We are hoping that a lot of the lads we have signed although not household names will come good.
That plus some of the expected UK lads we hope will see us out of trouble.
If that doesn't work we could find trouble but we are where we are so we'll just have to deal with it.
Its no ones fault but our own.
We have a young & energetic Board of Management & we feel we are on the right track.
They are highly qualified in their own fields so we are unlikely to make the same mistakes again.

The Cork squad does look very weak to me, with the huge turnover seems those incoming will struggle as won’t have the experience of playing at decent PD level. I wouldn’t see them finishing any higher than 8th again, as Waterford and also Shels look a lot stronger.
It reminds me of the squad that McCaffrey assembled for Dundalk in 2012, that ended up in relegation play-off win, but we should have been auto – relegated, we were that bad, only due to Mons pulling out we didn’t. There were some awful hammerings that season, this could be a tough year ahead for Cork, seems a long way now from the 2017 double winning season, things change very quickly.

So basically you’re saying you have no hope at all?
If that's a pop at Byrne, I think he's a superb player. Do we have a hope of winning something? No. Do we have a chance of consolidating and building? Absolutely, but there's a lot of unknowns. There's shades of Bohs from a couple of seasons ago, but also Dundalk 2012 as mentioned.

No nothing against him as a player, it’s just a massive stretch to expect a young lad coming out of 19s football to become one of the best players in the league but by all means if he’s anywhere close to being in the team of the season I’ll hold my hands up

Raff Cretaro back with Harps

Fenn's football could be boom or bust, the young lads coming through will prob like the football but a few bad results, confidence collapses & they play with fear. Bohs had/have Long & Croly to keep them organised as young lads came through the last few seasons, I'm not sure that is Fenn's strength

Nice to keep Raff for another season, great professional

Alex Byrne will be 21 this summer. He graduated from U19 football a couple of years back, made his debut back in 2017 but injuries have halted his progress. I don't expect him to be in the team of the season but he could still be a key performer for us.
I am worried about our prospects in general though.

With no obvious whipping boys like in previous seasons it will be nervy for anyone who makes a slow start. Harps are battle hardened, Shels have a decent squad and on the upward trend confidence wise. Will be a worry for Waterford imo, Sligo have beaten the home hoodoo are in good shape. Derry massively better since Devine came back. Cork could be in a battle unless Fenn has unearthed some gems and really is a top manager in the making. Its not that Cork are poor as much as there just seems to be more about teams that have struggled last season and the promoted team on paper looks better equiped to consolidate. 2 from the 3 of Waterford, Harps and Cork are in for a tough year. Maybe a league restructure for 2021 might save someone...

Waterford have signed some interesting players for them but only 6/7 first teamers with a few kids thrown in, how they fill out the rest of their squad will give a big indication of their season ahead. Sligo probably will be ok but they need Murray to avoid getting suspended if they are to replace Parkes goals.

Town have signed Joe Gorman, most recently with Cliftonville but formerly of Drogs and Bray apparently. And several other clubs in Scotland and England, he seems to have had a good few clubs for a 25 year old.

For a moment I thought it was Joe Gormley, what a signing that could have been - Rovers would have done their nut if they'd missed out there!!

Joe the goal .....sigh 😍
Is there much that say Joe would score at anything like the same rate in the LOI?
Michael McCrudden for example was that leagues top scorer before signing for Derry and with the caveat that he had a few months out injured shortly after signing he simply never looked good enough. Similarly Darren McCauley I believe considered one of the best players in the IL for Coleraine was absolutely nowhere near good enough.
I am genuinely asking btw, I’ve probably never actually seen the man play.
You might not win anything with kids but you have to survive within your financial resources and hopefully some of them will come through. Wish them all the best.

I don't know what he has planned for his future. It is said that he is going to do a law degree but have no idea if he plans to do anything in football.

Joe 'The Goal' Gormley in the news again as Cliftonville reject a reported stg£60k (€71k) offer from Glentoran. A similar offer is reported for Adam Lecky of Ballymena
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/51223724
Could Shamrock Rovers dive in with a bigger offer for either player to try to resolve their hat stand dilemma?
Jeepers. That's some serious money to be splashing on a player.

Can't see him ever leaving Cliftonville at this stage

Apparently (hell of a word when it comes to transfer talk) they’ve turned down an offer of ~60k from Glentoran. Was told by same individual his (very substantial) wages or a significant % of aren’t actually covered by Cliftonville themselves.
This could all be absolute nonsense btw. I’ve notice a poster with a Cliftonville badge on here before so perhaps they would know better.

I've noticed him too. I have no doubt he knows, and no doubt he would say very little about the club's internal arrangements.
Fair enough, not particularly bothered either way just so happened that someone in work had told me all that about Gormley today.
Anyway Derry have signed Norwegian striker Tim Nilsen. Scored two against Harps the other night wasn’t at the game so don’t know how good or otherwise he looked.
Hmm, I think that reads in a different tone to how it sounded in my head! Have known Mr Parker a while and would be fairly confident he has an inside track on things.

Apologies but you’ve lost me here.
Also just realised someone had already posted about Glentoran’s bid so that post can essentially be scratched, teach me to read more than just the last page of a thread.

That article says that Joe rejected the move too. Hardly surprising- a look at his Twitter would imply that he wouldn't be too keen on moving to an east Belfast side and he wasn't too keen on professional football when he packed it in at Peterborough. Would be interesting to see if Rovers tempted him though.

Rovers did try to sign him and he signed a longer contract with his home town club. U could say it was a la k of ambition not to want to go full time but when u look at all the players that leave their home town to go away and end up miserable maybe he is just a guy who is happy to play in front of his friends and family every weekend.
Ridiculous comparison I know but was watching a sky sports show recently about Stephen Gerard and he said when he didn't move to Chelsea and sacrificed winning the leagues etc the deciding factor was his dad telling him he even if he won leagues with Chelsea it wouldn't mean as much. People accused him of a lack of ambition to go and win things. Not equating the two players but the hometown is a draw for some

He tried his hand in England, didn’t like it and fairly soon rejoined Cliftonville by choice.. He has already learned things aren’t always greener on the other side, hence why he signed a long term contract when Rovers tried signing him. He is happy and playing his best football at the club he loves. If anything he should be commended for his loyalty rather then giving stick over ambition. There isn’t a team on the island he wouldn’t start for

We've signed Kyron Stabana from Wimbledon on loan. Sounds like one or two more loans to come in from the UK over the next couple of weeks. Hard to know what the quality will be. Waterford had great success with loan moves in 2018, we had far less with our loans in 2019.

Unusual situation at top of IL this season with 4 in with a real chance of winning it (5 if Clifftonville make up ground) but more importantly is the CL league spot.
Also note this season IL are reduced to 3 teams in Europe, so the chase is on not to miss out, 60k outlay small beer if a CL spot can be secured, even the lesser prize of 250k for EL qualifcation.

Thats not at all a bad signing. He needs game time, bags of potential, needs some belief in his ability - hopefully more Richie Towell than Conor Clifford.

Limerick/Waterford fans on here, what are Lee Devitt, Adam Foley and Darryl Walsh like? Only saw them in our friendly with Pat’s so not a lot to judge. Going off their past, Walsh in particular could stand out. On paper I’d say this is our best squad since 2016.

AFAIK players can still leave clubs in the UK but not sign for them.
