As - I hope - the final installment in this story, I copied and pasted this from the Bohs MB: (Posted by Bionic Bohs)

I would like to thank everybody who helped with yesterday’s handover of the money collected to Kingsley Curry in the Tavern Bar in Derry. I would particularly like to thank PigBodine for organisational work, BARD for getting the Directors to support the initiative, LukeO and Neil for getting the bus of Bohs fans there, Gerry Houston for organising the Derry City fans, most of whom were visiting the Tavern Bar for the first time, and Dotsy for filming the event for a future BohsTV piece.

The event was a great success, and was a very emotional occasion with Mr Curry and his customers saying they would never have believed that there would be such a mix of people in their bar. There were fans and directors of both Bohemians and Derry City mixing with the usual customers of the bar, plus the Mayor of Derry Drew Thompson of the DUP, Councillor Sean Carr of the SDLP, and Dean William Morton.

On behalf of the Bohemians fans, we presented Mr Curry with a thousand euro cheque and a Bohemians jersey. We also gave him a letter from the Lord Mayor of Dublin, which I have copied below. On behalf of the club, Denis Maher presented Mr Curry with a club pennant and scarf, and invited him and his wife to be the guest of the club for our Cup Semi-Final against Cork next week. Mr Curry also gave us a china ornament with an imprint of the Guildhall of Derry, and he, his wife and his staff put on a very welcome sandwich buffet for everyone there.

We got a lot of direct media coverage yesterday, including live interviews on Radio Foyle and RTE Radio’s Drivetime programme, and a recorded piece for the BBC Northern Ireland Television News. We may of course get other coverage over the next few days. But more importantly, we brought together a group of people who would normally never have met, including for example one Republican who had not been in the Tavern bar for thirty years, and we made a lot of new friends for future visits to Derry.

We also heard first-hand from staff and customers who were present when the bar was attacked, and they certainly went through a very frightening experience to which they reacted courageously and which outraged people throughout the City. Thankfully, while the people of Derry will always remember the attack on the Tavern Bar as a violent crime on innocent people, they will now also be able to associate it with the positive goodwill generated by everybody involved yesterday.

Well done to everyone involved - a cracking thing to do. Rather than divide people, it seems the actions of those who trashed the bar has actually helped to inch people closer to together - north and south, and even within Derry itself.

I think I've only ever been in the Tavern once in my life - and that would've been about 17 years ago. But I'm gonna to pop in when I'm back at Christmas to have a wee nosey and see if they've got the Bohs penant up yet... :D

I hope the City fans there can keep a wee dialogue going with Mr Curry and help open a link for the club into the residents of the Fountain as well.

Great stuff to see all round.

Wouldnt walk past that place even if i was a champion power walker with a helmot and body armour, anyone who thinks any different is either not a realist or living in cloud cuckoo land. Try visiting outside of public relations hours without the media present !

I've walked past there literally dozens of times - including in much, much rougher years than these are.

No media present, no public relations, not even a tourist in sight. Not a hint of trouble nor even a sinister look neither.

Have you been in the bar yourself Dortie ?

Lets just say i wouldnt entertain anyone or any place that permits UDA/UFF flag waving bandsmen into their establishment every year, whether it be burn a tricolour night on July 12th or burn a resemblance of a traitor night during the month of December.

Not to mention a self proclaimed 'Loyalist' bar.

I was just trying to offer u a bit of sound advice ya arrogant f**ker!! When the term loyalist bar is used in this case, we aren't talking about constitutional loyalists! If those 4 bohs "fans" went to that place on a saturday afternoon they wouldnt make it through the door! But u go right ahead steve, lets hope you get what u need!!

So how do you know what it's like on a normal afternoon or evening outside of Parades times if you've never been there....?

Maybe it is just normally a bar with 5 fairly inocuous locals and the odd Canadian tourist....

The fact that it hosts and welcomes such punters twice a year is enough to tell me that the usual inocuous locals dont have a problem with sectarianism. Or do they drink somewhere else on those occasions, i think not.

