Thats schoolboy level dont go to the floor that easily wait the forward standing still if he shoots there is a keeper there. Dont gave yourself away that cheap bro. I hope he shouldnt do that at internacional level. It was the forward art but Duffy gave himself away

Now he got a revenge. Broja shouldnt touch the ball today again. Duffy is like a skinny Obelix!!

Maupay should play for us better than Alario and he is a fox in the box. How a team can outplay another and still lose. Ditto this Duffy improved after his fiasco in first half and Connolly was very eager
Broja did Duffy dirty for his goal. Poor kick out from Sanchez but unfortunately for Duffy he'll be one talked about the most.

Anyone who knows the game knows Duffy was left exposed on that goal. A truly damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Commit to block the shot, or jockey and let his opponent get a free shot off on goal.
Before that goal I was thinking how great it was that Duffy was wearing the captain’s armband — considering how going into this season, everyone assumed he’d be discarded by Brighton. Real testament to his character.

There is always a goalie dont go to the floor. Second half had a similar chance and he waited he Pretended to tackle and remained stood. Defenders shouldnt go to the floor unless it is in extremis. Ditto this that Broja got a sored ankle. Thats a way to earn a yellow as Liam Brady used to declare

It would / could have been a great block by Duffy if yer man did not do the very clever dummy. I reckon Duffy probably had to gamble that yer man would shoot considering the circumstances.
Good play by the attacker in the situation.

Guardiola must be an amazing manager to win so frequently without any exceptional players!
Still, as biased a measure as it may be, it's nice to see an Irish player in one of these again.

Why has Duffy been dropped? He had a great start to the season and now can't seem to find his way back into the starting line-up.
Duffy's only back from an ankle injury.

He had a bit of a disagreement with his goalkeeper yesterday, one that resulted in "damage made to a wall."

It's true. How often do you see a Mexican get on the end of a free kick?

Fun fact - less than half the people looking to cross the "wall" are actually Mexican.

They’re bad hombres.
No timeline on how long he'll be out so should be back before the end of the season but a good chance he won't have played any games between now and the Nations League.

Reports suggesting that Duffy will sign for Fulham on a permanent deal. Part of the reason is Fulham's desire to bring Cedric in on loan from Arsenal.

Why though, hes not getting a kick there. I thought there would be more of a chance they would cancel the loan, but maybe the rules dont allow for that?
No rules would allow for it but they'd then only have three senior CBs and one of them is linked with a move away.
Will be a similar situation as Randolph, Maguire, and Kevin Long. Fulham will sign him on a short term contract till the summer to get around the loan rule.

Isn’t that a premier league rule? Can’t championship clubs have more loans?
Yeah PL clubs can only have two from other English clubs at the one time but a max of four from English clubs in a season. Loans from abroad there's no limit I believe.
Clubs in the EFL can have as many as they want but only five are allowed be named in match day squads. Burnley will have eight if Obafemi is a loan signing.
Made his loan permanent till the summer when he'll be a free agent. Has made a grand total of four league appearances coming on in the 90th minute in each one and one EFL cup game against Crawley back in August.

Will be heading for the Championship next season I'd say. He doesn't have the all round game to be a Premier League centre back but I'd still expect him to be successful at Championship level.
Can see another PL team picking him up as back up cover and that might even be Fulham. Don't really agree with him not having the all round game to be a PL CB cause I doubt for one second Potter would have given him games in one of the top ball playing sides in the PL if he didn't have what's needed for the PL.

Potter moved him on and Fulham don't seem willing to trust him in a PL game either. Maybe there are lower PL teams who could accommodate a Duffy-type player. Everton perhaps?

The financial power of Premier League clubs now means that, if you have any obvious flaws in your game, teams will just pass on you and spend £20m on someone else without a second thought. Looking at the spending stats for Premier League clubs vs the rest of world football in January the disparity is off the charts now. Even La Liga and Serie A are just nowhere near to competing.
There's almost nobody left in the league who will want or need to accommodate a 31 year old centre back who is as uncomfortable on the ball as Duffy is. Everton probably the only ones and that's purely down to Dyche - and they might get relegated anyway.

I'd like to see him go play in Italy, Spain or Germany. He's plenty good enough.

Just on this, I believe that in this transfer window, Chelsea spent more than all top flight German, Spanish, French and Italian clubs combined.

18 of the 20 biggest value transfers in January were to English teams. None of the 20 were to Italian, Spanish or German teams. The European Super League is happening by its own accord.

Man City case is getting very interesting now. PL has no natural incentive to prosecute one of its biggest attractions, nor is it an organisation with any great interventionary ethos. Richard Scudamore, ex-CEO of the PL, said on Newsnight after City were first sanctioned by UEFA “it’s hard to say they’ve done anything wrong” - context being they’ve spent money locally but ignoring whether their spending was within established rules - showing just how relaxed the PL was about its financial dominance in Europe.

It may seem uncouth these days but I'd have Duffy on the bench at least. He can be thrown on up front if we're in need of a goal late in games then.

elatedscum made a good case for him starting recently. I think it was along the lines that while he might make mistakes with distribution, we don't make the defensive mistakes that have crept into our game with him in the side.
Diggs246

It seems to be Collins making those mistakes. The old, less high profile lads like Egan, O'Shea and also lenihan. Seem more solid. But it's Collins who u would fancy being a star in 5 years

I watched the match. I appreciate Sunderland are a Championship team but Duffy looked very comfortable and had moments where his positioning neutralized their attacks. Looked comfortable on the ball and hit a couple of nice long passes including one diagonal ball which created a goalscoring opportunity.
Definitely eases the mind a bit if he does end up starting for us, even if France is on a different planet in terms of attacking firepower.

A mistake in midfield is not as bad as a mistake in a centre back position. We've enough cover in defence to experiment with collins

There’s a comment on the Fulham forum that praises Duffy as an “old-school” defender. But that’s the issue – he is too old-school for the modern game. As much as he is brilliant in the air, getting in blocks, putting his body on the line, the game has moved on and you can’t overlook how uncomfortable he is on the ball and how limiting this is for team flexibility.
