Ipswich used to have a tall Cork lad in midfield. I wonder where he is now?

Garvan? He's still there, quality player.

We played Wisla Krakow at the end of the 2007 season. Decent crowd at it.

One or two Poles support Pats regularly (at least one of them did before the friendly)
I can remember that game. I wasn't sure if there was a good crowd or not.

We've a few eastern Europeans following us and i think a lot of clubs are the same.

Just thinking with so many of them living here and not getting the chance to see there local team play in the flesh that it would generate bigger crowds and more money in the gate than playing an average Championship side.

By the way, can any Limerick fans comfirm if it's true that friendly with Sunderland in Thomond Park is a tournment? I heard two other teams will take part.

the PA guy at the u17 final in tolka on sunday - who was wearing a shels top - told a reporter in the press box that 'millwall are here in two weeks'
i've not seen anything official

Well they've finished for the season so i'd say he meant 2 months possibly but i've already said they'd be playing Shels earlier in the thread, just don't know the dates.

Shels will be playing Millwall again this year.

the best thing about this game will be the sing song in Betie's local before the game..............Millllllllllllllllllllllllllllll llllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll lllllllllllllll

oh and the amount of designer clobber on view!

On a related note, last nights Shels game was sponsored by Symths of Fairview and Bertie Ahern T.D.

Kildare County are to play 3 friendlies in July.
They have arranged friendlies against Leyton Orient, St Johnstone and on July 26 against Newry Town, all to be played at Station Road Newbridge.

Mods can a sticky be created with details of summer friendlies? I know they're not set in stone yet, but maybe on a team by team basis initially?

Why?

Because the three away sides will be in the middle of pre-season and are on the look out for a few games to get themselves match fit, not that hard to understand.

they looked the real deal in their designer clobber to. In fairness they seemed to be just over for a session and not looking for hassle but i'd imagine if the so called rovers, bohs hardmen had of showed up at the pub like they did against linfield a few years back the millwall lads would have knocked 7 bells out of them.

As far as i know this fixture cost shels a fortune to police so it leaves you wondering why we're playing them again.

By the way, can any Limerick fans comfirm if it's true that friendly with Sunderland in Thomond Park is a tournment? I heard two other teams will take part.

Nothing has been confirmed yet but I have heard that both Middlesborough and Ipswich are being lined up for friendles aswell. Not sure if this is part of a tournament or not. With the cost of renting Thomond Park, i'd say Limerick are trying to make sure the friendly(s) sell well to make any sort of a profit for these games.

These games will be of little, if any, benefit to Kildare, therefore, why?

If they are of ANY benefit, why not? Worst that happens is you build links with other clubs and get some playing time for your team (and considering they're signing plenty of players, its no bad things)

Also, they're fun in general.

Plus, you make a fortune on programme sales.

During the season it looked nailed-on but with the Amsterdam Tournement and new manager things might change. At lot of talk was from rumours and forums about this game. Nothing was confirmed from the club.

A new definition of a "real crowd puller". Anthing over 694 people?
Don't know what crowd it will attract, but I wager Lisburn will take more then the 10 Galway fans who travelled to Oriel a few weeks back!

Dundalk V Lisburn Distillery subject to FAI approval and Mervue V Dundalk cup match not requiring a replay.

Interesting footnote is that Dave Rogers could make an early return to Oriel Park for Lisburn Distillery

Has Dave Rogers signed for Lisburn Distillery? Friendlies wise I hear on the grapevine that Leeds Utd could be coming to the flansiro

Rogers Linked with Lisburn Distillery
Looks like Dave Rogers may be joining Jim Brown at Lisburn Distillery (Lisburn manager Jim Brown was Technical Advisor at Oriel Park earlier this season before his recent appointment at Lisburn Distillery)

Quote:
Also hoping to join Lisburn Distillery is Liverpool-born defender Dave Rogers. Dave is no stranger to football on these shores, having won three League of Ireland titles with Shelbourne. He has also played in the Football League, Scotland and Holland. He hopes to join the Whites’ from Dundalk and when released his clearance is expected to be processed in July once the League of Ireland transfer window opens.

The Dundalk Lisburn friendly is not confirmed according to Dundalkfc.com regardless of what their website says, the FAI have not to this tiem not givin permission for a friendly next Tuesday probably because that is the replay date if we draw with Mervue on Friday night.

With Regards to Leeds coming over this Sumemr they have confirmed on their website that they are ONLY playing Glentoran and Shelbourne this Summer.

Leeds were looking for money up front apparently after being stiffed by an EL club they played last year for their agreed fee. It wasn't Shels obviously, can't remember who it was.

My mate was in Dublin today and he said he saw a "Hannover 96" bus with the crest and the BundesLiga logo on it. Surely they are not playing anyone here? Anyone have any info on that?

It was UCD I think. They called the game off at a few days notice.

Sure it wasn't one of those old party buses called 'The Hangover 96'?:)

Maybe Hannover 96 have a team in the Milk Cup up in Northern Ireland. Not sure when that starts though? Heard nothing about a the senior team palying any matches over here.

Nope, wasn't us. We cancelled a Millwall game, not a Leeds game. Also, we wouldn't be paying clubs to come over! The friendlies we play are proper friendlies.

I knew you cancelled some game. If I remember correctly, Millwall weren't too happy as some of their fans had already planned a trip to Dublin to see the game.

pineapple stu
11/06/2009, 1:56 PM
Yep. But they were playing Shels as well (and Bray?), so the trip wasn't exactly wasted. It was an unfortunate cancellation, but we couldn't afford to host the tie once we started going into specifics.

Also, there's a difference between fans being unhappy and a fee not being paid over to a club.

He said he was 100% sure it was the senior squad, with a fancy Hannover livery on the bus. I can't comment though.

No, definitely wasn't UCD. Did they play anyone except Shels and Bray last season?, because another club was the one mentioned and far be it from me to name them if it wasn't true!.

Galway, Bray and Shels, according to their site (http://www.leedsunited-mad.co.uk/news/loadnews.asp?cid=TMNW&id=389692).

Bingo, Galway was indeed the club mentioned and they do have form for not paying agreed fees e.g the Legends game. Not saying it's a fact but that's what I heard. We were talking to Leeds about playing them at one stage.
