on reflection i can see us being a lot better in Tallaght on Thursday and i saw enough to know these arent world beaters but they are decent enough
They won the last round at home 4 to 2 having gone 2 nil down and then won away as well so they arent mugs either
Hopefully we can do it on Thursday with Burke and hopefully Jack playing a part
That being said Santa Clara smashing Larne 3 nil by half time and then shuting the game down and playing it out doesnt fill me with confidence that we will be anything other then strong odds against if we make the PO round

They actually drew away 1-1. They were 1 down and Floriana really should have won the match.

Nothing to fear from them at home. They are beatable for sure.

Mea Culpa, i thought they won.
I do think we should beat them Thursday especially if Jack and Burke are available

Presume RTE aren't bothered their holes showing tomorrow night's game or are we in for a surprise?

Bit of an odd one that Shels owner Mickey O'Rourke didn’t get it on Premier Sports given he owns them too

Just shows you where RTE Sport is!
I don't expect Virgin to cover European club games with the league contract they have.
I did expect RTE to at least take these games especially as Shels & Rovers have a good chance of getting through to the league phase of the Conference competition.

It's as if the RTE Sports team don't acknowledge these games and have their back up after the FAI went to Virgin.

I'd love Shels to go through today, I'd still make them the underdogs, and any sort of draw to go through, or a narrow loss and win on penalties would be a massive achievement, but a part of me would also really enjoy the drama of a ECL playoff between Linfield again or the boyos from the Faroes ;)

Reckon Pat's and Besiktas will both rotate and it'll be a narrow defeat out there in a very low stakes game.

No idea what to make of Rovers, I'd assumed they'd go through relatively comfortably, I'd probably still make them slight favourites, I'm really interested in seeing how they measure up against a decent team from Portugal so would be disappointed for it not to happen. Need them distracted from the real task of stopping the runaway train that is Longford Town.

Rumour has it that Bradser is playing a weakened team against Balkini, mostly second choice lads and some young lads from the Academy , keeping the big guns in reserve for the cup match this weekend

When McBennet said “We’ll follow the champions” he must have been referring to the All Ireland Championships.

How naive of me to think that when they said the game would be on LOITV without mentioning extra payment, that there wouldn't be extra payment...
So if anyone has a stream do please share

Fruk was suspended for the first game, but you can see he's their best player by far.
Shels need to get to half time without conceeding another. I presume Boyd is out injured?

Being kept out of the national side by Modric, supposedly the new Modric. At least thats what I managed to make sense of reading google translate after his name kept cropping up on Croat commentary last week.

I don't think it was a penalty. But I also think the disallowed goal versus Linfield was a joke.

I think we can say VAR is crap now again... :p

I'd say this'll hurt for Shels, but they're coming into the Linfield/Vikingur game at a good level I guess.

That's the difference between lads earning 500 quid a week and lads earning 5 grand a week (or more). Big gulf in class there tonight in Tolka.

That’s a killer for Shels. They played so well over the 2 legs. But the Croats go through thanks to a couple of outstanding strikes and a horrendous keeper blunder in the first leg. Fine margins.

I hope Shels go on and win the CL PO or else they will really regret tonight. Probably be against Linfield but they were incredibly wasteful last week in the 1st leg.

Nesta99
12/08/2025, 8:53 PM
That last goal....Shels nicely composed, a little tight but moving it out of trouble until a fearful punt of possession away not even out of the half and then acres of space to run in to before a nothing pass, probably a lucky bounce and slid past the keeper. Very LoI and disappointing in the end, provided hope and then gone in a flash. If it had finished 0-2 you'd have taken it on the chin considering the goals. It was a soft penalty but I do think there was a jersey pull back so still a penalty. Should we be disappointed for being so close against Croat champions? Shels are still a bit green in Europe, need to develop their dark arts more though Rijeka werent too cynical until cramp kicked in.... To miss out on groups would still be a huge missed opportunity considering Shels ability.

I think you're vastly underestimating how much some of that Shels squad earn. The likes of Mipo and Wood aren't playing over here for less than four figures.

Nesta99
12/08/2025, 11:14 PM
Yeah but I doubt they'd be on 1/4 of a mil a year. Only Dundalk would have paid that sort of money.......

Sure breidablik get called part timers on here and they spend 4 million on wages.

Rovers performance in that tie is never going to get better regardless!

€50k pa is the average player wage in Iceland. €42k in Ireland, I'd say that average is heavily weighted toward Derry and Rovers albeit everyone has the 4th highest wages.

There are at least three players at shels on three grand a week, they out bid rovers for one player.
Their wage bill is massive.

You don't do that paying guys €500 a week

I was generalizing. Mipo and Wood are the only two players that come close to deserving 3 grand a week. Thats insane money for an LOI player.

Exactly. That guy that scored the 30 yarder...he's earning that, easily. At least. Levels.
