Yeah it probably does, I just hope it's in Tallaght personally!

No, it's 3,500 seater stadium with the best facilities in Ireland bar Croke Park and Thomand Park. Idiot...

Seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding Rovers and the stadium on the forum. Strange as it has been the most positive thing to happen in the league this year.

I agree that the new Tallaght ground is the most positive development of the year, and Rovers are to be congratulated on their recent progress.

I was also impressed with the attitude being displayed by Jonathan Roche and his vision for the future. If Rovers continue their "feet on the ground" approach to sustainable progress, and reject the fanatical financial madness models followed by some other clubs in recent years, they are likely to be the dominant force in LOI soon.

In this morning's Hearld AM that Platium One have plans to arrange more Friendlies with La Liga sides.

Could be a nice little for LOI clubs if it comes off.

Seems to be a lot of negativity surrounding Rovers and the stadium on the forum. Strange as it has been the most positive thing to happen in the league this year. I'd be absolutely delighted if Derry or Sligo for example got a new stadium. It raises the profile of the LoI in general.
Regarding the Real Madrid match, it would be completely unfeesable financially to hold it without temporary seating or the East Stand completed.

Dn't you see that its not the stadium people have a problem with, it’s the misguided triumphalism like yours that people have a problem with. And even then you'll find the vast, vast majority of people here and elsewhere have been hugely positive abouit it. Tallaght Stadium is a great development for the league. No question about it. Every club here would love to have some of those facilities. But we can't afford to build them, and the fact you can't afford to build them either should stop you from being snooty about it

However it seems that Rovers fans talk offence at anyone pointing out anything remotely negative about Rovers being in tallaght, all the while pontificating about their inevitable march to world domination. If you had a bit more humbleness about you, you'd find a lot more people warming to you (and its pretty obvious from your posts (and the posts of others) that the negativity annoys you).

As it is some of us are forced to point out that not every club dreams of a one sided rented stadium and fourth place in the league.

Heard Drury is pushing Tallaght for the friendly, but RM's people aren't happy with the stadium or opposition and are trying to organise a representative game or ship a British team over.

My God man would you ever give it a rest. There's clearly a need for an outlet for all this pent up frustration and negativity. Have you considered taking up supporting an LOI team?

Ronaldo May Make Debut In Ireland

Cristiano Ronaldo could make his debut for Real Madrid in Dublin next month once he completes his £80million move to the Spanish club.
The 24-year-old is set to leave Manchester United for the Bernabeu with the deal expected to be concluded by 30 June after he has passed a medical. He is suffering a slight hernia injury but it is not thought to be serious enough to scupper the move.
Madrid will report for training on 10 July before travelling to the Irish capital three days later where they will stay until 22 July.

A friendly has been scheduled although the details are not confirmed with the club's opponents yet to be determined.
It means the Portuguese winger may make his Madrid bow in a country where his former club enjoy a high level of support and Ronaldo can expect to be the centre of attention during his stay.
The La Liga giants will then compete in the Peace Cup in Spain where their opponents include Aston Villa, against whom Ronaldo scored twice in the 3-2 win in April which turned the Premier League title United's way, and Celtic who United beat en-route to last season's Champions League final.
Madrid then head to Canada where they will face Toronto FC as well as a trip to Washington for a game against DC United.
Of the move, Ronaldo said: 'I have had my time at Man United. It's time to look forward and £80million is quite a sum of money. This deal is historic,' said Ronaldo, who is currently on holiday in Los Angeles.
'It's flattering when two of the top teams in the world want you to play for them.
'Now I can look forward to Real Madrid and a new stage in my career. I learned of the deal here in LA and heard from my people that United had accepted.'

If it's the first game of their pre-season, it'll probably be a reserve side with 2 or 3 first teamers like Guti or Ramos thrown in. You'd be lucky to see Ronaldo or Kaka sent on for 10 minutes.

Yourself and the ultimate bitter lemon Sheridan clearly have a co-joined direct line to Madrid and know what's really going on. I don't know why anyone else bothers.

True.

