I am only realising now that the cup final is on Sunday. Has there ever been less build up to a cup final? This one should have a huge crowd and a big promotional campaign backing it but I haven't seena single poster or advert for it anywhere.

It's all about Zenit and the Europa League in Dundalk. Ticket sales are going well though, very few tickets left in Oriel Park. I suspect the buzz is bigger in Cork as this is a do or die game for them.

2 lads in work where looking up FAI site for date of final based on Dundalk players getting a call up to the Ireland Squad. Neither would be the type to go to a LOI game but curious now based on Dundalk's exploits. It is really a shame the FAI are not marketing it more based on how well but Dundalk and Cork have done this season. Neither knew it was Sunday till I told them and once I said it was €10 they definitely planned on going.

I kinda wish we didn't have a poster campaign down here for it, I'm caught with a funny looking face right in the middle of it. Bit cringe about it lol

I see Ticketmaster are up to there old tricks again. Only tickets available are the premium tickets at 30€ a pop at the moment? I know tomorrow the 10€ tickets will be online again.

Why the hell are they only releasing block by block? It makes no sense?

Security I guess. The more blocks they leave closed the cheaper it is to staff.

I had a rant about this on twitter before and was told that ticket master do not dictate anything like block by block sales- they do whatever the event organiser asks. I just assumed it was their fault as they are a deeply evil company.

Has to be the FAI. I never see this when buying tickets for other games at Aviva or venues.

Doesn't make any sense to have unrestricted seating and selling block by block.

Does anybody know if the Cup Final will be shown on RTE International on Sunday? I'd really appreciate it if anybody could let me know.

Any estimates on ticket sales yet?
Also anyone hear who's reffing the match?

Speaking of refs and off topic for a minute i hear that Alan Kelly has been named as the MLS referee of the year.

Don't know if I agree with that. The fai have their contacts in the media and a TV contract with rte with little or no advertisements for it apart from the CL game on Wednesday.

Every weekend there are alway major sporting events. There has been little or build up in media with their obsession with Ireland v the all blacks in the rugger or a gaa all star awards last night and the dublin county championship today.

This game should be an easy sell but ffs the fai need to put something into it. Cork and dundalk can only do so much to mobilise their areas for the game but it's the national level that fails

I'm sure all LoI supporters nationally are aware of the final.

It's not up to the media to promote it though. It's the FAI's blue riband event. They are responsible for marketing and promoting the game. What's the point in making the game affordable but then not bothering to tell anyone.

The great Irish sporting public only turn up in numbers for events if there is hype.

There is no hype surrounding this cup final.

There is no hype surrounding this cup final. The hurling final this year didn't seem to have too much hype beforehand. The majority of the crowd are going to come the teams contesting the final.

Besides neutral loi supporters it is also an occasion for non loI supporter to go to a match with the 3 best teams in the country and see the product that we have on offer.

Since the fai have took over the running of the league I am at a loss to count of the many missed opportunities that have occurred. Clubs can only do so much but there does come a time when the organising body need to step up and offer support guidance and promotion of their competitions

At a time when non LOI heads are showing as much interest as they ever have in the league off the back of Dundalks success of course it should have been massively pushed by the FAI they did a hell of a lot more advertising for friendlies against Oman ffs. Great chance to possibly get a huge crowd with a lot of people that would never have thought of going before in and be in with a chance of getting them back but as usual its been missed.

Of all the suggestions in the Conroy report i cant believe they went with the triple threat cup final.

That's a really naive and simplistic view.

Just on the train up now. Really looking forward to this one, think it will a better game than last year. Seems to be more of a buzz down here this year. We really need to get our hands on some silverware to have something to show for the progression of the last few years. Hopefully the result goes our way this year. I don't think I could handle losing out to dundalk again

Sure you already have the Presidents Cup. And don't say it doesn't count because it's been mentioned all season long by Cork players and management when it comes to talking of how many times you have beaten Dundalk!

Performance aside, that game was irrelevant to me. The only significance of that game was that we beat ye for the first time in years. Couldn't give a toss about the presidents cup to be honest

The 2010 cup final was hyped up a lot by the FAI. First final back in new Lansdowne etc. 36k turned up. They've done jack all for any final since.

Looks around 20,000 about 5,000 down on previous year. Top east stand last year had a good crowd of Dundalk in it compared to nearly empty today.

Absolute dog$hit game.

Poor crowd

26,400 attendance figure given. Poor enough really when you consider it's the two best sides in the country. But with no advertising done, and ticketmaster acting the bol!ocks again, didn't expect much more than 25,000.

ger121
06/11/2016, 4:25 PM
26400 up on last year, so on that criteria alone a success of sorts. However, I was hoping for closer to 30,000 due to the higher than usual profile and media coverage of the League, but given the Failures usual lack of promoting the final, maybe the actual attendance is the best we could have hoped for under the circumstances.

Got entertaining in the last ten or so minutes when the teams were sort of frantically trying to avoid extra time. Other than that, sort of dull. ET could be a snore with how exhausted both teams look.

Thought the better team lost overalll. Cork had a good spell for the first part of the second half, but Dundalk came back into it and dominated the last 20 minutes and extra time too. Scrappy unlucky goal too. Hard luck on Dundalk.
