While I agree with you that there is a severe lack of loyalty these days I think its pretty harsh to say it about him and the keeper. The keeper was fairly old I'm sure so he probably thought it was time to retire and hasn't Regan played with Olympic pretty much forever? Can't blame the man for showing a bit of ambition especially when he has given a good few years service to a club.
loyalty dig not aimed at the two lads above regan has played all his soccer with olympic and keeper had a good few years with them also so have no problem with them. i would aim it at the lads who leave after a year or so from club to club

There are different ways of looking at it. If your a fringe player with a junior team why stay at a club that will leave you on the bench all year. When you might be playing for another club?
If a player doesn't enjoy playing for a manager way should he stay at that club. Managers and clubs use and abuse player loyalty. I'd say to any player go where you enjoy playing.

The Clare league Website was hacked, heaven knows why!!!
It might be an idea to change any passwords for the email address anyone has used to register.
God forbid the Clare league would inform us, though they do lurk here.

Ya connolly have 2 teams and bunratty/cratloe have a squad in the 1st division lost loads from last year( ally McMillan, diarmuid Nash, Paul butler, Sean McDonald etc) so they won't be as strong as last year. Not sure have they pulled there Bteam or not
Did anyone watch Avenue v Newmarket last night? How did the match play out? Any new signings for these teams?

Two very bad teams last night Avenue looked to have a most there first eleven besides Russel . Newmarket missing a lot of players from last year probably because the most of them are playing hurling but still the players that played gave a good account of themselves . Looks like when Newmarket get all their players back they will be hard to beat

To say the 2 teams last night were bad is a bit harsh. We played some good football in the first half and should have been out of sight by halftime but ended up 2/2. The 2 goals conceded on our behalf were fairly bad. 2nd half newmarket were the better side and we had to battle for the win.and the crowd seemed to have enjoyed it.just on the other note, russ and john healy missing, con, davy mac and simon cuddihy gone, pa wilson on the bench, gary flynn injured,17yr old dean d'auria at right back(excellent game) and more youth on the bench with paddy o malley and nikki.(ones to watch).we have lost alot but have young players coming through along with scott hennesy.so it looks good. Daithi and horse were back and eoin played.

Ryan Boyle(Lifford) played a hand full of games with mervue in eircom league. David Smyth was also there at the time but didnt play in eircom league. Was in squad for a few matches. Stephen Hickey and Eoin O'Brien are the only others i know to actually play but im sure there is another few around

I just had a look at the fixtures for the upcoming weekend and it looks like the Clare League have not learned from previous seasons. This weekend 4 teams start their Premier Division campaign while several others are playing Munster Junior and League Cup games. Can the league not start on one designated weekend where every team gets to play. The league gets fragmented straight from the off. I know its a tough job to coordinate games but surely the league can start as it means to go on?

what can you do when the league organises a league cup at start of season to accomodate a certain team :ball: missing the gaa lads untill they all back for start of league ? 100% guaranteed a certain team will not be starting there league campaign on sunday and yet newmarket b & bridge utd a are down to play 2 games in 3 days in div 1 league cup tonight and again wednesday.

Lads I don't know what all the fuss is about.. The premier division shield was there before ..it stopped for about 3 years..in fairness it doesn't just accommodate 1 team it accommodates nearly every team in premier league .. As most have Gaa players.. Look at Rhine rovers for example they have turned up for 2 games this year with 8 players. This is due to Gaa .. Like it or not but if you don't have Gaa lads playing soccer you won't have a league.. It's not as if clubs have youth teams coming through( Bar 2-3 clubs ) .. As for the fixtures starting this weekend clubs enter Munster junior and fai cups , the fixture secretary doesnt enter them. So if he has to get games played by a certain date then he has to..would the teams playing in the league this week prefer to have no game so to wait for cup games to be played !! I very much doubt it..
The league cup isnt the problem. Its the fact that matches are not coordinated an therefore teams can get a run of games in the league and the league table becomes fragmented. If teams are in the Munster Junior or FAI then designate a weekend where these games are played. Its about fairness and consistency and in previous years the league tables have been a mess because one team could have 10 games played whereas others maybe only 5/6 games. If other leagues can coordinate their leagues then surely we can too. As I've consistently said, its a lot of work in organising a league and thanks to those who do it. However, surely we can start off the season as we mean to go on. Obviously as games get postponed during the winter there will be discrepancys but surely not now in September!

