Result - Thurs 28th Feb - Div. Cup Semi-Final - Granville 3 v 1 Mungret.

Mungret settled into this game quickly and were rewarded midway through the first half when they took the lead from close range when our defence failed to clear a corner. Their lead didn't last too long as we were on level terms when Cian Byrnes beat the Mungret offside trap to slot the ball under the outcoming Mungret keeper and Ken O'Donoghue was on hand to make sure by tapping the ball home. Into the second half and our fitness levels began to tell as we pushed forward in search of the lead which came midway through the half when Cian Byrnes picked the ball up on the left side and forced his way just inside the Mungret box before firing a powerful left footed drive past the Mungret keeper at his near post. Mungret never gave up and pushed forward in greater numbers in search of an equaliser but we finished the contest off on the break 5 minutes from time when Ken O'Donoghue picked the ball up again on the left side and from just inside the Mungret area he curled a right footed shot into the top left hand corner of the Mungret net. Two excellent goals scored on the night for us at a cold Jackman Park. Our A team can now look forward to a Cup Final in Jackman Park in the coming weeks.

Very fair assesment of the match. We can have no complaints, ye desrved the win. Our fitness let us down and ye're second had been coming from the start of the second half. Our attention now turns to the race for promotion. Good luck in the final!

Moyross 0-1 Sville

As horrible a one niller as you can imagine, we got an early goal and defended very well to keep then out, that said we had the best chances after to add a second and third. Moyross play great football, and there sideline tries their best to intimidate refs and players alike. They also missed a penalty in the first half. Ref was ok but he bottled one decision which was laughable, he gave us an indirect free inside their box for a foul, you couldn't make it up. There sideline was on stictches laughing at the call. Anyway, great result, as I said moyross played us off the park without the end product, will be no doubt a serious threat in this division next season

What kind of a foul? The rule for obstruction is an indirect free in the box.

This wasn't obstruction out player was taking clean out, calling any foul obstruction in the box is a spoof and a cop out. If he'd done it at the other end he would have been lynched

Awh come on lads

Obstruction doesnt exist in the Laws the game anymore

Lots of people dont know the laws includin that ref

I'm afraid it does exist boys, seen at least 2 this season, given correctly as indirect frees that had sidelines screaming for penalties. People really don't know some of the rules, or as you correctly pointed out, the laws. Any refs out there care to weigh in?

And I didn't see the game Booster, so I asked what type of foul it was. If he was taken out then it's clearly a penalty offence.

Those two time you seen it were wrong...

Show me where it says an indirect free kick should be givin for obstruction in the rule book and il eat my hat!!!!

That rule is gone years ago...if you block someone by accident using contact with the body it is a DIRECT free kick....and if its in the box a penatly should be givin!!!

Thats what makes a refs job so hard cos 90% of refs/player/supporters dont even know the laws of the game so your fu%ked if ur right or wrong

05/03/2013, 8:05 AM
If you're arguing about obstruction no longer existing, you're right, it's now called impeding progress. If you were arguing about the offence tho, and I'd imagine few players argue about phrasing on Sunday mornings,it's punishable with an indirect free kick.

I disagree with the refs not been too familiar with the rules.. There's plenty of good refs out there Donal power and Steven Rooney are excellent young refs, Nigel Casey too, a good young ref coming through, as I said in all the ref handled the game Sunday well but for that, we've had him a few times now and he's one of the better ones, like players everyone has errors. He handled the sidelines very well too

Thats a bit harsh. Caherdavin are a tough team to beat. I think this will be a lot closer. Caherdavin could do some damage with their set plays against Granville.

Result Sun 10th March - Granville 2 v 0 Caherconlish.

A goal in each half from Cian Byrnes and Brian O'Doherty settled this game which was played on a very soft pitch at a very cold and wet Glenbrook on Sunday morning. Caherconlish battled for the 90 minutes and even at two down they could have drawn level but our keeper Rob Power made two excellent saves to deny them. Well done to Caherconlish who made us work hard to earn the 3 points which continues our push for promotion.

what a crazy game, exciting stuff in terms of what happened, but no defending ,loads of mistakes,no team capable of stringing few pass,s together,at least 7 or 8 goals from corners and frees barely a standout player, except maybe meehan for caherdavin and byrnes for granvile[he scored a cracker],the sub? for caherdavin who scored 2 goals made a difference.tbf caherdavin showed more hunger for it,this particular granvile outfit,on tonights display would be cannonfodder for premier teams.