What about the random Canadian tourists. Are they also now confirmed Orange bigots...?

Does that mean that everyone who drinks in the Bogside Inn (a much, much bigger bar) and the numerous other bars that those attending Republican rallies like the Easter Parade in the Bogside go to therefore all also have no problem with sectarianism...?

They used to always collect for the Republican prisoners (PDF) every Sunday on the grounds of my local church when I was a kid. Would that therefore mean that everyone who went to Pennyburn church also has no problem with sectarianism, for example...?

As Bob Dylan wrote "The times they are a'changing". It's usually best to at least try to keep up with change.

I am certain the tourists are not orange bigots, just in the wrong place at the wrong time unfortunately.

The Bogside Inn or Catholic Church has never labelled itself a 'Republican Establishment', not to mention publicly in the media, unlike our local 'Loyalist' establishment.

As for Bob Dylan, im sure many a fan was easily brainwashed with his ideology ! Thankfully i was never a fan.

He was saying that it's a loyalist bar which is 100% true! Of course there was going to be hardly anyone in it on a schoolnight!

I heard Mr Curry and some lady being interviewed on radio Foyle while on my way to work the morning after. The interview was obviously pre-recorded from the night before as it was 6 am.

The lady said in a confrontational manner understanding that this was radio folye; "This is a loyalist bar and will always be a loyalist bar and they'll never put us out." She didn't say protestant bar, she said loyalist. Therefore, it's a self proclaimed loyalist bar.

No offence lads - but I'll take note of the view of the numerous City fans who were in the Bar along with Bohs fans last week well before I'll take note of the view of a couple of City fans who've never been to the place, yet claim to know all about it, and are rather blinkered in their views.

Northern Ireland is changing. Keep up, or hang back in the 1690's along with that aul' geriatric you've mentioned who was interviewed on Radio Foyle.... :o

Listen Im from Derry and I don't talk rubbish for the sake of it. I'm being argued with by someone from Limerick and some ex-pat who thinks he's DCFC's public representative on foot.ie. The boh's and Derry supporters who went to the bar were there for a PR excercise and fair play to them. I personally don't care about the fact that it's a loyalist bar but you's are denying that it is which simply isn't true. I've said enough on this thread now.

Football pub louts lose their appeal

Tuesday, November 06, 2007
By George Jackson

Two of the four football supporters jailed last month when they admitted their involvement in disturbances at a bar in Derry failed yesterday in their appeal against sentencing.

Affirming the sentence imposed at the lower court by Resident Magistrate Barney McElholm on October 10, Judge Philip Babington yesterday described the appellants' actions as "deliberate and cowardly".

Dubliners Evan Kane, (20), from Upper Dorset Street and Gavin James Hanly, (22), a security company employee from McKee Park, were jailed for three months along with co-defendants Francis O'Reilly, (29), a local authority employee from Clonturk Park and Brian Shannon, (20), of Ventry Drive, Cabra.

All four admitted charges of riotous behaviour at the Tavern Bar, in the Loyalist Fountain Estate on October 9.

O'Reilly and Shannon decided not to appeal against the sentence and they're currently serving their sentences in prison.

All four had travelled to Derry for the League Cup final between Derry City and Bohemians. At the appeal hearing yesterday, defence barrister Gordon Talbot said the appellants Hanly and Kane, both of whom had clear criminal records, deeply regretted their actions.

Dismissing the appeal, Judge Babington said the appellants had caused several thousand pounds of criminal damage during an attack in which three people were injured and "must realise you just can't damage a public house in this way".

Hanly was then imprisoned in Maghaberry Prison and Kane placed in Hydebank Young Offender's Centre.

Surprising to have a 20 year old in young offenders centre? What kind of prison is Maghaberry? What would be the equivalent down here?

Surprised they still in prison. If something similar had happened in the Republic they would be released long ago.

So their Apopeal has back-fired. At least they didn't jump bail.

I don't know if they'll get half the scentence remitted or not, but they could be inside for Christmas now.
