We started early because of the new manager, hence the 6th.

Ridiculously long off season means ridiculously long pre-season I guess.

Is there any appetite within clubs for a shorter off season? I suppose those giving players contracts for 42 weeks or so prefer it. I always think the weekend in February where there's no 6 nations games after the first two weekends is the ideal weekend to start.

Always thought that myself. The off-season is far too long in the League of Ireland.

The problem is, the Premier Division could comfortably run from February - November with a mid season break, but the First Division would still only work from March - Oct with the lack of teams.

Played on the wing and as a striker in the game on Wednesday night. Greatly impressed those watching and had a lot of people chatting about him. Still only 17 years old too I'm told.

Good first half by Dundalk but they were dead on their feet in the second half. Big gulf in fitness.

Hopefully there were plenty of Irish Barnsley fans in attendance who've decided the LOI is full of overweight no-marks based on a game played the second week of pre-season against full-time athletes.

Did Elding celebrate?

If he didn't celebrate he's clearly not happy and wants away.

Coleraine - Derry match due for tomorrow night is now cancelled. That's our third pre-season match cancellation in the space of week.

How people can contemplate playing winter football in this country is beyond me.

Agree that the weather of recent days make any consideration of returning to winter soccer redundant. I know one of the mns pundits (ex-Shels player in Ollie Byrne team) supports the idea but I think he is wrong.

The weekend mid-February 15/16 is an opportunity for pre-season friendlies against teams from across the water. There's a few teams who've been knocked out over the previous rounds of their domestic cup.

Not sure... Without knowing the ins and outs of it, I assume the only reason that we're not playing Galway is that when our pre-season schedule was being put together they couldn't commit to dates as they were only assembling a squad at that stage.

We're also due to play Harps in Galway on Sunday.

At any rate, with this weather we'll be lucky to get to play the game.

Don't think you could blame not having a shot on target in the second half on the changes tbh, give us some credit for the second half ;) Drogs looked very sharp first half tho, O'Neill and Fabio especially, and our goals weren't bad :) Far too many mistakes from us in the first half, more solid second half. Horrid wind didnt help either teams too!

Wouldn't read much into any preseason games. Drogs p*ssed their way through the early stages of the setanta cup last year, as did we.
