Bit worried about Sledge to be honest. If he doesnt get a move theres a high chance he'll only have 3 or 4 games between now and the euros. I know that hasnt botherd Trap in the past but that's when it was Keano who is our most important player
A Duffy Dunne partnership could be absolutely immense

From the forums:
"Duffy - Very impressive. He looks so composed it's unbelievable. He won lots of defensive headers and he was always a threat from set pieces for us and was very unlucky not to get on the scoresheet. He seems to have built up a good understanding with Heitinga too. We really do not need to bring another CB in, put every penny we have into getting a striker please! I loved watching him order Neville about at a Blackburn free-kick too. That muppet needs all the advice he can get. My MOTM."
"Big credit to Duffy who is getting on with his game - I really hope he stays grounded and keeps working hard as for me he is a long term regular in the making - and not in 3 years but straight away."
"Duffy was our best player today and I though Heitinga (http://www.grandoldteam.com/club/squad/11/john-heitinga) did well aswell. Duffy looks like a leader to me, in 5 years time he could be an absolute beast of a player. For me, he has shown the determination to succeed already in the manner he came back from injury."
"He was one cool cat with his back passes and brave interceptions. He outshone Heitinga (http://www.grandoldteam.com/club/squad/11/john-heitinga) to be honest, who had a solid game himself."

Was called into the squad after only making a handful of senior appearances before, so there's no reason why it would be a surprise. I don't see him going to the Euros, barring injury or suspension, he has a lot to do to get ahead of one of Dunne, St Ledger, O'Shea and O'Dea.
I agree. Irish fans seem to be very fixated on the latest "flavour of the week". We've had Seamus Coleman, Anthony Pilkington, and now Shane Duffy. I don't discount any of the aforementioned lads, but they need to be playing at a high-level consistently before we can consider them,

He has played three very good games in the Premier League, coming through a baptism of fire with his head held high. Prior to that he was Scunthorpe's star defender.
I disagree with the notion of Trap considering those who play at a high-level consistently. Didn't he select Whelan when he wasn't playing and hadn't really played at the highest level? Doesn't he select many players who don't play at all and who don't happen to be playing at a high level?

Delighted the lad is doing great. But he really needs experience to be considered. Defenders need more experience than other positions.

Delighted the lad is doing great. But he really needs experience to be considered. Defenders need more experience than other positions. For sure, that's how I'd look at it too, as I said, there is no clamour for him to be included. But Trapattoni's practice blatantly contradicts that notion.
Have you been watching many of his games? Having come back from his injury, he has experienced one game in the Championship, 19 games for Scunthorpe, three for Everton, so far. Which adds to his 3 u19 caps and 6 u21 caps.
Prior to his injury, with only 2 European games under his belt, Trapattoni included him in a training camp squad. Experience needed to be considered? Maybe not.
Edit: While I concur that experience is desirable, I am also a proponent of the view that if a player is good enough, they should have a chance.

Looks to be a bright prospect, just the sort of player we need, we don't have great depth in that position, and he looks quality, based on the 2 minutes I saw.

I expect this lad to be the foundation stone of the Irish defence in years to come, I'd would prefer to see him introduced to senior squad after the Euros.

Included in the Star's team of the weekend.

If he is good enough for the Star he is good enough for Ireland!!!
Don't want to build him up to much but he seems to know what he is doing out on the pitch and how to do it.
No doubt he will get a couple of own goals in his next match now that I have said that!!

Doubt he will be included immediately, but with Coleman, Duffy and Clark the defence looks well set for the rest of the decade

Comments from Moyes ahead of tomorrow's game.
"So far Shane has done really well in the games and it is terrific for the boy. He has got something and he has a chance. He will certainly make a really good career in the game and we hope it is at Everton.
“The level is going to step up shortly and the more you play, the more people expect from you. In your first couple of games as a youngster people do not expect too much.
“When you stay in the team then the supporters’ and the manager’s eye gets drawn to you. We want him to keep doing things simple and not over-complicate things, and if he keeps playing as well as he has done in the last two games then we will all be happy.
“The decision for me is that I will have Tony Hibbert fit and available, so do I put him in because of his experience, albeit not being a centre half? So we have got that in our mind as well because the games now are really important games.
“We have got to win in the cup to get through and we have games coming up that are against really top teams. We have to decide if Shane is the right one for the job.”

Might not be as highly rated as we think if he's considering Tony Hibbert ahead of him.. Moyes is in for another young central defender, which would leave them with Distin, Heitinga, Jagielka, Duffy, and possibly this new lad.

He'll probably start tonight. :)
I suspect Moyes is trying to throw Jol off by keeping him uncertain as to who will be at the back, or perhaps it's an attempt to keep his own players motivated. I was struck by Moyes' comments that he hopes Shane forges his long career at Everton. We could read into that several ways, but I get the impression that there may be renewed interest in Duffy.
Everton have been linked with that Manolas lad for a while now. They've been linked with a host of defenders over the years. A few years back, Everton signed Shkodran Mustafi, the German under 19 captain, from Hamburg. He is held in very high regard in Germany, but he could not leapfrog Shane in the pecking order, despite Shane missing a year because of his injury, and has signed for Sampdoria.

Gibson has more presence in the Everton midfield, Kelly struggled to keep the ball in play at times, Duff looked sharp , did he run out of steam in the 2nd half?
and Duffy - he's a big lad.

Everton fan on Talksp*rt earlier at the Fulham match extolling praises of Shane earlier, mentioned his pace, that he can read the game well and their best header of a ball since, er, Duncan Ferguson!

According to BBC journalist Mike Hughes on the Tweet maching:
"Another sterling performance from Everton's Shane Duffy earned him the Man of the Match award from BBC Radio Merseyside's Ronnie Goodlass.

If he keeps this up, he might just get a call-up from Trap this summer :)

It will be interesting to see if Moyes picks Jagielka & Distin when they're back fit again or continues with Duffy.
i think he will JGK as he has proved that he likes to ease young players in to the first team as regulars over a period of time (as he did with Coleman for example). It wont be for lack of form obviously but i can see it for other reasons.

Got 2 minutes today at the end of the game against Chelsea as Everton ran out 2-0 winners. In addition to Trapattoni's encouraging words yesterday, it seems he's on the right path.

If Dunne is injured Duffy or Clark are obvious options as call ups, possibly Wilson.

Looks like Dunne will be out for a while, Clark also out for a few weeks with knee ligament damage.
As regards Wilson Trap is reported as saying " I have no problem with Marc. Before - when it was reported that i criticised him - there was a miscommunication. Marc wasn't the player in question, It was a different player.
"i'd have no problem selecting him again. He offers us cover in various positions and has strength on the ball"
