It's this place or nothing.
I'd say FIFA will approve even if the stadium is at the lowest end.
When both FA's are discussing tickets and in Germany there is at least a minimum standard of organisation.
I wonder how many tickets the FAI will get.

The Georgian FA rep said on the radio, 10k seats.
Less than 9k according to these figures.

You think you have troubles? Try living in Georgia right about now! Not that I don't think this should have been sorted a lot earlier with more definitive action, but I think complaining about it is showing a lack of perspective :)

feck, i looked that up and it was like 200 euro each way....how did you get that?
i am looking at doing so as are a few mates, including galah. But the difference between the flights i was looking at is only £10 i.e. £89 to £99 and at this stage i dont want to throw £100 down the drain, given then credit crunch and all that, purse strings need to be tightened :D

It's still saying TBA on the main FIFA fixture list:
http://www.fifa.com/worldfootball/results/male.html# (then click to page 2)
This list is usually very accurate and even on neutral friendlys (e.g. when Algeria played a friendly against Mali it had Paris as the venue months before the actual game was announced, same with Mexico v Ghana (at Fulham), Australia v South Africa (at QPR), Sweden v Brazil (at Arsenal).
I really would hold off at the moment. I would say Germany is a likely venue, but you never know, postponement could still be an option, or Germany behind closed doors could be an option (for security / saftey / planning issues). If you book flights now you are taking a mammoth risk.

Strange they have now nominated 2 venues that will be touch and go for the criteria for International football.
Even if FIFA eventually postpone the game.
OK guys Wuppertal is 106 kms from Frankfurt Northern Ireland U21s play Germany there on Friday night Sept 5th. Lets all confuse the hell out of the Germans. :D

That's a nice thing to say, but I understand that there's quite a lot of money at stake for people, and really, a clear decision should have been made earlier.
It's a dilemma for Georgian fans too, by the way, as our Europe-based fans are being mobilised, and they too need to know asap where the game will be taking place.

Anyone any idea how many tickets we would get considering the change in venue. Hard to imagine a lot of Georgians going. Although a 10k stadium could cause problems even if 1000 georgians show up.
Will ticket allocation be announced at same time venue is confirmed? Flights from Dallas have not went up yet. I guess American Airlines are not keeping up with the press releases:)

i think that is completely irrelevant - duggies point was merely emphasiszing the farce that is the ireland gerogia fixture and the even bigger farce that is fifa - they should have this sorted out - its beyond ridiculous
we all have sympathy for the gerogian people, of course we do - but this is a football thread , where matters of irish football are discussed and duggies point is an irish football matter - despite the appalling tragedys in georgia - fifa (who are the football governing body and whose responsibility is football ) should have this sorted out by now
its a joke

WM-qualification Georgia against Ireland in Mainz The WM-Qualifikationsspiel between Georgia and Ireland on Saturday, 6 September (o'clock whistled for the start 18), is delivered in Mainz the break way stadium. The 1st FSV Mainz 05 substitutes as a supervisor at short notice as replacement for the originally selected play place Karlsruhe. The portion is delivered due to the uncertain political situation in Georgia at a neutral place. The Georgian federation wants to complete the portion in Germany and to the German football federation had turned. „We are pleased that we can help out the Georgian federation at short notice. Also for our fans this portion is safe an interesting and unusual football event “, says 05-Präsident Harald Strutz. „We look forward beyond that to the visit of many fans from Ireland, that learn our city to know by this play. “ At present votes with the Georgian federation and the world football federation FIFA run to this WM-Qualifikationsspiel. Information among other things to the map advance booking follows, as soon as they are present. Since are certified excluding seats, the capacity of the break way stadium amounts to this portion only 10,400 places.

Sorry to hear this, it looks like a typical FIFA **** up.
When we played Germany in a friendly some years ago, 17 fans travelled to Ludenschied (small city in the hills above Dortmund and Wuppertal). When the local kids tried to up the atmosphere chanting "Stand up if ye hate Ireland", our lot all joined in :)

Delaney on RTE, is under the false impression that the capacity of Mainz is 22k.

The city is 25 minutes by train from Frankfurt Airport. It is the home of Blue Nun wine, and there is a major wine festival on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. This city is already looking like a good choice by the Georgians. The only concern now is getting tickets.

Check out the Inter City Hotel in Frankfurt for Accomodation. Stayed there 2 years ago on way to Stuttgart. Great location right across from train station and great value at €64 per twin room per night B+B. www.intercityhotel.com
