According to Jamie McDonagh it's between ourselves and Derry for where he'll end up next season, though working off what he said he seems to just be using us as leverage to get a better offer off Derry. Would be a good signing all the same.

We're also getting linked to Shane Griffin which I'm a little less enthused by.

Is he any use?
Split opinions when he was at Bray. Good on the ball if he has time, but a bit too light for a centre midfielder and pulls out of a lot of tackles

You won't find many City fans sad to see him go. I'm sure Liam Buckley will find a player in there somewhere but we haven't seen it consistently enough for some time now.

Come on now EL P, don't be dressing this down, this is a significant loss to your m/f, and a decent move by Sligo, I think you'll find they are very happy with this.

It is pity though on the losses figures, a lot of that is down to the large decrease in your attendances, from a very healthy and league best avg of around 4,500, this must have dropped by around 2,000, if you apply even a tenner a head, that’s a drop of around 360K in a year alone over 18 home games.

I think DFC will show / report a loss this year, but that will be offset by the monies P6 are putting in, they’ll certainly be looking for more than 1.1M from Europe next year, they’ll get a better chance to earn this with obviously better quality players coming in, word is we are after a striker from England, no details on where or who this is mind.

Based on his recent performances many city fans were screaming for him to leave. He was very poor in 2019 (not the only one mind). There is near unanimous agreement that we are glad to see the back of him. I'm not saying thats entirely logical, or fair to Garry, and I think a change of scenery may well do him good, but if he plays like he did in recent seasons then Sligo fans will not be happy with this signing.

That's a little disrespectable to be fair, 'glad to see the back of him' the guy won a double two years ago.

I'd be pointing the finger at how he was coached or the overall attitude within training if I was a Cork fan, said it before many times, just what did the coaching staff do last year, this is a club paying decent wages over 52 weeks and morning training. It would appear zero motivation from the staff.

Gary Buckley seems to go through phases.
He might be outstanding for a few games & even score in them. His form will then drop off completely & he will look like he doesn't care. It isn't just last season.
He's always been like that throughout his career so maybe a change of scenery will work for him in the short term but it won't last.

But we'll see how it works out for him in the Showgrounds.

Is he any use?
No. Pretty much Hulsey said in his post but no split opinions about him from Shels fans and he was playing in a lower division then when he was at Bray. Though if there was one manager currently in the league who may have a chance to get the best out of him it would be Buckley

Thats a hell of a signing for Larne this. I would expect Larne to make a go of it for the rest of this season!

Started well for us but his form dropped off a bit, once SOD came in he never got much of a go and despite having another year left on his contract he was told he wasn't in his plans. Seems to be a mentality/discipline thing with him from what's been said, though saying that I can imagine this massively blowing up in our face and him banging in 25 next season.

If S O D is fecking him out over character issues I wouldn't worry to much. Hard work beats talent 95% of the time

Must be a lot of “character issues” att Pats so given their strike rate. You must be delighted he turned down shams 😎

Isn’t “character issues” the reason Jack Byrne was run out of England and Scotland ?

Agreed, with the exception of some of the top clubs the British club system of developing young talent seems to be to brutalise and humiliate them and if they emerge from that they have " character" .
Mc Auley is still 19? Great opportunity for him. I heard his options were between us and his home town club Rovers all right. More prospect of first team football at Bohs, would be the deciding factor I suppose.

A lot of pace in that improved Bohs squad.

If Long can get the best out of him then Bohs have added another good young player to the squad.

He has bags of pace a decent eye for goal but will be offside more often than not.
A little bit brain dead from a football point of view decision making etc which was frustrating as there is a real player in there.
Potentially a 20 goal a season man IF he can fulfill that potential.

I've seen Ali Regbha and Ryan Swan play for Bohs last year, I'm prepared for anything :D

Just don't get how players can be offside so much. Fair enough, play on the shoulder of the last man if you want but often with the aforementioned two it's sheer laziness to get back in to position and a failure to look across the line and check your run properly

What i meant was he is supposed to be talented but if he is being fecked out because he isn't hardworking then Pats have nothing to worry about in terms of him coming back and haunting them.
It is very unusual for a player who doesn't work hard to be a success , hence SOD clearing out Pats of players who don't subscribe to his definition of Professionalism is the right thing IMO.

Did you agree with the various managers that got rid of Jack Byrne ? Just wondering do the same rules apply to all players.

Personally I would take Longs record of developing players over the (alleged) view of a rookie manager anytime. But we will see.

I honestly think the truth is somewhere in the middle. I'm surprised how excited Bohs fans are getting about this kid (especially given he is a self-confessed "big Rovers fan" :D) but I also don't think he is a write off because O'Donnell got rid of him.

I'm glad Rovers didn't take him, but Bohs seems a perfect fit for both parties (other than him being a big Rovers fan :D). Do think the reaction from some Bohs fans seems a bit optimistic given the evidence so far and his mediocre showing at the Rovers fans five-a-side!

Jaysus calm down marino ,
If Long can turn him around thats great for the kid but it doesn't mean SOD is wrong to move him and all the others on now if they dont fit with what SOD wants now.
Maybe the wake up call will hit home with a few of these players. sometimes a kick up the ass is a good thing

Thats a harsh judgement , the Rovers fans 5 a side was a tough gig :)

I must be looking at it differently then , cos I thought this guy would end up at Rovers and a bit disappointed we won't get to see him. I guess he wasn't by going to be 1st choice starter. Let's face it, if he turns out to be any good he'll end up at Rovers soon enough anyway.

Turned shams down at least once already. But then Regba and Leahy also stiffed them so you should be used to it 😁

As would have been reported before, but mentioned in local press this week, Leahy seems a done deal for Dundalk, with just the compensation fee due to Bohs to agree.

Perth also saying Elbazoudie is a possible, but that won’t be as straight forward, as he will have a lot of other options (I would say prob Rovers is the other at home) but also abroad, I he’s good enough to play at a higher level than here.

Even if Leahy does sign, I’d say Dundalk will be looking for two more, one possibly being another striker.

Dylan Hand has played at right back, centre back and defensive midfield during his time at Dundalk. Although he looks a very decent and versatile player, it's really hard to see him break into the first team in the short term with 4 quality centre backs in the Dundalk squad and Greg Sloggett now competing with Chris Shields and Jordan Flores for the defensive midfield slot.

He is still only 20 years and he could well come good in the season ahead with more first team opportunities
