:mad:Found a bug in the game which cost me relegation. I finished 2nd bottom in the Premier with Harps in 2010 season with Athlone finishing bottom and Dundalk just above me so Athlone were relegated automatically. I was in a play-off with Dundalk which i won 3-2 so i thought that i had stayed up... then i realised that it was me who had to play the promotion/relegation play-off against Bray who finished 2nd in the First Division and i lost this 3-2 after both legs. Really annoying. It should have been Dundalk playing them and not me!

Dundalk finally in a play-off where they lose, but get to stay up - priceless.

Should it not be the case that you don't play Dundalk but rather automatically play Bray?

I dont know how its going to work in real life in 2010. Does anybody know? In fm08 it has 10th automatically relegated and then 8th and 9th place teams play a one off match against each other. This also happens in the 1st division with the 2nd and 3rd placed teams. Then the loser of the 8th and 9th place team plays a 2 legged play-off against the winner of the 2nd and 3rd first division play-off.

In my case it was the winning team (Harps) of the 8th and 9th play-off playing against the other winners (Bray) instead of the losing (team) Dundalk playing them. Annoying!!

Derek, where to we get all these new jerseys? Is there a brand new eircom League facepack out yet?

This is a first for me, I fear I'd be shopping for a new computer had I been on the receiving end rather than the beneficiary.

The "Londonderry/Derry" thing is still there - Derry City are listed as playing at "The Brandywell, Londonderry"

Maybe thats because the official name of the city is Londonderry.

You dragged up a post from 3 months ago to make this ever so salient point?

Don't know why. There was something wrong with their website recently.

Anyway, try downloading the patch from here: http://community.sigames.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/521102691/m/3342088083

Actually managed to have two games of a three game ban taken back on appeal last night, first time I've ever seen that happen! :)

I remember, the first game with appeals, the first time I appealed, a ban was repelled.

Never, not once, happened since. :D

This is about the first one I've won out of about 500 appealed but I was still delighted with it. I was watching the key moments and Tommy Spurr was on a yellow when Darren Bent went past him and Tommy tugged his jersey and pulled him back. The ref deemed him to be the last man and gave him a straight red instead of a justified yellow but it was clear both Michael Ball and Ian Murray were covering. So i appealed when the red and was informed that it had been reduced to a yellow so Tommy only had to serve a one match suspension.

never works for myself either, I had that one occasion where the ban after review was extended from 3 to 5 games.... :(

I got a warning from the FA for appealing too many decisions!

Another annoying thing in this game (not just this edition either) is when you're a goal down and you decide to go all out attack with about 20 minutes to go. So you go 3-2-3-2, go all out attack, direct balls, closing down all over the pitch, never time waste and go for it, really go for it and what happens? Nothing, not a bloody incident in the remaining 20 minutes and you just watch the clock roll down to the final whistle.

I just came across something hilarious in FM07. One of the generated players at Den Bosch is called "Jerry Manders".

3-2-3-2 isn't all that "all out attack" in fairness, My personal formation at present with MK Dons is the one you have as all out attack, my all out attack would be 3-1-2-4 or a variation of that.

I was sickened recently when a young keeper I brought up from 15 to 22 with Dortmund fecked off on a free to FC Bayern.. 5 star rated too, Apparently my cup winning Dortmund team weren't "ambitious enough" for him.

Agreed, are we allowed mention some or is that cheating or can it be justified as a robust scouting system :)

I loaned a player from a premier team reserves, half way through a seaon and he has scored 21 goals never been booked and is now called the new Michael Owen :)

Pique if you can get him will turn your team around, Him and Anton Ferdinand are solid at the back.

As for a network game im well up for it, Needless to say Dundalk F.C would be taking.

Yes, obviously. Part of the game, and part of management in general, is taking risks on a player who looks like he could be decent, or unearthing a gem who mightn't have seemed obvious at the time. Seeing his potential rating out of 200 is one step up from editing his contract to sign for you.

