The semis were played around this time last year so it's fallen behind this year! Pat's aren't exactly inundated with fixtures.

Leinster Senior Cup Semi-Final
Tuesday 19th Sept 2017
UCD AFC v Dundalk FC, UCD Bowl, ko 19:45

Two footballing sides, with plenty in common, taking each other on in an entertaining, competitive cup tie. The best of talent and young talent in Ireland.

Can't wait to see how UCD's players get on against the players they'll replace at Dundalk in two years.

LSC Semi-Final
Tuesday 19th September 2017
UCD AFC v Dundalk FC, UCD Bowl, ko 19:45

The Lilywhites going for another national cup. There's been football connections between the sides in recent seasons. Both teams want a Final spot and it'll will be an enjoyable, cracking game between two attacking footballing sides.

LSC Semi-Final
Tuesday 19th September 2017
UCD AFC v Dundalk FC, UCD Bowl, ko 19:45

The Lilywhites going for another national cup.

It's patently not national, but provincial.

Out of interest, at what stage, if at all, do Premier sides start taking winning the thing seriously?
Do UCD even care really?

We got to the semis last year as well. The semi was confirmed with three days' notice. Basically we agreed with Bohs that if neither of us needed a replay in the second round of the FAI Cup, we'd play our LSC semi on the Monday instead.

I don't think it's possible to be taking a match too seriously when it's arranged like that.

I'd like to see us play a 19s team tomorrow - maybe with a couple of first-teamers to help them along - as it'd be the nearest thing to a European game they'd get ahead of the home tie with Molde next Wednesday

Kurtis Byrne and Roberto Lopez scored two goals each in last years final when Bohs lift the venerable trophy.

You only have to look at the extraordinary trajectory in their careers since to realise the importance of doing well on the big stage.
UCD and Dundalk players will be desperately looking to get to the final to get the platform to impress Stephen Bradley, Liam Buckley and a host of other scouts

Full-strength Shels beat half-strength Bohs and Pats teams on the way. Rovers took is very seriously indeed but were worn down by the Thomastown powerhouse.

If a full UCD u19s team is fielded tomorrow it'll be the first time you will have seen the UCD u19s play this season, an important football stat. The commentary on potential UCD U19s opponents in prestigious UEFA Youth League should be taken in the context you don't watch the U19s.

Cup games are arranged on a flexible basis and that causes frustration among football fans. The clubs get on with it, the Fans have problems. The Leinster first began in 1892, it has the perseverance and longevity that many community-focused club fans could learn from.

Anti-Modernists Football Fans are engaged when a 3 year old UEFA tournament (UEFA Youth League) comes along. But dislike the 125 year old football tournament.

But every club's got that one fan, I'm sure. Even us, and we've no fans.

1-1 again.

O'Neill with the opener for UCD again, and Clifford with the equaliser for Dundalk again.

Into extra time again.

UCD first team v Dundalk reserves. Which is a bit confusing as going by the past few years, UCD are Dundalk's reserves

Couple of hundred. Typical First Division crowd stuff. Decent game in fairness. Another good performance from Corbet in goals; you'd wonder has he got Dundalk interested at all.

Apparently Shels beat Pats in the other semi last week.

Whatever about its merits, the LSC really is the most appallingly run tournament imaginable. No promotion or schedule or anything; just random games which either happened last week or will happen in a month's time.

It's a somewhat accurate reflection of how football is administered in Ireland. Maybe it's the purest competition we have.

From 1892 it is definitely one for the purists! It is a pity that it isnt a better run competition as it would get non-league teams up against senior (reserve/youths) sides along with the other cups. In the absence o a reserve league it gives game time to players but there is no reason to be so shoddy with setting fixtures. How is the MSC run, is it so lax?

Its a smaller tournament but seems to be managed better. LOI teams enter in pre season, we usually get about up to the semi finals before the league starts and then the final is played in the next couple of months, depending on availability of the finalists. Great tournament, with loads of history (was won by Royal Engineers, who also won the FA Cup), and a nice trophy to boot. I'm always happy when we win it, and was annoyed that we went 9 years without winning it before this season.

Yeah, fixture dates tend to be more clear cut for one thing. Limerick certainly don't take it all that seriously, but never turn their noses up.

NB I'm a little puzzled by Crettyard's appearance in the 2nd Round. Carlow & District FL list a second match Crettyard 8-1 Collinstown in November, but no explanation is given: a replay ordered following a protest, or a two-leg arrangement? (No other match is two legs.) Crettyard's own Twitter and FB pages don't even mention the second game!

Bray 1-3 Pat's. Twas 3-0 after 10 minutes.

I presume this means Bray have at least confirmed all their signings? All their out-of-contract players were listed as trialists in the friendly against us.

Yeah, Wexford beat Cabo 1-0 alright.

Crumlin v Cherry Orchard from the previous round - scheduled for January - not yet played per extratime (http://www.extratime.ie/competition/144/) though. There's two ties missing from the fourth round schedule - Crumlin/Cherry Orchard would be one team. Dundalk and Bohs also missing. Not sure who the fourth team are.
