He won the Man of the Match award despite only playing 76 mins and picked up a nice bottle of champers for his efforts. Lovely lad, still only 20 and yet to be capped at any level for his country. (Are you watching Don Givens, Stan, Devo?)
His younger brother Keith is captain of United's youth side who take on Watford in the FA Youth Cup next Tuesday at Bramall Lane.

"It's time for the FAI to grow up." John O'Donoghue, Minister for Sport, RTE , Sunday 7 Nov 2004
The Alan O'Brien inclusion in the Ireland setup by Staunton was one of the most worrying things (on a list of many) that he's done since he took over. O'Brien was a nothing player, loaned out to Carlisle where he didn't particularly impress with only a couple of substitue appearances for Newcastle when they had an injury list as long as Peter Crouch. To include him in squads over the likes of Tabb, Garvan, McCann (also plays on the left) or Quinn (who was on loan and impressing at Rotherham last season, a higher level than Carlisle) shows he doesn't really have a clue and if he's building for 2010 as he says he should really be more familiar with our talented young players and those who aren't likely to make it (eg Alan O' Brien).
The only reason Alan O'Brien was capped was because Pat Devlin is his agent/advisor and is also involved in the Irish set-up. Its an abuse of his position, it could only happen in Ireland. Newcastle played an almost complete reserve team in the EUFA cup last week, and O'Brien didn't even make the bench. Perhaps he is injured but I fully expect to see him playing for Bray Wanders in the near future.

Derek Geary seems to be progressing and doing really well at Sheffield United. As a team, they're improving and he's firmly nailed down that left back slot. He seems like a solid player player who gives 110% and likes to go forward as well. Surely he should come in to the picture given thats where we're most exposed? I reckon he'd be a better alternative than Harte given form and circumstance although I do acknowledge that Geary(unless I'm mistaken) doesn't possess that 'deadly' set piece ability that good ol' Hartey has...
Ah the black hole that is the Irish left back position. I don't rate Geary TBH but I take your point that we're not exactly blessed with an assortment of riches in that department. My main worry is that with all the potential talent on the horizon in strikers, central midfielders, wingers, right backs and goalies we've nothing coming through in central defence (unless St Ledger turns out to be a tactical masterstroke on Stan's part) that looks top class and absolutely nothing at all at left back..
Just saw his goal on Sky Sports news for Blackpool v Cheltenham last night - right foot and all
BBC "Hoolahan secured victory in the 80th minute when he dodged and weaved in the box before unleashing a powerful drive. "
heard it was a cracker alright, anyone got a link?

Forget about the performance or entertainment. It's only the result that matters.
Poor old Conrad Logan Didn't stand a chance with any of those...
You can't spell failure without FAI
at least he has some backup career options if his football career is ruined...

Stephen Ireland came on at half time for Manchester City.
He's just after assisting Trabelsi. Beat 3 men down the right wing and cut it back to Hatem, who with a bit of work to do, scored off the crossbar.
Daryl Murphy just scored again, Luton thinks it was a handball
his partner upfront, David Connolly, just scored as well
Elliott is playing on the right, Connolly just laid the ball off to Liam Miller, but Dean Kiely made a great save I guess
