then looked up ryanair to bari but seems its booked out.

could anyone recommend anything else? closest airport to bari?

have a look at the ferry port in Bari - they ferry to Albania overnight (I did that for our game there) but they go to a few other ports. Perhaps you could get a cheap flight to one of them and get the ferry in to Bari?

Ryanair also fly to a couple of airports either side of Bari on that Coast.

Crazy drive and you'd be lucky to make it as we play Bulgaria on the saturday night. Sail sunday get in Monday lunchtime.

If you fly on the sunday or Monday there are still good options to Rome and elsewhere. Hahn - Bari and Malta - Bari on Ryanair are options too.

Abbey travel are advertising fairly regularly on newstalk, apparently they have already filled one plane and are now trying to fill another. Works out at circa 650 PLUS taxes........robbing basta*ds. Out tues back thurs.

I think its fair to say that on average most people are doing the bari trip for at worst half of what they're charging.

I'm going Ryanair Glasgow(prestwick)-Milan(Bergamo)-Bari. Flights are cheap, at reasonable times and get you there in about 8 hours total. You'd have to get to glasgow first but its an option. I paid about £140.

Bari looks like a bit of a hole, i've heard monopoli is a bit better but where do you think the drinking will be done after we sneak a 1-0? ;)
