Maybe, it's the right time to break Watchloi and LOITV into separate threads. Have just heard a radio ad that LOITV will be available at €79 for the season although I think that price figure was already well known to Division I clubs. Still no movement as yet from the LOITV website and there's no sign-up mechanism yet that I can see.

Heard it on 2fm myself. Guessing the €79 would be for the 2nd half of the season.

Thanks, Ger

My impression, which could easily be wrong due to the lack of published details, is that LOITV is for Division 1 and WNL games only. I'm assuming that the €79 covers the whole season. All should become clear shortly!

Think the plan is that premier division moves to loitv for the 2nd half of the season

Yeah, afaik FD clubs are expecting LOITV to be live from this weekend's matches. Makes no sense to be advertising the product otherwise - sure we could have fans back at games in the second half of the season. (Unlikely I think, but possible)

€79 seems really expensive to me, considering that most LOI fans have just paid €59 euro for WatchLOI (which has been very poor production/quality). LOITV is probably going to be worse.

(Its also only for one game a week, because all the games are on the same time... also onthe same time as a WatchLOI game)

I agree €79 is a lot for watching the first division which has consistently low crowds and WNL where there is almost zero crowds .
I would say numbers will be miniscule.
Cork fans might bump it a bit.

Interestingly, the second time I heard the advertisement for Watchloi/Loitv on Newstalk yesterday (Sunday), any reference to Loitv had been cut. Like some of the posters above, I agree that it seems very late to be having any sort of meaningful launch at this stage.

Edit: I see Loitv has now launched!

Is it just me or does it lack the ability to subscribe? It's prompting me for a redeem code but one was never e-mailed to me and the button to have one sent doesn't work?

Still just a holding site as far as I can see.

Where are you getting the option to even try join?

There's now a splash page with a "login" button on the top right. I registered an account but don't seem to be able to subscribe to anything. It looks like it failed to send me a code to my e-mail (not in spam)? Someone on the CCFC forum seems to have successfully bought a package.

If we thought WatchLOI was bad it looks like we're in for fun with LOITV.

Highlights of Rovers-Pats last week from the Pixellot camera below. The camera is zoomed out so far from the action and at one stage Graham Burke was on the edge of the area having a shot and you couldn’t even see the goalposts. I can see many a fan shouting 'HURRY UP AND MOVE' at the camera rather than the players over the season

There are highlights of the Sligo Dundalk game here and it looks like these might be using the Pixellot camera aswell. It’s a very wide angle and at a couple of stages it was hard to see the players on the far side of the pitch. It’s going to be very frustrating watching games on these cameras.

Thanks this worked eventually for me, I didn't need a code after all probably only need a code to watch a game, fingers crossed but I'm just going to pay for individual games for now and see how it goes.
Does anybody know if it can be cast to tv?

I must have low standards or something cos the camera looked ok to me on the examples posted earlier. It's a bit odd that it will likely always pan away from goal celebrations and it wasn't perfect for some other bits. But you could still keep up with the game and see what's going on. You don't always see everything at a game anyway. I know games on telly will usually have different angles so that nothing is missed but this is not telly. In future (when fans are back) if I'm able to watch an away game that I just cant get to or a game not involving Bohs that I'd like to have a look at, I'd be more than happy to watch it like that.

The watch now service is working out at a euro a game.If it was more i would get the guards out to RTÉ cos it's poor produce but it's still only a €uro per game and what you're paying for is what you're getting. 1 euro per game folks!

I was sent a code with my season ticket and got logged in. You have to select your favourite club which means the revenue goes to that club but I found you couldn't do that on mo9bile, had to be done on desktop. Other than that, all set!

Will LOITV be available to people who are abroad ? I’m not sure about this season but last year watchloi had a separate package for them.

Yes, well at least I'm signed up from the States.

I think the separate package last year was due to some of the games being shown on tv and their rights within Ireland vs rest of world.

Don't know if its an issue with Turners Cross or loi tv but the picture quality is poor and the feed keeps dropping and needs to be refreshed. Infuriating. Very glad I only paid for a single game.

UCD v Athlone stream is very good. No complaints except it's 30 seconds behind (like all games) so i got a ping of our goal before it happened on screen

Galway Shels coverage was fine. Camera seemed to get a bit confused sometimes when the ball was out of play. Not great for corners, camera backs right out looking for the ball and then zooms back in quickly when corner is taken. Bit disorientating but a small quibble. Compared to WatchLOI, it's nice to have the score and time displayed on screen and caption updates for substitutions and cards.

City v Cobh had issues throughout the first half. Second half was better, but I guess that was due to people moving over to the youtube stream that was offered as a workaround. Looked like capacity issues with LOITV to me - offload some of the traffic to youtube and it works better. Maybe either the LOITV server or its connection is underdimensioned.

El-Pietro
26/03/2021, 10:28 PM
If capacity is an issue then I'd imagine its going to be a problem for most of our games. Wed probably have more subscribers than other first division clubs.
Hopefully its solved but I'm very glad I only paid for a single game pass.

The website was chugging a bit when I went to get into the stream of UCD v Athlone at 7:44 but once in the stream was clear and stable. I can only remember the camera falling totally behind play once or twice. I think it's a decent product for what it is at about €2.90 per game assuming you only watch your own team.

Has the camera and streaming infrastructure been purchased by the clubs or the league or is it just a rented service?

Have to say I thought the coverage of the Galway game was excellent. Shame Vinny Flaherty’s co commentators mic didn’t work

Bucket
27/03/2021, 12:58 PM
How can match coverage be described as excellent when there's no replays and problems with the audio?

pineapple stu
27/03/2021, 1:27 PM
LoITV has the option for replays - or at least, you can just rewind the video and watch again.

Audio problems are just first-day teething issues and easily resolved.

Overall I thought it was quite decent. Nothing to being at the match of course, but it could well be a way to watch games you can't get to in the future.

27/03/2021, 1:33 PM
Them cameras have been in place for weeks and there were opportunities to test them during pre-season friendlies. It's just a typical inferior FAI product.

pineapple stu
27/03/2021, 1:51 PM
Well it's not an FAI product at all, so I think that's harsh.

The cameras work as well as the tech will allow. It's one club saying that the audio on one mic didn't work. And Cork's demand seems to have broken the bandwidth. That needs to be kept in perspective.

Bucket
27/03/2021, 2:14 PM
It was commissioned by the League of Ireland, a branch of the FAI, so as long as they're charging for it, it's their product and it's very FAIish.
If it can't handle the demand for a Cork City First Division game, what's it going to be like for a Bohs v Rovers match?

pineapple stu
27/03/2021, 2:20 PM
Why would it be used for a Bohs v Rovers game? Are ye both planning on getting relegated?

It's new technology being rolled out during covid, so I don't think there's a particular need to be getting too het up over teething issues tbh.

D24Saint
27/03/2021, 2:20 PM
As a gesture of goodwill they should give a voucher for a game to those that bought the Cork game. A person I know missed the majority of the first half with the issues.

Bucket
27/03/2021, 2:45 PM
I used Bohs v Rovers as an example because I had heard that Premier matches are moving to LOITV for the second half of the season.