Fair points .. My reply about fixtures suiting certain teams was in reply to old git who seems to think the burren get an unfair advantage on other teams.. I do agree with you about setting aside certain weekends for fai look at limk this week all fai games are on I think.. This makes sense.. But as you say it's not an easy job doing fixtures .. I agree no team should be more than 2-3 games ahead.

Wont have a league? Are you for real? Clare soccer cannot move forward while it waits around to see what the GAA are doing. If a couple of teams cant field a team due to GAA matches then get rid of them. I never seen a GAA match postponed due to a soccer game. All limerick teams are going into their fai and munster matches this weekend having played 6-8 league matches already, and the clare teams have a couple of shield games played. And people still wonder why the gap between limerick and clare soccer is so wide...

Name me ten Clare teams who don't rely on Gaa players..most teams are lucky to have 16-18 signed Limk is way different as the pool of players is stronger by at least 4 times..
To field their strongest 11 every team relies on the lads playing GAA. Its inevitable that lads will be playing other games and maybe the League Cup helps to ease teams into the League while they're waiting for the GAA lads to come back. However, the availability or non availability of lads should not distort the league and all teams should be starting the league together once the league cup is out of the way.

I honestly believe that one of the most serious problems with Clare soccer is the constant concession to the GAA. No one can deny the league is organised to suit the GAA, and until that changes, the league will continue to decline.
I believe the way forward is a smaller, stronger league, made up of people to whom soccer is their primary interest.

Lads correct me if I'm wrong but every team in premier this year has Gaa players playing for them.Wether it be 1 or 5.no manager will want to start a league without their fittest players.. The realistic problem is numbers.. Every town or village in Clare has been hit by people moving away for work .. Just look at youths league over last 5 years..there is over 25 clubs in Clare soccer but yet the most youths teams we can get is probably 4-5.. Not much can be done about it but the future looks very bleak..

there are sixteen youth teams in the limerick league(two divisions).
the tdsl are(or were) also struggling at this age group, but i am informed that they introduced a scheme that any club entering a youth team would be given 1000 euro as a reward/contribution towards travelling costs etc.
good idea, but only if the league can afford it.
as for the affects of dual players(GAA and soccer),that also affects the limerick teams lads, not so much in the city, which would be competing with rugby rather then GAA,but in the county.

Ya but main difference is the population of limk must be 5 times that of Clare
According to a quick Google search, Limerick isnt that much bigger than Clare population wise. Also, you cant attribute emigration to the demise of Clare youths soccer. The lads emigrating are all in their 20's so it should be Junior Soccer thats being affected most.

bigger concentration of players rather then population, i would suspect.
it would make it easier, travel wise amongst others,to switch clubs, particularly in the city.
also, parish rivalry that exists in the GAA in clare, often overlaps into soccer, preventing players moving.

Guys in fairness every sport is struggling at the moment..the standard of every sport at all levels is gone down hill in the last 3-4 years .. It's a big problem from parents not driving kids to training/games to coaches not giving up their time anymore. To kids preferring to play consoles.. A generation of coaches are finished and not many ex-players are getting involved anymore..just look at all the clubs in Clare soccer struggling .

Most clubs who have struggled with playing numbers only have themselves to blame, it's no coincidence that Newmarket and avenue are dominating Clare soccer, they consistently produce u16/17/youths teams who can act as a conveyor belt to their junior team. Bridge utd have implemented this in the past 3 to 4 years and it's beginning to work slowly. Look at the teams that are struggling for players rinneanna, bridge Celtic, bunratty/cratloe, no youths or schoolboys. Good players don't grow on trees you have to invest time and coaching into them.

could not agree with you more.
some ex-players through work or family commitments cannot give their time...others choose not to.
shame that some, who have gotten so much out of the game, could not be bothered putting something back in.
we are lucky in a sense that we have a lot of former players coaching from under 6 to youth level.
as for the parents, some are very good, most are either inquiring as to what time will i pick him up,or how come he is not getting on.
we even had some parents saying there"little star" would sign, but only if we picked him up and dropped him home(for training and for matches).
sad really that.

Results stands as enough time was played in the game.
Best of luck to Darren, hopefully he'll back playing ball in no time.
most country clubs in the Limerick league have Gaa players in the club and too be honest its ruining soccer in the Limerick div, you could have a team that has its gaa players and it beats a good team, then when the gaa players are missing they are losing by 6 or 7 nil by a team struggling most weeks, not fair on the other teams, also junior soccer in Limerick gives too much respect to the gaa, we have all heard of stories were the gaa are told not to play a soccer game because they have a gaa game coming up.
