Great night of results there.

How do we see the Monaghan vs Shels game going, lads?

Ever wish you'd kept your big trap shut? Like most losing fans not at all happy with the ref, but shocking defence, go on like that and we'll be ;ooking nervously over our shoulders ...

Ye were awarded 2 penalties and your not happy with ref?

I really wish I went to this game, 5 goals, 3 penalties, 1 red card and a big Monaghan crowd making noise, would have been a good one.

A decent game and the biggest roar in the Brandywell for ages when Farren scored a brilliant equalizer and then the ref gave the 3rd pen of the game.

Good crowd as well and the Mons brought a good 50 fans in section A plus more in other parts of the ground,Magicme was seen to instigate a lot of the singing as well having obviously recovered from her Aviva experience ;)

We have Cork next week which is a must win game but fter the away games to Waterford and Limerick we have our easiest set of fixtures to hopefully seal D1.

Even if Limerick and Waterford where to beat Derry i do still fancy Derry to win it. Limerick, Waterford and Mons all still to play each other after those games so i can see Derry hanging in there.

Waterford finished??

18 points from their first six games, 20 points from the next sixteen!!

Fairplay to Shels aswell, coming back from being battered with two good results in a week, they will be well up for Monaghan next week I'd say.

We got out of jail tonight against a tough but pretty mediocre Athlone team. Showed the importance of having a quality striker at this level. Stephen O'Flynn barely got a kick all night and still finished up with two goals.

As far as I'm concerned next week is a chance for Limerick to pick up more ground. We have Mervue away while Derry play the furry co op and Mons go to Tolka. Derry still to win the league handy enough but twill be tight behind them.

Twas a good experience to be at a Limerick game at this stage of the season getting text updates and actually giving a ****e how other teams are doing!!

I think it is very possible Monaghan will beat Derry this weekend, especially with Molloy and Harkin rumoured to be out injured from their friendly last night. That will have cut Derry's lead by 5 points (that's a big IF Mons win btw) over the space of 2 weeks, Im sure alarm bells will start then in the muckers camp.
They also have Cork, Limerick and Waterford to follow so I think Kenny will see Monaghan as a huge game for them, win that and I can't see them getting caught, lose and the nerves will set in.

thank you for believing in us Sam!

First pen was a definite sending off, and I can't for the life of me understand why the last pen was given, but that being said it was our defensive weakness and a classic counter-attacking away performance from Monaghan which sealed the result. BTW if Monaghan's number 10 shed a few pounds he would be faster than the greyhounds that grace the Stadium on other nights!

there's only one Philly Hughes

Philly saves the day again!

One Philly Hughes!!

Lims win
Muckers draw a very tough game with Cork.

Thought Monaghan were excellent last night, and fair play to your fans glad yous had a great night, Mons 1st team in a while thats scored 3 at the Brandywell, and well deserved their victory. In a way its good for the league, we have a tough schedule coming up in the next 4 weeks, Cork Home and Limerick, Waterford away and probably next few weeks will determine who wins the league. Only point id raise about last night would be the refs decision not to send Sava off. Think if that happened in the 2nd Half he would have been shown a red card. But a defeat is a defeat and always next week to look forward to.

I can't see Waterford United challenging for promotion after last nights dismal display at home to Shels. Some fans booed the team off and are calling for Stephen Henderson's head. The spirit doesn't look right in the team at all and we've fallen from 1st early in the season to 4th now.

Very, very tight now!!

Fairplay to Alan Matthews, has got Shels firing. Themselves and Cork are both probably fancying themselves now. I don't think they are good enough though.

Derry are just having a wobble they will still see it out. Their run in is fairly simple apart from Mons away on last day but I reckon they will have it wrapped up by then.

I wouldn't fancy us one bit to beat Derry next week and we still have to travel to Mons and Waterford. The RSC in particular has been a graveyard for us for as long as I can remember.

Having said that, our last two games ended up being very tricky but we still got the wins, something we definitely wouldn't have done last season.

What do Waterford fans think?? Stopped the rot to an extent last night but by all accounts still weren't great?? Huge game next week in Cork, if Cork win they'll start sniffing third spot.

Don't be foolish enough to rule out Limerick or Shelbourne or even Cork at this stage. I think a bit of our problem last nite was magical Mick Cooke was away at his son's wedding.(that's our excuse anyway!)

Having seen Limerick, Waterford, and Monaghan recently Limerick definitely looked the strongest. They tore us apart whereas Waterford never really looked a threat against us and Monaghan were more interested in trying to kick us off the park. I still expect Derry to win the division and I think they can take a big step towards doing that with a win next week. I'm delighted with our own improvement over the last 2 weeks. To be only 4 points back on 2nd place after how things have been going this season is a positive. I still dont expect us to get a play-off spot but we could really push forward with our next few fixtures.

