Realise he has limitations and is no spring chicken - but 1.5 mm is a bit of a derogatory offer for a seasoned premiership and INTL player who can play in a few positions and has been a very good servant to both club and country

On 18 August 2010 Walters joined Premier League (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League) side Stoke City (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stoke_City_F.C.) for an initial £2.75 million fee on a four-year contract
Well going by that it seems fair enough. He would have been 26 then he is 31 now.
However both figure seem low, however I guess it depends how near the end of your contract you are.
Now sure what contract he is on, the initial one must have been extended.
Stoke striker Jon Walters has agreed to a one-year extension on his contract, keeping him at the Britannia Stadium until 2015.
So going by that his contract ran out 3 days ago :)
Bad move by Norwich rejecting it!! £1.5 million is better than £0.

He was born the same day as Joe Denilson, whom Bonnie Shells is younger than.

If Bonnie is half Joe's age how much older will Joe be than Bonnie in 10 years time?

walters not in the squad for stoke's game at norwich. he had been ill in the build up but also subject to a transfer bid... from norwich.

it would be a move up moving to Norwich 2 point up
but it would be a sideways more as the are nearly on the same latitude.
I think Stoke is further north.
It would like going to a Dantes Fires sales conference if you are familiar with Alan Partridge.

Got to love Walters here:
In my eyes if they valued me it would be there and it’s not there so … talk’s cheap when it comes to things like these and I’ll leave it for the men behind the scenes to sort out.Of course I’d be disappointed if I had to leave the club. We’ve improved every year and I can give you every stat for those years and I’m probably in the top two for everything.

With Shakira taking his place in the Stoke City lineup, this is the only logical solution. Can Jon do it on a cold Tuesday night in Milan?
(as far as I can tell, this is a windup)

The Guardian's deadline day newsfeed is carrying that Walters has been subject to a bid from Leicester.
Out of WBA, Leicester and Norwich it's difficult to pick the best side he could move to.
I think Stoke are missing a trick by selling him though. Are they really that much attackingly sophisticated that they can unlock all PL defences with the talented yet inconsistent trio of Shaqiri, Affelay and Arnautovic? Diouf seems to score in spurts too. I'm all for stylish football but I think Stoke are getting a bit carried away with themselves if they're willing to sell someone as constantly effective and hard-working as Walters.

He's staying at Stoke by the look of things. They don't want to sell him. It's all over a contract dispute, he's been offered a one year extension, but he wants longer than that, wages aren't a problem.
All from Sky Sports.

Aye, but he's been a model professional for them and always manages over 30 PL games a season. His fitness is still immense. I think if they wanted so badly to keep him then they'd reward him and meet his demands (which don't exactly constitute astronomical and unreasonable wages or owt).

Yeah - 10 mins till window closes , Sky have confirmed he is staying at Stoke - they have given him the option of signing that extension or he can allow his current contract to run down
Eitherway he is staying at stoke

One way or another, it's yet another occasion where Walters hasn't turned up on time for international duty.

Does he owe us something? These guys today are doing us a favour by turning up and playing for their country. None of them need the money and I'd imagine playing a match away against the likes of Gibraltar isn't high on their bucket list. International football has become a joke due to matches like the one we are playing tonight. What is the point of it at all? TV revenue and 80k punters turning up to watch crap countries like this play the big teams, that's all. $$$

I don't know, I like it, it retains a romance, gives the little fish a chance of a big catch now and again, I mean as fine a 'product' as the CL has become, I still long for the days Limerick could draw Real Madrid or AC Milan players could be pictured picking their steps through mud in Athlone. At least the international game still retains this. And it probably means Ireland will win too, and lets face it, we aren't exactly taking out the superpowers of the world game, or those on the rungs below that even, presently.

Leicester came back to draw 2-2, they are quite the come back team they came back
from 0-2 down to beat Villa 3-2 last week.
Interesting bit of trivia
Jonathan Walters (35) is now two clear of Peter Crouch (33) as Stoke City's all-time leading Premier League scorer.
I must say that was a bit of a surprise to me, I don't recall Walters scoring many goals of Stoke, and he has not played that many
more game than Crouch about 178 v 135.
Also I note Walters is 35, he is getting on a bit now isn't he?

Walters is so massively underated for the job he does at stoke
As for his age .....he isn't 35....Ironically he turns 33......tomorrow (Sept 20th)

Ah that would explain it, seems I got his age mixed up with the goals scored.
That would also explain why there seemed to be so many 1 and 2 year olds in the Irish squad. :redface-new:

Does the business again for Stoke today by opening their scoring with a tap-in. Looks determined to make that next contract a good one, be it at Stoke or elsewhere.

Not the best article ever written but the sentiment is clear.
Having become a PL and Irish international footballer at the age of 27, in 5 short years he has become a crucial warrior for us. Interesting to note that he has 7 goals in 36 internationals which is fairly close to his goal per game ratio in the PL also.
He's spoken of the pride playing for Ireland gives him due to his late mother being from Mayo. Without trying to over-emotionalize or over-personalize it, you can see his willingness to battle in the Irish jersey in her memory every time he steps out on to the field.
Also, has anyone seen the pictures of Shane Long after scoring the goal where his initial celebration is to point to the sky and look upwards (can't find the image now)? Presumably that's a tribute to his own late father. Another man who hasn't had it easy when you consider his father's passing and that his mother moved to England with him when Reading signed him from Cork City to help him make the adjustment.

What we got instead, however, was Jonathon Walters, a lumbering journeyman that only found out he was Oirish this time last year.
