Clinton Morrison's days as an Irish internation player are long since over. Gone too are the days of throwing Gary Doherty up front an pumping the long ball up to him.

Stephen Elliott looked to be the part, but injuries got in his way. Since then, the emergence of Kevin Doyle and Shane Long have removed him from international consideration.

We aren't so rich with strikers that we can dismiss Morrison so readily. We only have two who have proven anything to be ahead of him and I'd say he's worth sticking on the bench.

Gary Doherty on the other hand......

All that can be said is thank God you're not going to be our next manager. Clinton Morrison has achieved more in the last two months that Shane Long has achieved in his career. As much as Long may have potential, few could say he has truly 'emerged'. Clint has something like 6 goals in his last 5 games and has rarely failed to perform for Ireland. I would like to see, and believe, that he will return to the squad when the new manager comes in if he can maintain his current performances.

I don't begrudge that, but I'm just suggesting that the question was probably loaded & specifically about Venables getting the job (rather than "who would you want as the new manager?"); and of course no professional is going to be publicly disparaging about a peer.

    .
i'd actually be happy to see Clint back in the reckoning...think Long should be sent back to the u21's and Clinton would deffo be an option to come off the bench for Doyle. he's always worked well with Robbie imho....