It's very very tight. We've been poor for a series and a half yet are still only 2 points off and 9 off Derry. Next week will tell alot. 4 of top 6 playing each other. Proverbial 6 pointer.

Players talking out of class below in Waterford??

Hendo refusing to talk to some players??

Up to four first teamers refusing to train for him??

So the little birdies are saying.

Is it around this time every year that waterford implode

Delighted with our current form, best of the season. A win against waterford would mean a real push, big crowds and a buzz around the city which would be great for us. That said I dont think we're good enough to get the playoff spot, we can hope though! An injury to Cummins would kill us.

Elsewhere, Ive always though Kenny struggles to finish off a season, in the premier anyway, but I still think Derry are too far ahead to be caught. Limerick look the best of the rest but Fridays game could make or break them and Monaghan are going nowhere a while. Itl be fascinating anyway!

I'm pretty happy considering we've won 2 of our last 7 games and are still just 2 points off a playoff spot.

Players and manager getting onto each other doesnt bother me too much. I'd be more worried if they were all going about it as usual considering our terrible run at the moment.

Derry and Mons seem to be under pressure atm, Limerick looking good, Shels now coming into it and Cork depending on Cummins to get them promoted, suspension or injury could rule them out.

If we finish there its basically midtable and its higher than weve finished in past seasons so once we keep the spine of the squad together and the manager (who thought id be saying that) then we can only go up.

While i agree with you about ye being only two points off the pace having only won 2 games isn't bad, you have to feel Waterford should never have got themselves in a situation where they are two points behind in the first place though.

Derry are under pressure at the moment and Friday night will be a big test. If they come through it with anything other than a loss i think they will go on to win the league. If they lose then the pressure is on even more with Waterford the following week.

As it stands i think the league will finish like this....

1 Derry (Champions)
2 Limerick
3 Mons
4 Waterford
5 Shels
6 Cork

Can't call who would win the play off to be honest. Will be incredibly close. A lot closer than the playoffs in recent seasons i think. Shels will definately run the top teams close but i think time and the amount of games left to play may be against them. If they had picked up the recent results earlier in the season i think they would have been even more in the promotion mix up. The same goes for Cork.

 Little bit of both, haha! Beware of the wrath of Longford tho :p

Surely you mean Derry to crack even more ... Mass Hail Mary's are being said as we speak!:sweat:

Don't worry, ye will most likely come away from Jackman park with at least a point which should give ye confidence going to Waterford next week. Monaghan, Waterford, Cork and Derry have all come away from Jackman with something this season. The pitch doesn't suit Limerick at all. In saying that the surface in Jackman Park has improved a lot since the previous games with those teams.

althought we had some good results in Jackman this season i think yous are proberly the strongest team in the hunt at the moment, would def see you in a play off place. not to sure about waterford, but shels are improving week by week but we should have had a result there last week.anyway all to play for,

Can't imagine the FAI permitting us to continue playing in Jackman in the Premier. Not nearly a high enough standard. Plus, no need to give the FAI an excuse to deny Limerick a Premier Licence next term :p

You need to register for Derry City Chat (http://www.derrycitychat.com/forum/index.php)- takes about 2 seconds.

Website used to be updated more frequently that it is at the moment. I wasn't able to find a fixture list on it for this season a few days ago (I'm sure there is one, but the fact I couldn't find it after 10 minutes searching speaks for itself). Fixtures 2009 is handily linked at the bottom though.

Plenty of chat about the Limerick game on DC chat forum.

Our main site has a habit of not updating when we're going through a bad patch lol

As for the league fixtures, they are a sticky on the forum and that seems to be the most popular place although they should be on the main site.

I'm thinking it's a must not lose game but I'm not that confident we'll even get a point.

As with everything surrounding LOI clubs, when you ask people to volunteer there is a conspicuous lack of a rush to assist.

Neither Niall or myself live in Derry anymore, both of us have other jobs. If anyone wants to submit content, we'll more than welcome it. Short piece up now.

Basically most of them think we will be a very difficult prospect and aren't overly confident. A lot of Northern cute whoorism going on in other words. :p

There is one alright who thinks we should never ever get anything from a game again ever because my God we went to the Brandywell missing some players and played for a point/stopped Derry creating even one chance of note.

There's also a curiously charming murdering of "You Look Wonderful Tonight" by someone called Dave for some reason. :D