Agree with this, have never understood why people go tampering with things like the genie scout and the editor in general. I know a guy who increased Limerick FC's attraction rate to that of Man Utd and went out and signed Patrick Berger, Chris Sutton and Henrik Larsson among others (this was a few seasons ago) and then claimed his achievements in taking Limerick to the Champions League second round in two years was valid as at least he hadn't signed Henry, Zidane, Buffon and that calibre of player?!

I remember some guy boasting on Football365 of taking a team like Forrest Green to successive promotions through to the Premier League and then of getting 3rd spot in his first season without cheating as well

Could have been one of those "Oh look I lost",*Finger accidentally slips whilst over the quit without saving button* replaying every match until a win although It'd probably take ages..

I'd say it was more a case of editing Forest Green's potential, having Newcastle buy a reserve keeper off of them for €30m every year, and replaying the odd game over

I've never brought a club from the very bottom to the Premier League before but in my current attempt I've gotten Newport County to the Championship from the Conference South. I only managed two back to back promotions though (winning the Conference and League 2). It took 11 seasons to go up 4 divisions. The Championship is impossible this year though.. I doubt I'll avoid relegation. I went up in the playoffs last year (from the last playoff spot) and I just don't have the quality to cut it at the higher level. Also my chairman accepts offers for my better players over my head. Very frustrating!

Has anybody here managed to actually do it (with no cheating obviously)?

jebus
15/07/2008, 11:57 AM
Never with the same club. I don't think it's possible, without cheating to take a club with a stadium capacity of 5k to the Premier League. Normally I start off in Conference South/North and take the team as far as I can go before leaving for a bigger club. Example in this game was,

took Cambridge City from Conference South to League 2 in 3 seasons, had them in 10th by Christmas and left to take over at Tranmere who were sitting 16th in League 2.

Finished 8th with Tranmere that season and went up the season after as runners up (Cambridge City got relegated:().

Took me two years to get Tranmere to the Championship, had the league won with 2 games left and quit to take over at Nottm Forest who were languishing a few points out of the relegation zone in the Championship. Kept them up (only had to win one out of two games mind, probably didn't even have to win that in the end) and within two season had Forest back in the Prem :)

Normally it takes me two years to get out of a division from taking over. One to clear out the deadwood and get my own squad together, and the other to go up. Often I've gone up in successive promotions, but mostly it would take two seasons. In Football Manager 2007 I took Wednesday from Legaue One to the Premiership with back to back league wins, had them in 8th in December of my first season in the Prem and they sacked me for falling out with 3 of my players! One of the Swedes I had brought in (can't remember his name) was mouthing about not getting a game, I told him to shut up and wait his turn, this upset Tommy Spurr (fellow reserve) and Branamir Kostadinov (star striker), and the chairman sacked me! Still raging about it!

Pah, that's nothing. I can normally get out of a division within 6 months of me taking over at a club.

Granted, I generally then get sacked for helping relegate them, but the principle should still not be sniffed at.

On the old CM4, I took Doncaster from the Conference to what's now the Championship in straight seasons without cheating.

I also took Yeovil from the Conference to what's now League One in three seasons.

Should I take 1 point from my last 3 games I'll have taken Kettering from Blue Square North to League 1 in 5 seasons.

Season 1: Won Blue Square North.
Season 2: Beaten Blue Square Premier Playoff Semi-finalists (penalties against Halifax).
Season 3: Won Blue Square Premier.
Season 4: Beaten League 2 Playoff finalists (Hammered 4-1 by Peterborough after a 1-0 home defeat against Northampton on the last day of the season saw me slide from 3rd to 5th).
Season 5: Short of a catastrophic collapse will go up between 1st and 3rd (probably 2nd).

Not a massive achievement in some ways because Kettering are definitely better than the 6th tier. if I kept them in the 3rd I'd be quite impressed with myself.

I left MK Dons after getting them promoted into League 1 for Dortmund, pushing for the Title now into my second season with the UEFA cup on the backburner after getting a tough draw with (Roma/Zeitnisburg(sp?)/Racing Club/Tottenham),now getting fierce abuse from the Fans for bringing in young potential players. No stop to it.
