That's a travesty of a piece.
Couldn't agree more. How many players names did he spell wrong?
Plus, isn't Walters' mother Irish?

Jonathon Walters, Ciaran Clarke, Mark Wilson, Steven Ward - I make that four. And you're absolutely right, Walters' mother is Irish - not only that, he played for the U-21s in 2003 and picked up a B cap in 2007, which is surprising as he "only found out he was Oirish this time last year" i.e. 2010.

A well deserved deal. Its good to see a club having the good sense to reward a player that has done very well for them.
Its kinda like it should be.

But not so crap yet, he got an assist v Chelsea, I am unsure if he intended this or if it came off the defender but I will give him the benefit of the doubt.

Two wonderful pieces of skill in that goal with Shaqiri's beautifully weighted pass and Arnautovic's improvised finish after brilliantly readjusted his body shape. Screw all that though, the goal wouldn't have been possible without big Jon 'making a nuisance of himself'.

Shame we're missing him for upcoming Bosnia game.
I truly feel Jonny Walters is the Chuck Norris of this Ireland team

Great article about Walters and the vagaries of trying to be a professional footballer. Definitely worth a read, an inspiration and a feel good article all in one!

Right, not really a chant as such but what do people reckon on this for a first draft based on the above, good one for a session if I can manage to memorise the words! Open to suggestions if anyone has any improvements! We need something for the man of the moment!
Big Bad Jon
Every game at the ground you can see him arrive
He stands six foot tall and weighs 12 stone five
He is broad at the shoulder and broad at the hip
And everybody knows ya don't give no lip to Big Jon.
(Big Bad Jon)
Nobody seemed to know where Jon called home
Drifting onto the wing or up front on his own
Does his talking on the pitch, kinda quiet and shy
But put the ball at his feet and then watch him fly,
Big Jon. (Big Bad Jon)
Somebody said he came from down by the Mersey
But he only ever wanted the Irish Jersey
From a Dublin family he was set
To stick the ball in the Georgian net
Big Jon. (Big Bad Jon) )
Then came the day when the Germans were in town
And we needed a win or we were going down
Well Big Jon got the ball and he stuck out his ass
And made sure that the Germans couldn't get past Big Jon (Big Bad Jon)
So we got to the play off at Lansdowne Road
Worried about the Bosnians if truth be told
We needed a hero to come from the team
To lead us to our Euro Championship dream
Big Jon (Big Bad Jon)
The scene was set with a first half pen
And who stepped up but this giant among men
We held our breath as he and Begovic met
And he buried the ball low and hard to the left
Big Jon (Big Bad Jon)
Well we needed a second to settle the nerves
So Brady sent a free in full of dip and of swerve
He arrived at the far post, met it on the volley
And sent us supporters right off of our trolley
Big Jon. (Big Bad Jon)
So he's sent us to France, in the summer we're bound
You'll hear us chant his name for miles around
He's one of our own and no one can fault us
For giving it loads for Big Jonny Walters!
Big Jon. (Big Bad Jon)

Well the Times might pick Walters as player of the year but he is not even listed in the betting which goes out
to players on odds of 250-1 so there is zero chance of that.
I'd say the article is just subscription bait.

Favourite line is this: "But tactially? I know the game pretty well. Fitness-wise? There won't be many who beat me. And Hunger? I've always had that."
Sums him up.

Yeah, great line, just before that (I think) he mentions looking around and seeing players who are technically better than him but also that this was the case as far back as the Blackburn youth team so it never bothered him. Good read.

It reads like a fan's appraisal, so hyperbole is permitted.

He and Whelan both played well. Walters nearly won it at the end, Ramsey clearing his header off the line.

Think Whelan nearly won it too, had a good shot blocked, would have put me in the money, lol, a draw was a likely result I suppose but not great odds.