Congradulations to Caherdavin on winning the cup on Friday night. On the game itself there is so much to report given the 10 goals scored and then the pens which followed extra time so I won't go into the detail except to say that from a Granville perspective we were disappointed to loose it. Having said that if we were in Caherdavin's position we would have taken it so again congrats to them. On the season so far I think anyone from Granville at the beginning of the season would take where we are right now i.e. top of the league and runners up in the cup. Sea Bird, in relation to your comment "need a lot of players to stay in the premier league next season".....how can you even say that when we haven't been promoted ? also, even if we do get there how often does a team begin a Premier league season with the same panel they finish a Div 1a season with ? my point is our panel could be stronger or weaker than it currently is, who knows what will happen in the close season. Why don't you give a little praise to the teams in Div 1a that are working hard to gain promotion or avoid relegation ? Next up in the league for us is Caherdavin away next Sunday and we will be ready and up for it. Should be a good one considering the events of last Friday night. This is what Junior football is all about.

Very well said Gerrard1. I think in terms of the game itself, Granville started way better than us and we looked very nervous and we went 3-1 down after 20 minutes. It was only then did we start to play the way we can, looking very dangerous when we were going forward. I must say I really feared for us when we went 3-1 down. But we really showed some great determination to score that goal before half time to make it 3-2. After the break we were definitely the better team and it was Granville's turn to get nervous. The amount of mistakes from both teams can only be attributed to the fact that anything can happen in the cup!!! Be very surprised if there'll be 10 goals on Sunday in the league :)

Result - Sun 24/03/2013 - Caherdavin 0 - 1 Granville

We secured promotion on Sunday morning with a hard fought 1 nil win over Caherdavin at the Greenhills. The pace of the game was hectic for the first half hour and we scored the only goal of the game when a free kick from Cian Byrnes was spilled by the home keeper and Greg Barrett followed up to score close in. Both teams made changes to their line ups from the Cup final. We had some great chances to increase our lead with 2 notable one on ones with the Caherdavin keeper and we also hit the crossbar 3 times (one of which was not really an opportunity created by us as the ball bounced right in front of the home keeper and he did well to push the ball onto the crossbar and over). Caherdavin were a threat mainly from set pieces and they had a one on one of their own but our keeper Rob Power made an excellent save. Great credit is due to our panel of players for responding in the way they did for this game given the cup final defeat a couple of weeks ago. The full panel on the day was....Rob Power, John Togher, Jeff Ryan, Ollie Kenny, John Cahill, Brian O'Doherty, Liam Quinn, Greg Barrett, Stephen Cahill, Ken O'Donoghue, Cian Byrnes, Mark McDonnell, Neil McGourty and Niall Doran.

An early goal gave us a vital win. Caherdavin battered us in the second half and must be said were unlucky but great to see our lads respond like this after our cup loss to them. Caherdavin missed a pen in what turned out to be the last kick of the game In the 7 th min of injury time.

I think the current summerville and granville teams will struggle up there as well. Both will need to strengthen. However Im sure every team that goes for promotion understand this already and under no illusions that they need strengthening to compete in the premier.

Who is to say if Caherdavin got promoted they wouldnt get 5 or 6 new players in that could keep them up?

This goes on every year and drives me mad. Whoever finishes second in the league will have deserved to get out of 1A and earned the chance to prove whether they're good enough for the premier or not.

I was part of the Dromore team that went up a few years ago and the abuse we took on this was unreal. We'd be the worst team to ever play in the premier, we wouldn't get a point, we wouldn't score a goal etc. etc. In the end, we took a few real hidings, were very unlucky not to get something from Pike, Fairview and the Boro, had a few good wins and got relegated on the last day of the season with 14 or 15 points. So we weren't good enough for the premier but I was glad I got the chance to play in it for a year with a club that I've played all my junior football with.

The same would go for a load of that Caherdavin team if they went up. A few of them have been great clubmen who could have went elsewhere (Judgie for example) and it'd be great to see them get a chance to play in the premier with the club. If they finish second they'll get the chance and if they don't they won't. And if they finish in the top ten of the premier they'll be good enough for it, if they don't they won't. No point worrying about it in the meantime.

Exactly, a couple of additions can make a big difference to a team going up. Most people watching teams in 1A forget that they are allowed to strenghten during the off season as well. So ya at the moment the teams in 1A that look to be going up might not be strong enough but it will depend on who they gain and also lose in the off season.

Best of luck to both teams going up.

We've still to win 3/4 games to guarantee promotion it's not over by any means, on Caherdavin, they were the better side last night, they play with incredible intensity any time iv played against them anyway, and as a team fight like fxck for each other.