Pity they won't do it for the league.

I remember when Longford had their seats put in, that wasn't for the league either. They're still there though.

They were never going to be temporary though, and as Tallaght is busy putting up a permanent second stand anyway, the expensive temporary seats won't stay too long

Shamrock Rovers get an article in the main sports part of the UK Guardian newspaper today coupled with a 2 page photo:

In danger of going out of business a few years ago, Shamrock Rovers are pinching themselves at the prospect of welcoming the £80m man

one of the more stupid ideas i've heard in a while on this place, and lets be honest, this forum has alot of **** spinners. not only would this clean the barstoolers, it would clean the ordinary fan. if you are a true fan of your club, paying €100 shouldn't make you any more special than the next true supporter, because the latter can't pay the €100 to watch a meaningless match, when there are bills and no security of a job.
if they do... its typical irishness... screw the fuuck out of everyone when something good comes along. A good example is the WRC when it was in Sligo - Sligo have now lost being the host town for the weekend as a direct result of the riding they gave to the rally fans.
Shamrock Rovers should charge at most €50 for a ticket. Its only fair to their true fans.

It's a pity you couldn't sell the tickets at say, Eur55 which includes the Real friendly and the next match? Or offer a discount for the next game if you buy a ticket for the friendly. Would be a good way of maybe getting a few more in the door and spreading the benefits of the game even further?

We don't need a new stadium, thanks, the Showgrounds has been the home of Sligo soccer since the 1880's, and we never felt the need to pimp it out and lose it for a couple of trophies

Stoke City do something similar to this. Tickets for big games like Liverpool and the Arse go on sale as part of a package deal with a smaller game like Wigan or Fulham. You're not guaranteed your Man U ticket unless you buy a Fulham one as well. It really helps keep the attendances up for the smaller games.

The only problem could be if Platinum 1 don't go with the idea. I'd say they'd be more concerned with marketing this one game than the long-term future of Shamrock Rovers

By all accounts Rovers won't have a say in how much the tickets are going to be, never mind trying to add on a league game to tht ticket (which I think they did for a frinedly last year, and in fairness is a decent idea)

If there could be some way of making sure Rovers fans could get the first option on tickets that would be brilliant, dont know how this could be done though, buy tickets at home matchs building up to it or perhaps producing past match tickets when buying your one for the friendly?

We did something similar in 1994 - Sheffield Wednesday and Manchester United friendlies and the first three league games of the season all in one ticket.. My first five Dundalk games as it happens. :)

The club intends to play three friendly matches in July - a 'festival of football' for Rovers fans old and new alike. The policy of Shamrock Rovers F.C. is to give first option on ticket sales to members and season ticket holders.

Rovers to play Newcastle on 12th and Madrid on 19/20th. Tickets for Madrid match will be 45e and Rovers season ticket holders are gauranteed one ticket each.

Madrid training sessions will be open to the public at Carton House but expect them to charge in.

Wasn't full from what I know. There were 5,500 seats in there and the crowd was about 3,000 or maybe 3,500 from what I was told. Family that were there told me there was plenty of empty seats. I was in America that summer but i remember people complaining that high ticket prices kept a few people away or gave them the excuse not to go. I was told that the 2004 League Cup final was as big a crowd as we had since the seats were put in and that was around 4,000 or a little over from memory.

Bout 3500 in Flancare that night, the main stand was full but rest of ground was far from it, highest attendance we have had was as Longfordian said for the League cup final in 2004 which was just over 4000

I always thought this would be a good idea to get tickets for home internationals. €50 for a ticket when you produce 3 or 4 ticket stubs from home games at Tallaght, stamped inside the ground to make sure you went. Maybe even a little more of a discount for more games. Means the regular fan gets something out of it, barstoolers get to pay a premium of €100 :)

Obviously some other deal for season ticket holders.

the biggest attendance we ever got was the fai cup match against pats in 2001 when we had a gate of 5,500. this was before the seats were ever put in. How I know this is that I happened to read a match report in the local library today of that game in the longford news that year and both local newspapers gave this figure.
