Finnan is class - off the pitch and on it. Mark my words, nothing - absolutely nothing - will ever come of this ... and then the planks at the S*n scratch their heads wondering why they have still not recovered their pre-1989 sales levels!

that I wasn't blasting Stevie F. I'd be one of his fans persay, I was just posting it to let anyone who didn't know, know! My own opinion is its a load of tosh! Just look at thrash magazines like nuts and zoo for their interpretation of what the players say to refs or each other. Load of crap I imagine.

Best quote on that Cork City forum was that Fowler was a racist for his treatment of gay people. Absolute classic. Someone should show that guy the definition of racism.

according to the sun there was to seperate complaints, both by deaf people. He's alledged to have said :

"You black b*****d. Why don't you f*** off?". The second reported that Finnan said: "You f****** piece of black s***. F*** off."

cant see it meself

Is lip reading enough evidence? He could have been speaking Irish or French or some other language.

livehead1

well in a court of law, if evidence is provided by a respected person, eg. an expert then it is admissable, so i would suppose the answer its probably yes, it would be enough to get him done.

Liverpool have strenuously denied the allegation:

“We have had that video analysed by a lip-reader and there is absolutely no evidence to support this outrageous slur against our player.

"The only reason we know of it is through the media. The player vehemently denies these allegations. He has not used any such language.”

They have asked the media to drop the story, but their plea has fallen on......I have to stop myself here - can't finish that sentence:D

Finnan : "I was astonished when I heard of the accusations and I categorically deny them.

"It was disappointing to read the stories in the press. To suggest I would use racist language is very hurtful.

"I don't really feel I should have to come out and say I didn't say this or I didn't say that, but because of what has been said and written I think it's important I do respond and set the record straight. I didn't say what has been alleged. It's all lies

I don't think many people have that opinion. You might as well turn it around and say "A couple of deaf Manchester fans accused him so he must be guilty - Case Closed!"

well thats how i read these:

I really doubt Steve would say these alleged comments. Hes a top pro and a nice man.
Important to give him a big cheer tonight to show our support for him
Its probobly just tabloid crap

the tone on here is that not only didnt he do it, he couldnt have done it. if it was an english player who was 'a top pro and a nice man' or 'class on and off the pitch' would posters be quite so assertive.

'a top pro and a nice man','class on and off the pitch': lets ask the old man who he killed? his judgement was at fault at least once....

for the record, the story sounds highely unlikely. but christ lads, grow a brain.

well thats how i read these:
It's nothing to do with him being Irish. Actually, maybe being Irish does play a part as we know Finnan better. He is not the type that would say was he was accused of. Stephen Carr is Irish but I can guarantee you he wouldn't be getting the 'nice man' comments just because he's one of us.

Finnan knocked an old man down and stopped immediately. He did not drive off and that is as bad an accusation as the racist one. If it was a hit and run Finnan would be behind bars now.

my understanding is it want quite that simple, but if i am wrong i will gladfully retract that comment.

While Steve may be the sound bloke, diamond geezer we all hope he is, he may be a bit of an ill educated racist eegit too. The wearing of the green, unfortunately, is not a judge of character.

Just look at some of Kerrs high fiving acolytes.

Hit & Run what are you talking about Steve Finnan was never involved in a hit & run. He stopped at the time i think if you followed the case he was cleared of any wrong doing.

no, lads, hes guilty of racism cos he knocked down an old white fella, so he did after all say them things to the black patrice evra...some people never cease to amaze me with their lack of common sense... think things through before writing them??

why? my point stands. in the likely event he didn't racially abuse evera, its not because he is an irish internationalist.

its amazing the torrent of abuse people on this site get for simply questioning that an irish player may not be a model human being with no personal failings.

some of the arselicking on this site is cringeworthy

eirebhoy
04/03/2006, 8:19 PM
As I've already said, it has absolutely nothing to do with his nationality. Steve Finnan does not seem the type of person to racially abuse someone. I've read over the thread and all people are saying is Finnan seems like a gentleman who would not resort to this stuff. This is an Ireland forum so most people would know Finnan a little bit more than your average premiership player.

Shock ... Gasp ... Horror ... the story turns out to be a crock of ****e. Which is what most people on here said along. Still, it is very sad that rubbish like this is even being brought up (either because he's Irish or he plays for Liverpool or both).

Roverstilidie ... what did Finnan being involved in a 'hit and run' (which he wasn't!) have to do with the allegation of him being racist ... I don't see how the two are even remotely connected. I have been fortunate enough to meet Finnan a couple of times and he does do quite a bit for charity as well. He is a genuinely top guy.

What the f**k has his nationality got to do with it???? - anyway he was raised in England so being Irish would have nothing to do with it anyway

I said i think these accusations are probobly a load of bull - and i still stand by that - not because hes irish but because of his personality

He always has next year! Good to see bribing refs doesnt preclude you from winning the European Cup, I'm sure if Derry had done that they'd have been treated the same!

I don't think any ref was found guilty of fixing a match.

Good to know that being charged with causing death by dangerous driving doesn't preclude you from winning the European Cup either.

Anyone know if Finnan is Chelmsford's first European champion?
